Foreword by Gary Clinton
Welcome to the wonderful world of guitar! We hope you find this booklet a big help in ensuring you make fast
progress in your guitar playing skills. Check out the Guitar & Music Institute for more free lessons, as well as a
massive amount of other resources for those making their way in music.
I had fun in creating the course, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it. We have included extra materials within this book that were spoken about in my videos. You should also have three backing tracks to
help with specific lessons.
All the best

BEFORE YOU START - TUNING THE GUITAR
We wanted you to get right into this course and we felt that it was better to give you rock solid tuition on the areas that mattered most to get you playing as fast as possible.
With this in mind, we did not want to go over areas that are covered well across the Internet. Before you
play your guitar, it helps if it’s in tune!

I showed you how to work with i, m strokes. You should also practice the following:
m, i strokes
i, a strokes
Finally, I mentioned that we would be playing “free” strokes. The other stroke is a “rest” stroke. This stroke
is used to create a thicker more sonorous tone. To do it, you pluck the string then let the pull through of the
finger take your finger to rest on the next string below. A rest stroke is played with the right hand fingers at
a slight angle (backwards) to the string.

LESSON TEN - INTRO TO SCALES
Believe it or not, all music is created from two main elements. Scales and arpeggios. Now, we felt that arpeggios
were beyond the scope of what we wanted to offer, however, we have provided you with a scale to work with.
As mentioned on the video, you can use the scale below (which has the same notes as the C Major scale) to
experiment and work out songs that you know as well as create songs of your own.
Experimentation really is the key here as well as having fun! So, good luck and get cracking with the scale
below.
