WOOD BADGE 2012
W1-606-12
A TRADITION OF TRAINING
A FOUNDATION OF LEADERSHIP
It is with great pleasure that I extend to you a personal invitation to
participate in Wood Badge. It is the ultimate leadership training
experience designed to meet the leadership needs for all Cub Scout, Boy
Scout, Varsity Scout, and Venturing leaders as well as council and
district leaders and Scouting professionals.
In this course, you will learn contemporary leadership concepts utilized
in corporate America and leading government organizations that are
relevant to our values based Scouting movement.
The formal training portion of the six-day, two-weekend course will be
conducted at Fire Mountain Scout Camp. The dates of the course are:
Thursday through Saturday, September 6-8 AND September 27-29.
Your training materials, food and lodging will be provided.
The first part of the Wood Badge course reflects unit meetings, while the
second part represents a unit camping activity.
After completion of the six days at camp, course work continues on an
individual basis as you “work your ticket”, a written service contract
with yourself that must be completed within 18 months.
I commend you for the commitment you've already made in behalf of
Scouting, but I am sure, through Wood Badge training, that you will be
able to make an even greater contribution to the benefit of our youth. It
is my sincere hope that you can arrange your time and other obligations
so you can join us on course. I am absolutely certain you will find the
time well spent and thoroughly enjoyable.
To attend a Wood Badge course, Scouters must:
• Be registered members of the Boy Scouts of America. There are
no minimum tenure requirements.
• Have completed the basic training courses for their Scouting
positions.
• Complete the outdoor skills training programs appropriate for
their Scouting positions.
• Be capable of functioning safely in an outdoor environment.
• Complete a BSA class 3 physical.
The fee to attend Mount Baker Council Wood Badge is $225. A deposit
of $100 must accompany the application, with the remaining amount
paid in full before August 6, 2012. In the event you must cancel your
application, all monies will be refunded (minus a $25 handling fee) if
requested in writing PRIOR to August 6, 2012. After that date, fees
cannot be returned. The fee is transferable to a Council approved
substitute applicant.
Since the course is limited in size, fully paid applicants will be admitted
on a first come, first-served basis. I urge you to complete the attached
acceptance form as soon as possible. After your initial application is
approved, we will send you an information packet with further details.
