HOW TO INSTALL PASSAN?
1.1 POWER SUPPLY AND CONSUMPTION
Passan controller can only be powered with 12Vdc. The acceptable range of voltage is between 12 and 13.8V
You should always use a different power supply for the controller and the lock. The controller’s power supply should be
regulated and filtered whereas the lock’s power supply needs only to be regulated.

More than twenty combinations are possible depending on the options and the reader type that we add to the control unit.
According to cases, a power supply of 0.6A to 2A should be choosen.
1.2 PASSAN GENERAL FEATURES
1.2.1 How does it work? Passan is a scalable access control: modules can be added to respond fully to customer’s needs.
1.2.2 Door Extension modules
The Passan base can control 2 doors. By adding extension modules Door 3&4 and extension modules Door
5&6, Passan will be able to control up to 6 doors by controller. You can also connect up to 32 controllers
in a network so that the Passan networked system would be able to control 192 doors.

On each door you can connect a proximity reader or a RF receiver.

1.2.3 Intercom Extension Module
By adding the Intercom Extension Module, Passan will be able to control two entry panels. Each entry
panel can be independent or connected together to create a network with a Master Panel and Slave
Panels.
A few definitions:
Riser
The riser is a vertical pipe in a building where there are the cables between the Entry panels and the
apartment handsets.
Decoder
The decoder is an interface that receive calls from the entry panels and dispatch them to 10 apartment
handsets.
Secondary Entry panel
A Secondary entry panel is always associated to the main panel. This unit is always connected to the
Intercom decoder.
Main Entry Panel
The main entry panel is linked to the riser through a secondary entry panel. A Main Entry Panel may have
several Slaves (secondary entry panels). There is usually a main entry panel at the entrance of a site and
secondary entry panels installed at the entrance of each buildings of the same site. If for one riser, there
are two entry panels, one must be Master or Main and the other one must be Secondary or Slave.
IMPORTANT
• When creating an apartment, you need to associate it to one secondary call module. Then, you can
associate it to one or several main panels.
• On a site, one main entry panel can be in communication at a time.
• A Passan controller can control one secondary entry panel and one main entry panel; or two secondary
panels ; or two main panels.
• If you wish to install two or three entry panels connected to the same riser (to the same apartments
handsets), you need to install one secondary panel and two main panels.
1.2.3 Input and Output modules
These extension modules are used to interface Passan with other periphericals.
For instance, the input can be used to detect door contacts or any contact from another device such as a
standalone biometric reader.
In the other hand, the outputs send dry contacts that can be parametered NO/NC. The outputs become activated according to certain events such as access granted or access denied, door opening, counting zone
full… For each output, 50 types of events can be parametered. The outputs could be used to command
some accessories such as lighting, DVR.
IMPORTANT
It is not possible to use two Input/Output extension modules on the Passan base. An Inputs/Outputs board
is always the last board to be piled up on Passan.
The Inputs are said to be passive and should never be powered. The device would send a dry contact to
the Input extension module.
1.2.4 Lift module
This extension module is used to control two lifts of 40 floors each.
The only other option that can be added on a Passan controller managing lifts is an Input/Output extension
card.

connectors 1-2-3 or 9-10-11 of the extension module door 3&4 and/or the extension module door 5&6.
Important: do not connect the receiver wires near high voltage (220Vac) cables or door lock.
The RF receiver’s B+ and B- connectors should always be connected otherwise no communication will be
possible with Passan controller.
If you use a vehicle detector (underground loop), connect the detector’s relays to B+ and B-.
If you do not use any external detector, connect a wire between B+ and BDo not place the receiver in a metal box. This will decrease the RF efficiency.

CABLING
On the Intercom extension Module, the connectors 3 - 4 and 9 - 10 are dedicated to dry contacts to open
the door through the apartment handset.
The cables dedicated to the audio depends on the door phone system used. Refer to the Door Phone
System documentation before cabling.
Once the installation is completed, the decoders’ minimum voltage level should not be below 10V;
otherwise, the decoders will not work.
Do not connect the decoders near high voltage (220Vac) cables or door lock.

2.3.4Lift and Decoder wiring diagram
The connection between Passan and the lift extension module is a low-level connection as it uses only dry
contacts.
The output decoders are activated depending on which floors the keyholder has access to.
In case several keyholders present their keys to the lift reader, the authorised floor will be added.
Note: the access authorisation can also be given through the entry panle managed by a controller of the
same network.

2WIRES - WIRING DISTANCE: 5m MAX - WIRE DIAMETER: 0.9mm
The power supply must be 12VDC and should be able to bear 1A per controller.
Do not use the same power supply for controller and door lock. You must use two separate Power Supply.
You must always install a protection diode on the door lock connection. We recommend the protection
diode 1N4004 or 1N4007.
If you use a AC power supply for the locks, you should replace the protection diode by a bi-directional
transil with an adequate voltage. For instance, if the locks are powered with 24Vac, you should use a 25V
bi-directional transil.
Do not put the door lock cables next to the readers or decoders.

3 WIRES - WIRING DISTANCE: 1200m MAX - WIRE DIAMETER: 0.6mm - SENSIBLE CABLING SCREEN: YES
The maximum wire distance between the first and the last controllers of the network should not exceed
1200m.
Controllers are networked in parallel mode with 3 wires. You can create a loop
If the Passan controller contains some data, please contact the technical support before creating a
network.

PREPARE YOUR INSTALLATION
4.1 CONTROL UNIT ADDRESS
On the Passan Base, right side, there are some switches. These switches are used to give a number to
each Passan Controller within the same network. When you install a network, each controller should have
a different number from 0 to 31

Use sequestial address. Do not allocate a number according to block building number, street number...
This number is for controller identification
