Welcome to the ADDY® Awards!
The World’s Largest Advertising CompetitionTM
The ADDY® Awards are the advertising industry’s largest and most representative competition, recognizing creative excellence and the very best advertising
worldwide. Sponsored by the American Advertising Federation (AAF), the ADDY Awards represent the true creative spirit of advertising by recognizing all
forms of advertising, from all types of media, created by all sizes and types of entrants, from anywhere in the world. Last year, the addition of an international
component expanded the ADDY Awards from a national program into a worldwide competition with over 60,000 total entries.
The ADDY Awards are unique among all advertising creative competitions. It is the only competition that includes three rigorous levels of judging:
• Entries are first judged at a local level through competitions organized by more than 200 ad clubs affiliated with the AAF.
• Local winners then advance to 14 regional competitions.
• Finally, regional winners advance to the national/international finals.
Thus, ADDY Award winners truly represent “the best of the best of the best.” With the ADDY Awards, it is the size of the idea that matters most. Not the
size of the organization that created the work or the size of the budget behind it. This distinction truly separates the ADDY Awards from virtually every
other advertising competition.
This year’s AAF 10th District ADDY judging saw 1,300 entries from 26 Regional AAF chapters and 17 colleges. The entries that were scored as being Gold
or Silver ADDY award winners are listed on the following pages.

Sharon joined The Seattle Times Company in
1990 after holding a similar position with the
Houston Chronicle for nine years. Prior to that,
she began her career with McCann-Erickson
advertising agency as a copywriter for local,
national and regional clients such as Exxon, Bank
of the Southwest, Astroworld, and Whataburger.
Sharon is a graduate of Trinity University in San
Antonio, Texas.
After a lengthy career in media, Michael Kilgore
joined The Center in 2001. His areas of emphasis
now include public relations, education and show
marketing, group services and publications –
including online initiatives. He formerly worked in
news and then as Marketing Director – including
management of creative services – for The
Tampa Tribune. During his tenure as Marketing
Director at the Tribune, the newspaper won Best
of Show (for most awards) in the annual Florida
Newspaper Advertising and Marketing Executives
awards for nine straight years. They also won
various Newspaper Association of America and
International Newspaper Marketing Association
marketing awards. He is a former board member,
regional chair and columnist for INMA. He is cochair of the Road Marketing Committee for the
League of American Theatres and Producers.
A native San Antonian and University of Texas
graduate, Randy’s career and fascination with
frostbite began in Chicago and has led him to
Minneapolis, Minnesota where he is Creative
Director at Carmichael Lynch. He’s created
award-winning work for clients Coke, Ikea, HarleyDavidson Motorclothes, Northwest Airline, Rapala
Fishing Lures, and Target.

Daniel O. Vargas founded Vargas & Amigos Inc,
the first Latino agency in Georgia. During the last
fifteen years he has created award-winning work
for various clients targeting the Latino Market.
Vargas has been awarded with over 75 national
and international creative awards in advertising
including: five Clios, four National ADDYs, Named
to Advertising Age’s “100 Best Ads Ever Created”
list and five Se Habla Español Awards.
Marcia Vargas has eight years of advertising and
marketing creative experience in Atlanta and
New York. Her background includes work for
America’s leading advertising agencies including
BBDO, where she created campaigns for Delta
Air Lines’ 1996 Olympic participation, and Trahan
Burden Charles, where she oversaw campaigns
for the Baltimore Ravens, Micron Computers,
Maryland Lottery, The National Aquarium of
Baltimore, Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Maryland
and MedLink. Marcia is a graduate of the leading
edge advertising school, The Portfolio Center, in
Atlanta and served as a visiting creative professor
at the Portfolio Center, teaching classes in visual
solutions.
Mike Weber is an award winning writer, producer,
director, and voice talent. As a pre-med student in
college, he took a decided interest in the right side
of his own brain and switched to broadcasting. He
worked for 17 years as a radio personality and talk
show host, then started CMR Studios in 1986.

Vargas was Executive Art Director for BBDO,
Atlanta, Georgia where he was responsible for
the Delta Air Lines account. Dan was a principal in
Rafshoon, Shivers, Vargas, Tolpin—and the agency
that put President Jimmy Carter in office. In New
York City he worked as an Art Director at Wells
Rich & Greene, Avon Products, Shaller Ruben, and
William Douglas McAdams. Vargas is well known
to Georgians as the person who designed the
Georgia Peach logo found on license plates, lottery
tickets and Georgia Welcome Center signage.

Mike has judged over a hundred ADDY
competitions nationwide. He is Immediate Past
Chair of the National ADDY Committee, and has
been a local chair seven times, 4TH District Chair
four times and served on the AAF National ADDY
committee for 16 years. In that time he contributed
to much of the structure of the competition. He is
most proud that an original design concept of his
was adopted as the logo and national trophy for
the ADDY Awards in 1997.
A founder of the Tampa Bay Ad Fed, he has a long
AAF resume. He is a Silver Medal winner, 4th
District Gold Medal recipient, past Governor of
the 4th District and AAF Eastern Region Chair.

coordinated grassroots network of advertisers, agencies, media
companies, local advertising clubs and college chapters.

AAF 100th Anniversary
The American Advertising Federation (AAF) is celebrating its 100-year
anniversary. To mark its extraordinary longevity, the AAF has planned a
series of events, programs and initiatives that will showcase its influence
on the business of advertising. The anniversary will also be woven into
all AAF signature events including the Most Promising Minority Students
program, the Advertising Hall of Fame and AAF National Conference
2005. As the longest running trade association of its kind, the AAF has
been an integral part of numerous landmark actions that have shaped
the business into a major economic and cultural force worldwide.

The American Advertising Federation (AAF) Tenth District is comprised
