Jewellery – Knitting with Wire
With Jill Parnell

Design and create intricate cable-like neckpieces and other jewellery using various knitting
and braiding techniques with wire. No knitting or crochet experience required.
Tutor Biography: Jill Parnell studied at the Claremont Art School and Carine TAFE for
Diplomas in Art and Design. She has been teaching silver jewellery and enamelling for
about 15 years. Jill exhibits nationally and internationally, particularly contemporary
enamel jewellery and objects. Her pieces are represented in major collections including
the Museum of Contemporary Enamel in Salau, Spain and are available for purchase at
Fremantle Arts Centre’ shop, FOUND.
Aims of the Course: To complete various jewellery projects and learn techniques that
can be continued at home without expensive equipment.
Materials/equipment students will need to bring:
• crochet hook (small)
• allen key 3 or 3.5mm
• knitting needle 6 or 7mm (from Op shops)
• large darning needle or pointed instrument
• fine ring bending (forming) pliers,
• side cutters
• small screw on bench vice ($5 from Bunnings)
• any interesting wire, eg craft wire from bead shops, seeds, beads or shells (with
holes) (not too many).
• piece of wood approx. 15mm thick, 100mm square
• piece of dowell 15mm diameter, 150mm long
• silver wire if you have it: Sterling .5mm round, .8mm round, 1.5mm round, fine
.5mm round or .4mm round
Materials/equipment to be supplied by tutor: silver wire
Approximate cost to student: Dependant on weight of metal, (silver is charged at
approx. $1.60 a gram). Current prices will be charged as the cost of silver fluctuates

REFUND POLICY
If you are unable to attend, notice must be given five days before the course commences to receive a credit note, less
20% administration fee, redeemable within 12 months.
If a class is cancelled by FAC we will refund your money in full.
While every effort is made to run courses as publicised, on occasion changes to location and tutor of a course may
need to be made. FAC reserves the right to make these changes. In this event no refund or credit will be given.
