Preparation Requirements
Property Owner or Manager Preparations
˚ Sprinkler Systems rated below 155°F need to be shut down and sprinkler heads need to be removed or
replaced with heads rated at 155°F or higher.
˚ Deactivate or remove smoke/heat/fire detectors and alarms in service area. Contact alarm company if needed.
˚ Detach carpet from perimeter tack strips and roll up area rugs (leave area rugs in treatment area).
˚ Remove receptacle and switch plate covers from walls. Replace them after service is completed.
Resident or Tenant Preparations
˚ Remove pets and plants from treatment area.
˚ Unlock and make accessible all storage chests, luggage and cabinets.
˚ Unplug electronic devices including, but not limited to computer systems, clocks, televisions, entertainment systems, lamps, etc. plugged into wall sockets.
˚ Remove pictures mirrors and ornaments from walls and refrigerator doors. Framed items should be placed
on the floor and propped against the wall. Unframed pictures should be placed in photo albums or otherwise flattened and stored in envelopes as heat will curl loose photos.
˚ Remove storage bags and containers from all closets. Hanging clothing should be left in closets.
˚ Remove all bed linens, bed spreads and dust ruffles from mattresses and box springs. These may be left in the room to be heated or laundered and brought back in after the treatment.
˚ Remove no-wet vinyl covers and any other plastic or vinyl enveloping bed springs, mattresses or other furniture.
˚ Remove all clothing or other fabric that are packed in boxes, storage bins, luggage or on closet shelves and place in a dryer on high setting for 30 minutes. These items can be folded and placed in large tightly sealed plastic bags and clearly marked CLEAN in large letters on a piece of tape or a tag.
˚ Remove medication, vitamins and chocolate candy of any kind.
˚ Remove all wax items including, but not limited to candles, soap, crayons, etc.
˚ Remove all lipstick, lip balm and other cocoa butter or oil based cosmetics.
˚ Remove carbonated beverages such as soda, beer, sparkling cider, wine or champagne from treatment area.
˚ Remove life support apparatus from treatment area.
˚ Remove pressurized aerosol cans from the treatment area.
˚ Remove oil or other expensive paintings and artwork from the treatment area.
˚ Remove all firearms and ammunition.
˚ Remove fire extinguishers.
˚ Remove musical instruments. Leave instrument cases in the treatment area.
˚ Remove valuable or irreplaceable items such as old photographs, heirlooms, and expensive jewelry from the service area.
Your Sales Representative or Technician will be able to determine whether other items that can be
sensitive to high temperatures up to 150º F may need to be removed.
* Remember, bed bugs can be reintroduced at any point during or after a bed bug service. Be very cautious about bringing used furniture and other items into your property as these may be infested with bed bugs.

˚ Provide Rentokil service personnel access to unit(s) and all interior areas of unit(s) scheduled
for treatment. Unlock all storage chests and cabinets in service area.
˚ Unplug all electronic devices and appliances including, but not limited to, clocks, televisions,
microwave ovens, electric stoves, refrigerators, freezers, washing machines, dryers, etc.
˚ De-energize and unplug computer systems.
˚ Detach carpet from perimeter tack strips.
˚ Empty closets of storage bags and containers.
˚ Open luggage as well as dresser drawers and nightstands.
