A Place to Learn, Share & Be Creative
Project Knitalong...
On Wednesday afternoons from 1-3 pm we’ll be having a “Project of the Month” knitalong. For March
we’re going to make a beautiful crescent-shaped shawl called “Seven Sisters” using Wolles
Color-Changing cotton yarn. Download the pattern from Ravelry and then come in and pick out your
favorite colorway (it only takes 1 skein). Come join the fun each Wednesday afternoon as we learn,
share and be creative together!
National Crochet Month...
March is National Crochet Month. Come join us on Wednesday afternoons from 1-3 pm as we make
the beautiful “Changes” shawl for spring. All it takes is a G hook and one skein of Noro Taiyo Sock for
the small size (16” deep and 36” wide) or 3 skeins for the large size (24” deep and 54” wide). Bring in
your shawl by Saturday, March 29, and we will put it on display for everyone to see. We’ll also have
a drawing to see who will be the winner of a skein of Lorna’s Laces sock yarn. Come join
the fun and possibly win a prize!
Spring Fling 2014...
Our Spring Fling this year will be on March 17-22. For every $25 you spend on regularly priced items,
you will get your name put into a drawing for our Spring Gift Basket. Monday of that week is St.
Patrick’s Day. Wear green that day and you’ll get an extra punch on your Rewards Card.
Spring Has Sprung Weekend...
On April 11 & 12 we’re going to have a Spring Has Spring Weekend. We’ll have a Yarn Tasting of our
new spring yarns, a spring reveal on our new project wall, projects for the kids to make, spinning and
weaving demonstrations, a petting zoo of alpacas, and a sale of alpaca poop for your gardens. All of
the details haven’t been worked out yet, but it will be a fabulous weekend for the whole family. Save
the dates and come have fun with fiber!
New Weaving Instructor…
Roz Yenzer is now doing our Weaving Classes. Here’s a short bio about her…
In the 3rd grade my teacher brought in some table looms and taught us how to
weave. It really made that year of school one of my favorite memories. Mom got a
lovely 4 heddle floor loom and I would help her put on the warp and get to weave
some too. I had dreams of creating beautiful woven materials. In my 50s I
inherited my mother’s loom and looked forward to weaving...only first I needed to
retire from 20 years of special education teaching. First attempts at working on my
own on the loom were comical disasters! I moved to TN 5 1/2 years ago and found
myself among many talented weavers. I joined the Tuesday Weavers at the
Appalachian Arts and Craft Center in Norris, and my skills as a weaver began to
grow. I am a very strong supporter of taking lessons and learning by doing! A rigid heddle loom I got at
The Yarn Haven allows me to weave smaller items. I can now use up many of my yarn scraps and create
different patterns with
different textures. Weaving has brought so much creativity and joy into my life.
Yes, dreams can come true!
Starting in March, we will be open on Monday nights until 8 pm!!!
Fiber Friends...
Project Linus will be our Charity Project for March and April. Blankets are needed
to give as gifts to seriously ill and traumatized children, ages 0-18. Please consider
knitting, crocheting, or sewing a blanket this spring for Project Linus. All blankets
should be made of new, washable fabric or yarn in child friendly colors. More info
can be found on their website...www.projectlinuseasttn.org.
Need knitting/crocheting help on your project?
We are always more than happy to help customers with project problems and issues during regular store
hours but our shop girls stay pretty busy helping customers with their selection of patterns, yarns, etc. So
we now have an available knitting and crocheting help teacher. Just bring in your project and our “Stitch
Doctor” will help get you back on track. Cost is $15/hr, but fee will be prorated based on the amount of
time needed. For involved requests such as garment construction or learning complicated stitches, you
may need to have a paid private lesson or attend one of our Weekly Classes.
Blocking and Felting?
Many times we have heard folks say that they can’t felt their project because they have a front-loading
washer. Or they know their garment should be blocked, but they are scared to do it. Blocking will smooth
out any wrinkles, stretch garment out to the correct size, relax the stitches so they are all more uniform
and make the garment look and fit better. We can provide these services for you. Just bring your projects
to us for felting or blocking. Cost is $10 per item.
Weekly Classes...
We have weekly classes every day. Mimi’s classes are for knitters and Kelora’s classes are for knitters OR
crocheters. If you need help with a project or just want to start a new project with someone giving you
help each step along the way, then come join one of our Weekly Classes. Cost is $40/month. An incentive
for signing up for the month is that you get a 10% discount on your supplies all month long. But you can
still just come to one class for $10 as long as there is room in the class. Be sure to call the shop to
make sure we have room in the class for you to join us.
Our weekly classes meet:
• Monday evenings (6-8 pm) - Knit only
