Fertigasi is one of the Hydroponic’s family farming by putting fertilized water (nutrients) into the
root tree without using soil. This method uses materials such as mineral wool, coconut coir, sand,
broken bricks, wood dust and other soil substitute.
Therefore, the medium must be inexpensive and easy to find to be used in the fertigation. The most
widely used by fertigation system plant operators is coconut coir dust (CocoPeat) or husk fuel. In
addition, other medium that can be used are sand, granite pebbles, perlite, vermiculite and maidenwell
diatomite.
CocoPeat (Palm Fiber)
CocoPeat comes from processed coconut coir (fine grinding) using a special machine grinders. Among
the advantages of using CocoPeat are:
• Root crops will grow more fine roots compared the use of land because the media less
compact and easily facilitate root growth.
• the high absorption will result in the provision of water-fertilizer is very effective and not
wasted.
• Rates of low salt
• Free or almost no direct reproduction of bacteria and insect pests compared to the media
land.
• More light and easily handled.
• Prices are low because it is a waste.
However, as a result of the high water absorption capacity, roots will be exposed to quickly damage the
plant roots, especially in areas that receive high rainfall. Hence, it is better to built House Rain Protection
(RPH) to protect crops and cocopeat from damage.

Husk Paddy
Husk rice paddy are skin of paddy seeds(Oryza sativa) that has been blended. Commonly used paddy
husks are charcoal or raw bran. As planting media, both play an important role in plant media structural
repair.
• Charcoal husk or bran is burned with the technique as such, resulting in the husk into charcoal
(black). A good bran husk are the one that is easily burned, but not too damaged. Husk fuel also
good to "hold" the crop. Easily available and cheaper. Weakness husk fuel it is easily obsolete.
• Crude husk can also be used as a component of planting media. Advantages as raw planting media,
besides is porous and can hold water, is rich in vitamin B. There other benefits of this component is
not owned by other planting media, is a source of potassium (K) needed by plants, and not easily
clot or condense so that plant roots can grow properly.
Preferably, a mixture of medium such as husk and CocoPeat (3:1) used to provide ventilation as well as
support for the roots in polybag. But the use or husk or CocoPeat also practiced only by certain
operators depending on the area, since there are some areas that do not have coconut coir dust and
some areas have no husk fuel.
Note:
Agri4me
We testing using only cocopeat, only paddy husk and mixture of both. It’s still at early stage, will update
the results soon as the season ends.
Cocopeat : 10 polybag of 151
Paddy Husks : 10 polybag of 151
Mixed : 10 polybag of 568
