2014 is flying past and thankfully we appear to have
reached that time of year when our surroundings
all seem a lot brighter, days are longer and the sun
occasionally makes an appearance.
I’m pleased to announce we added another exciting new
sector to our ADSI Group – ADSI Technology. Headed
up by Alan Butler, Technology offers flexible IT support

don’t have your own in-house IT department. We have a

The coming few months will also see the opening of a

strong team there and am sure it will be a great addition

Alan Butler is General Manager of
ADSI Technology. He originally
joined ADSI in 2007 as our IT
Manager, done such a great job,
he then went off to run his own
business specialising in IT services
and support. This proved very
successful and he has built up a good business reputation and
gained many accounts through his competitively priced service
solutions. We approached Alan at the beginning of this year to
head up a newly formed sector of ADSI – Technology which is
looking to become a very lucrative partnership for both. So we
asked Alan;
What do you like most about your job?
A lot of IT work is “behind the scenes” so it’s always good to improve
or install new systems where the end result can be seen by the users.
It’s great when you hear someone say, ”It’s working so much better/
faster than before”
How did you get interested in IT and what is your
earliest computer memory?
The two things coincide; I excelled in Computer Studies at Senior
School so my potential career was laid out before me very early on!
My first computer was back in 1983, a Sinclair ZX Spectrum 48k,
which I would spend hours writing programs on more than
playing games.
What do you think will be the biggest technology
development in the new few years?
I think the ‘shall we, shan’t we’ attitude that there has been to Cloud
Computing by home and business users has reached the end and it
will really start to grow in earnest. Hence Smartphones and Tablet
computing will continue to increase considerably, along with smart
devices within home and business, seeing the further decline of PCs
and Laptops.
How do you spend your free time?
Most people think my free time would be spent at home on all the
latest gadgetry and technology – definitely not! Home is an IT free
zone. When not renovating the house or spending time with my 3
Daughters and Step-Son, it’s usually spent playing golf or watching
rugby in the pub with my friends, or weekends away and evenings
out just relaxing with my fiancée Heidi.

the coast...
South West Business Showcase 2014
at Colston Hall, Bristol
on Tuesday 8th April
Devon and Basildon staff took to the 25 mile Coast
Path from Bude to Clovelly back in March and it
proved considerably harder than anticipated. Within
an hour from the start the steep cliff paths and
muddy downhill slopes were taking their toll on the
group. Stamina and fitness levels were certainly put
to the test! The views at the top of the coastline were
stunning and there was plenty of laughs from the
group along the way!
And even better, we raised some worthwhile funds
for the RNLI so thank you for your donations.
