When Lotto Games Can Be Sold
Lotto tickets can be purchased for any game, Powerball, Montana Cash, Wild Card,
Hot Lotto) until 8pm on the draw night. Drawings are held every Wednesday and
Saturday, including holidays.
Players should be encouraged to review their play slip carefully before giving it to the
clerk. Once printed, a ticket cannot be cancelled.
Clerks should verify the dollar amount due from the player before they close out the
sale and send the transaction.

When the [PLAY PREVIEW] button is off, each ticket will print automatically.
When on, up to 20 tickets will accumulate and display in the Transaction
Summary screen. Refer to the section “Selling Lotto Games” for instructions
on enabling or disabling this feature.
Where to Get Winning Numbers
It is recommended that you always use the Lottery terminal for accurate validations.

How to Claim Prizes
Prizes must be claimed within 180 days of the drawing in which the ticket won the
prize.


Prizes up to $599 may be claimed at any Montana Lottery retailer or by mail.
Prizes over $599 must be claimed at the Montana Lottery Headquarters in
person or by mail.

How to Play Powerball®
1. Pick five (5) white ball numbers between 1 and 55,
and one (1) red Powerball number between 1 and 42,
or mark the Quick Pick box on the Powerball play slip. Each play costs $1.
2. Play up to five (5) different sets of numbers on a play slip for the current drawing.
3. The same numbers can be purchased for up to twenty-four (24) consecutive
drawings by marking the appropriate Multi-Draw box on the play slip.
4. If you make a mistake, mark the VOID box and move to the next play on your
play slip.
Powerball® Power Play
A Power Play multiplier number between 2 and 5 will be drawn when the Powerball
numbers are drawn. That number will multiply any Powerball prize won, except the
jackpot, by the Power Play number drawn for players who purchased the Power Play
option. For example, if a player wins $200,000 by matching 5 white balls and also
selected the Power Play option, they would win a total of $1,000,000 ($200,000 X 5)
if the Power Play number “5” was selected. Powerball Jackpot prizes are not
multiplied even if the Power Play option is chosen.
How to Add Power Play
1. Mark “Y” for Yes under Power Play on the Powerball play slip to choose the
Power Play option.
If the customer is purchasing a ticket without a play slip, and you are working in
the manual entry screen, you must touch the Power Play [No] button to change
the Power Play option to [Yes].
2. The Lottery terminal will print “Power Play: Yes” on the Powerball ticket when the
Power Play option has been purchased.
3. If the Power Play option is not marked on the play slip, the Lottery terminal will
display a prompt asking you to choose the Power Play option. Press [YES] to
add Power Play, and [NO] if the customer does not want Power Play.

The Power Play option costs an additional $1 for each $1 of play. By marking “Y” on
the play slip, all plays on the play slip will be Power Plays and each play will cost an
additional $1. Power Play cannot be applied to individual plays on a multi-play or
Multi-Draw play slip. Adding Power Play doubles the cost of the Powerball plays
purchased on each ticket. For example, the total cost would be $10 if a player
purchased five Powerball Multi-Draw plays ($5) with Power Play ($5).
Power Play Drawing
The Power Play number will be randomly selected from a set of 15 multiplier
numbers (2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3, 4, 4, 4, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5) before the Powerball drawing. If a
player wins any Powerball prize from $3 to $200,000, the Power Play multiplier will
multiply the set prize amount by the Power Play number drawn if they add Power
Play to their purchase. The Power Play numbers are not “winning numbers” and may
not be used to match player numbers in the game itself.

Selecting the Power Play option will not increase a player’s chance of winning a
prize; the Power Play option gives players the chance to increase the value of any
prize won (except the Powerball Jackpot Prize).
Jackpot Prize
All Powerball plays are sold as a 30-year “Annuity” Jackpot payout. Within sixty (60)
days after a Jackpot winner is entitled to a Jackpot prize, they may elect to choose
the “Cash” option which is the present cash value of the “Annuity” Jackpot, and
receive the prize in a single cash payment.

Two Drawings A Week
Winning numbers are drawn every Wednesday and Saturday at 9:59 p.m. (CT).
Lottery officials will conduct the Powerball drawing of five (5) white ball numbers
between 1 and 55, and one (1) red Powerball number between 1 and 42, as well as
that night’s Power Play multiplier. Players have until 8pm on draw days to buy their
tickets. Players win Powerball prizes by matching some or all of the numbers drawn,
as shown in the following prize chart:

Claiming Prizes


Winning Lotto tickets must be claimed within 180 days after the Lotto drawing
for which a prize was won.
If you attempt to validate a ticket after the 180 days, the terminal will not
validate the ticket and a message will display on the terminal and the
Customer Display that states “Sorry, 180 day claim period has expired.” You
cannot make a payment, nor can the Montana Lottery Headquarters.
Game Closing Policy


Players will have 180 days after a Lotto game closes, or from the draw date of
a winning ticket if the draw date is prior to the game close, to redeem winning
Lotto tickets from a closed game.
Retailers will receive written notice prior to the closing of individual Lotto
games.
