How To Listen:
What ever is going over my “Mic In” port on my computer (line level signal from a 6
channel mixer hosting audio inputs for my IC-725, PRO-2051, BCT-7, HTX-212 and an
HTX-420) can now be heard over the internet. There are two ways:
1) Choose the “Listen” link in the menu at the top-center of the page.

2) Open Windows Media Player and navigate to the menus. From the “File” menu choose
“Open URL”. Then copy or type directly the first example URL in option one
(http://71.237.96.249:8000/ ). Winamp and a hand full of other players function in a very,
very similar manner.
FYI / Warning: This will fail invariably if port 8000 (maybe 8001 too) are blocked
inbound or outbound from your LAN. You may need to consult with the vendor for your
router and or your ISP. Don’t bother me about it unless your willing to have me look
right at your gear…firewall issues are rarely addressed successfully over the phone or via
email. I will entertain emails on the subject regardless ( [email protected] ).
How To Setup Your Own Streaming Audio Server:
By now you should have found this document from the website. I’ve also taken a moment
to include it in the total package archive. Make sure all audio is headed into the MIC in
port on your computer audio card. In my case its an RCA to .8th inch stereo cable off of
the RCA monitor jacks and into the mic in audio port on the card. Of course you can
make it line in but that’s where I happen to have the audio for the TV going.
There will be several files and directories once UN-Zipped. UN-Zip and install Winamp.
There are a pair of PDF files that contain the name and key you will need to use the Pro
sections of Winamp. This may be a requirement for the dsp plug-in to function so follow
through with entering the key in Winamp.
After installing Winamp install the shoutcast-dsp-1-9-0-windows.exe. Then install the
shoutcast-dnas-1-9-8-windows.exe package. This is the Streaming Audio Server which
will send whatever is coming across (in this order) your soundcard and into Winamp. The
DSP Plug-in (once installed & configured) will target the DNAS server which in turn
sends the audio over the internet. Winamp (with the DSP plug-in applied and running)
can and will run on the same machine as the DNAS server.
The DNAS server will show itself as a command or DOS window indicating first the fact
it started up; then when Winamp is started and configured with the DSP plug-in it will
show the attempt for it to find the server. Then it will send a test audio string to the
Shoutcast servers. The Shoutcast servers then will test it, add you to the available list of
servers for others to listen to and then will drop the signal since it no longer needs to test
it.
All subsequent connections will be various IP addresses for the sources of other listeners
that start to listen and / or drop the connection.

…simply mean that someone has looked you up as a result of a search or come directly to
your link at Shoutcast ( www.shoutcast.com ).
Configure the DSP Plug-in:
Start Winamp. Go to Preferences and then select the Plug-ins section:
Select the plug in show in the example above. If it does not automatically launch the
“SHOUTcast Source” window then select the “Configure active plug-in” button.
This will open the “SHOUTcast Source” window: The following pages describe
configuring the “SHOUTcast Source” window.

The settings can be adjusted to whatever you want pretty much. You can see here I have
my AIM ID and ICQ number…I deliberately typed in “Scanner” for the Genre type and
left the IRC option as it was. The Description I decided to make what the content of the
stream really is. Since it’s listening to Ductchess 911 Fire and Law Enforement
dispatches on VHF, UHF and the greater NYCOMCO EDACS trunk system then that is
pretty much how it’s spelled out…only shorter to fit in the region and type of scanner
audio.
Output / Connection:
The “Address” needs to be the IP address of the computer running the DNAS
server…remember the thing with the command or DOS looking window? If you’re
running everything on the same machine then make this the IP address of that machine.
Leave everything else alone. In my example 10.11.12.101 is the IP address of the
machine running the DNAS server.
Encoder:
Just mirror the selections in this Encoder section of the DSP Plug-in.
Input:
I've noticed that the program installed by the sound card manufacturer is going to take
precedence over the native audio controls that the DSP plug can and will prompt you
with (such as above)...if the native audio controls do not respond use the program fader /
control panel provided by the card manufacturer; IE Creative in my case OR the
Windows Audio channel controls. The “Open Mixer” button in the above example will
open the Windows Audio controls.
