Experience the Jazz Festival in Oslo
Oslo Jazz Festival was held for the first time in 1986. The festival always has
an emphasis on quality and history, and you will find practically every genre
represented, from ragtime to rap via main styles swing, bop and modern electric
and acoustic forms.
The one-week festival will consist of about 80 events, including 3 concerts
especially for children. The event, which will last until August 16, has built a strong
reputation among performers, their agencies and audiences alike for being a warm
and professionally executed festival.

Useful App
HelseRespons is a patient dialogue system for GPs in Norway. The system enables
patients to book appointments with their doctor directly from their smartphone, as
well as order prescriptions and securely send messages to their practice.
The app is currently only in Norwegian, but it is very simple to use and has an
intuitive interface, so give it a go!

John Legend to Oslo in October
The man behind the megahit “All of Me” and nine times Grammy Award winner,
John Legend, will visit Oslo Spektrum October 19.
The American neo-soul singer has previously collaborated with among others Alicia
Keys, Mary J. Blige, Kanye West and Janet Jackson. In 2004, Legend started his
solo career with the release of the album “Get Lifted”. The album gave him a total
of eight nominations and three Grammy’s. In 2007 he received the Starlight Award
by the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Oslo Chamber Music Festival presents music from medieval times to the present day.
Concerts with Norwegian and international top artists at Oslo’s best concert venues, including

The Mela Festival, Rådhusplassen, August 15 - 17
Annual multicultural festival at the City Hall Square.
Oslo Mela is one of the largest events of its kind outside the Asian subcontinent.
Mela means “meeting point”, and has roots thousands of years back in South Asia. In its modern
form Mela is a festival based on artistic and cultural expressions, food and stalls with information
and goods of all kinds. The festival is popular with all age groups.
This year’s Mela Festival’s headliner is Wyclef Jean.
Wyclef Jean’s solo career has been tremendously successful and topped the lists worldwide
with songs like 911 with Mary J. Blige, Perfect Gentleman, Gone til November and Party to
Damascus. Wyclef has performed with Carlos Santana and Avicii on the new World Cup song.

Action Bronson is described as one of the funniest and best writers of hip-hop, and
is one of the most popular rappers in New York. The 30-year-old from Queens has

Franz Ferdinand, Rockefeller, August 15 at 20.00
The Scottish band Franz Ferdinand experienced chart success with their super hit
“Take Me Out” from their debut album “Franz Ferdinand” in 2004. The following
year they released “You Could Have It So Much Better ”. Now, Alex Kapranos & Co
are ready with a fourth album “Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action”, and the
album has received critical acclaim. They have previously sold out Rockefeller, John
Dee and Sentrum Scene. Now they’re ready for Rockefeller again!

Dance performance: Hedvig from The Wild Duck, Den Norske Opera &
Ballett, August 14 – 15 at 19.30, Aug 16 at 18.30
When Norwegian choreographer Ina Christel Johannessen was challenged to
create a dance from Henrik Ibsen’s The Wild Duck in Hong Kong, she used the
perspective of the child Hedvig. Together with the dancers of Hong Kong’s leading
contemporary dance company, City Contemporary Dance Company (CCDC), she
created an Ibsen-like twist for the 21st century that challenges the boundaries
between truth, fiction and illusion, powerfully expressed through dance.
Hedvig from the Wild Duck is presented by Ibsen International and the Norwegian
National Ballet.

Onger er Rare, Nasjonal Jazzscene Victoria, August 16 at 14.00
Storytelling and music for children (in Norwegian). By occasion of Alf Prøysen’s 100th
birth anniversary, Nasjonal Jazzscene Victoria invites you to the family concert Onger
er Rare by Maj Britt Andersen. Maj Britt Andersen is one of the most prominent
children’s singers in Norway with a career of over 30 years. In 2006 she released the
album “Onger er rare”, a children’s record with some of the most famous songs by Alf
Prøysen. The album had a very good reception from the public, great reviews and it
was nominated for the Norwegian Music Awards.
