Make strips sets with 1¾" strips of fabric (1, 2, 3, 4 & 5).
Stagger the strips for best use of the fabric.Diagram 1.

1. Add 3½" red Jacobean floral borders to the remaining
star block. Press toward the borders.
Pillow Back
2. Fold under 1/4" twice and stitch close to the fold on the
long side of the (2) 16" x 24½" red Jacobean floral back
pieces. Place the pieces one on top of the other, overlapping the hemmed edges as shown. Pin to secure the
pieces.
3. Layer the top and pinned back, right sides together and
sew around all the edges with a ½" seam allowance.
Stitch again over the overlapped section for extra reinforcement.
4. Turn right side out and press. Stitch in the ditch of the
border seams. Insert 18" pillow form.

Arrange four stars alternating with (2) 3½" x 18½" black
damask side border strips and the (3) 3½" x 18½" white
damask sashing strips and sew together; begin and end
row with 3½" x 18½" black damask strips. Press toward the
sashing strips. (Diagram 8)
Add 3½" x 86½" black damask top and bottom border
strips. Press toward the borders.
Reverse:
1. Sew 3½" x 18½" black damask side border to each end
of 18½" x 81" white Jacobean floral center section.
2. Sew 3½" x 86½" black damask to top and bottom. Press
toward the borders. Diagram 8.
3. Layer, quilt and bind with red vine.

Assembly of Bed Scarf

Press seams open to minimize bulk.
1. Use a ruler to measure and mark an accurate ¼"
seam allowance on the corners of the diamond units,
background squares A and triangles B. Mark lightly on
the back of each piece.
2. Arrange the pieces as shown. Digram 4. Pin through
the ¼" marks and backstitch at the beginning and end
of each seam, stopping at the ¼" marks.
3. Sew the Y seams in the order shown, (1, 2, 3...) sewing
between the ¼" marks in the direction of the arrows.

4. In the same manner, sew the units into four
components adding triangle B as shown. Diagram 5.
5. Sew the components together. The background pieces
may be trimmed to even up the sides of the quilt before
adding the border. Diagrams 6 & 7. They measure 18½"
unfinished.
