Appliances
Appliances
Electric or gas-powered devices such as stoves, refrigerators, air conditioners,
washers, dryers, dishwashers, freezers, water heaters, or garbage disposals
Do NOT throw away microwave ovens or televisions because they are hazardous. See: Electronics,
hazardous for disposal. For other non hazardous electronics refer to Electric Items.
1. Reduce waste by repairing a broken appliance instead of replacing it. Many appliance repair
stores offer in-home service, or contact one of the used appliance dealers listed below for
repair services.
2. Reduce waste if you buy a new appliance by selecting an Energy Star appliance. Ask the
delivery person to take your old appliance if you have a new unit delivered.
3. Reuse by selling or giving appliances to a used appliance dealer for reuse or recycling. The
following dealers accept used (empty) appliances. All allow free drop off unless noted, some
offer pickup service for a fee. Most will take appliances in any condition; exceptions are noted
below. Call to confirm.
