ADULT SERVICES
Volunteer @ the Placentia Library!
Placentia Library volunteers make meaningful contributions to the library and our community while learning
new skills and having fun. A variety of volunteer positions are available. An active library card, volunteer
orientation and application is required. Applications are available online at www.placentialibrary.org and
should be completed prior to attending the orientation. Volunteers must be at least 12 years old or older.
Volunteer Orientations will be held:

Local History Lecture Series

The Conversation Club is a great opportunity to chat with other English language learners in a relaxed and

Wiggles & Giggles Baskets
Placentia Library would like to help welcome your new baby and begin to foster a love of reading from an
early age for your child! Sign-up your child, ages 12 months and younger, for a free library card, and receive
a welcome basket. Baskets are available while supply lasts.

Read to the Dogs
Placentia Teen Advisory Club is open to all high school students interested in gaining community service
experience, volunteer hours, and leadership skills while planning and supporting great library events. All
applicants must pass an interview. Applications are available at the information desk. Space is limited. This is
a semester (6 month) commitment.
Open to children of all ages! Read to a trained, furry friend from Bright & Beautiful Therapy Dogs, Inc.
Children will also be able to make an animal craft each month too.

Open to all middle school students who enjoy chess or checkers and friendly competition! Come learn

Time for your family to creatively engage in stories, activities, and games at the library! Looking for a fun
family activity? This new family event is designed to engage all members of your family at the library. We
will start with a story and a variety of activities your family can participate in together. Activities will include
arts and crafts, building, games or science fun. Then stay for family interactive board and electronic games.
June 18: Wimpy Fun: cartoon drawing, games, and make your own diary.
July 16: Water Escapades: make your own boat and race for the win!

Adult Summer Reading Program: Read For the Win!

You are invited to participate by reading or listening to books and entering drawings for chances to win
great prizes. Two lucky grand prize winners will each win a $250 Target gift card! Bonus: the first one
hundred registrants will walk away with a Starbucks Card to give you a running start to your summer
reading win.

• Choose reader’s age group.
• Fill in registration form.
Are you up for the challenge? Every Monday from June 20 - August 14, we’ll post a different challenge
on our Facebook page and at the Information Desk. Complete that challenge and log in your response
on your answer sheet. At the conclusion of the 8 week challenge, turn in your answer sheet to the
Information Desk by August 15, and one lucky winner will win a $50 Target gift card! What is a challenge?
Think scavenger hunt encompassing anything in our physical or vir tual library.
Kishin Daiko – Taiko Japanese Drumming Performance
Saturday, July 23, 1:00 - 2:00 p.m., Placentia Civic Center Plaza
Kishin Daiko will entertain, educate and enlighten audiences with the dynamic, powerful and heart stopping
sounds of taiko (Japanese drumming). They are a multi-ethnic, multi-generational taiko group that
exemplifies harmony with diversity in their membership makeup and the music they play. A few lucky adults
will have an opportunity to experience taiko drumming first hand! It’s a unique performance you will not
want to miss!

TEENS & TWEENS
Teens & Tweens Summer Reading Program
Read for the Win! - June 20 - August 20
Join teens all over the country in reading and have an opportunity to win a gift to die for! For each set of 3
books read, receive a raffle ticket to be entered in the grand prize drawing. Participate in all the teen/tween
programs beginning June 20 for the opportunity to earn extra raffle tickets for the grand prize.
PLD Collaboratory (Tweens)
Second Tuesday of the month, 4:00 - 6:00 p.m., Placentia Teen Center*
Open to all middle and high school students who would like to learn and play in “do it yourself”
environments. The PLD Collaboratory will integrate STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math),
an educational movement that engages students in integrated learning as they explore the world around
them, create innovative solutions to problems, and communicate their results.

Read for the Win! - June 20 - August 20
Children of all ages can join our summer reading program encouraging children to read books from our
fantastic collection! Also attend our exciting Wednesday programs to collect prizes and vir tual badges!
Online registration and participation is new this year, too! Last day to enter our grand prize drawing is August
18 by 8:00 P. M. Last day to pick up prizes is Saturday, August 20 by 5:00 P. M.
“Read-to-me” Program (0-5 yrs.) - Receive a badge and prize for every 15 books you read to your child
(max 30 books). Read 30 books and enter our grand prize drawing!
Independent Readers - Receive a badge and a prize for every 200 minutes spent reading (max 800
minutes). Read for 800 minutes and enter our grand prize drawing!

June 22: Kinderwise Performers!
A high-energy, musical stage production for children which features the Kinderwise performers in a magical
journey of singing, dancing, and comedic skits that is not to be missed!
June 29: Wild Wonders, Inc.!
Science comes alive in this interactive wildlife program featuring six furry, feathered, and scaly animals!
Children will be enthralled with this educational, entertaining, live animal show.
July 6: Fantastick Patrick Show!

Entertainer, Fantastick Patrick, brings his fast-moving show of comedy, juggling, balancing acts, musical
numbers, and an awesome, 10-foot unicycle finale to our library! Tons of fun for kids of all ages!
Release your inner artist! Master Artist will take you step- by-step as you create your masterpiece. Join us
for an afternoon of creative fun.
