How to test the insulated heatsinks for customer EVPU
Dielectric strength
1. Instrument used for the test: Risatti E6/PR-S.
2. To test one heatsink at a time.
3. To connect the first alligator clip at one fin of the heatsink and the second at an insulated
block (fixing a M6 screw in a M6 hole and clamp the connector at the screw).
4. in case of more than 1 insulated block, to join the blocks with some metallic bars.
5. To apply voltage (1’ @ 10.5 kV AC - 50 Hz).
6. If OK (not breakdown) proceed with partial discharge test / If not OK (breakdown) remove
the block and substitute the insulation layer.

Partial discharge
1. Instrument used for the test: MPS STE – TMG (partial discharges); MPS TPK (calibrator).
2. To test one block at a time.
3. To connect the black alligator clip at one fin the heatsink and the red at an insulated block
(fixing a M6 screw in a M6 hole and clamp the connector at the screw).
4. To insert the black connector of the calibrator on the red alligator clip and the red connector
on the black alligator clip and set the correction factor to obtain 50 pC.
5. To remove the calibrator.
6. To apply voltage (4 kV) and register the partial discharges value (OK if ≤ 20 pC).
7. To increase voltage (5 kV) and register the partial discharges value (OK if ≤ 100 pC).
8. To increase voltage (6 kV) and register the partial discharges value (OK if ≤ 1000 pC).
9. To increase voltage (7 kV) and register the partial discharges value.
The voltage is applied for the time necessary to set the range to visualize the partial discharges
and to register the value (between 10” ÷ 20”).
The report must be included on the shipment of heatsinks, a copy must be archived by Quality
Department.
10. If OK proceed with capacity test / If not OK (partial discharges values under the limits)
remove the block and substitute the insulation layer.
