Gospel Glimpses
Vistazos de los Evangelios
[T]he King of Israel, the LORD,
is in your midst, you have no
further misfortune to fear.
— Zephaniah 3:15b
El Señor será el rey de Israel
en medio de ti y ya no temerás
ningún mal.
— Sofonías 3:15b
Third Sunday of Advent
CELEBRATE
Tercer Domingo de Adviento
CELEBRA
This Sunday, God rejoices and sings because of us.
We read in Zephaniah today that God “will sing joyfully
because of you, / as one sings at festivals” (Zephaniah
3:18). We know plenty about singing at festivals. Already
our ears are ringing with the songs and carols that
anticipate the Christmas season.
Paul reminds us of the source of our own double
rejoicing: God is the mighty savior who is in our midst
(in Zephaniah’s words). Because this is so, says Paul, we
can rejoice and be at ease. We don’t have to worry, for
God’s peace will stand guard over our hearts and minds.
A medieval carol depicts Christmas as “my dancing
day” and urges us to enter into the dance. Why all the
merrymaking? Because “the Lord is near,” as Paul
reminds us (Philippians 4:5). He then points to another
reason for the dancing: the dawn of the promise of peace,
the peace beyond all understanding, that is now within
our grasp.

New Tax Law for 2007
We received the following bulletin from the Office of the Bishop this
week:
“Starting this year, the IRS will only allow parishioners who itemize
their tax returns to deduct their contributions if they can provide a
written parish contribution statement or copies of bank records. Unidentified cash contributions can no longer be included in tax returns.
Consequently, everyone wishing to deduct their contributions will
need to use a parish envelope, a personal check, or a direct deposit
from the bank. The parish will track these contributions and be able to
produce the required written statement for contributions made during
2007.”
In addition to parish envelope, personal checks or direct deposit from
a bank, the Pastoral Office also records credit card contributions. If
you have any questions concerning how your contributions are recorded, please contact Christine Whitten in the Pastoral Office.
Taxes and Giving at Christmas and Year's End
As our year draws to an end, have you thought of making a tax-deductible contribution that will benefit both you
and your parish? You can specify where your donation is to be applied. For example, you can apply your donation
to our Faith Formation Ministry, the Youth and Young Adults Ministry, the Building Fund or to our Church Fund.
Your generosity is always appreciated.
Your end-of-the-year donation can also have a lasting significance for your family and our parish. Last
year, a member donated our lovely bells in the memory of her husband. This year we have received generous gifts
to our Capital Campaign with designated memorial gifts. With each year, our parish heritage continues to develop.
Have your family be part of our parish tradition and be remembered in an exceptional way in the history of our
parish by making a lasting contribution. Your name and item donated will be remembered along with others in
our new permanent display in the future church.
Whatever you decide to do, your particular contribution to your parish community is and will always be
appreciated by the future generations who come to worship at the Church of the Resurrection.

Stewardship - Living in Gratitude
Administración
de los Dones de Dios
December
“Be generous, sharing what you have.”
(1 Timothy 6:18)
We are all stewards - managers of the many gifts God
has bestowed upon us. Our challenge as Christians is to
make good use of those gifts.
“Happiness lies more in giving than in receiving.”
(Acts 20:35)
Administración de los Dones de Dios
As we prepare to receive
God’s only Son as a gift,
we make ready our hearts.
We ready ourselves to share
the greatest gift of all
with our family, our friends, and
our world.
In our daily lives, we manage our family and work
responsibilities. But to become occupied with these
important matters to the exclusion of the need of others
outside our home or work, is a mistake we could carry
into eternity.
We open our hearts
so that we may go forth
as disciples of Jesus.
The coming new year provides a good time to look at
how blessed we are and to ask ourselves how we can say
“thank you” to the Lord.

Diciembre
“Ser generosos, compartiendo lo que tienen”
(1Timoteo 6:18)

December 24 – Two Special Celebrations
This year, December 24 has special meaning in the
Church liturgical calendar. For the Saturday evening and Sunday
schedule through the 12:00 Mass, we celebrate the 4th Sunday of
Advent. The evening of December 24, we begin our celebration
of Christmas. Both the celebration of the 4th Sunday of Advent
and Christmas entered us into the mystery of the Incarnation.
Please remember to attend both celebrations. If you receive Holy
Communion at a December 24 Sunday morning Mass celebrating
the 4th Sunday of Advent, you may also receive Holy Communion
that evening at one of the Christmas Eve Masses. Please contact
the Pastoral Office if you have any questions.

Palm Springs Follies…. “Gotta Dance” Spectacular!
Join us as the Fabulous Palm Springs Follies celebrates “Gotta Dance” in its all new stupendous
16th season! This year’s theme is taken from the simple realization that dance is precisely what a
dancer MUST do regardless of age. The cast – even those in their 80’s – perform up to nine
shows every week! Returning to the Follies by popular demand, is dynamic songstress Gloria
Loring whose 12th season performance was a showstopper! Most often remembers as Liz
Chandler on NBC’s Days of Our Lives, Ms. Loring also has had a #1 recording with “Friends
and Lover”s in l986. As always, the Follies entertain us with a rousing star-spangled patriotic
salute. With this trip, we will also get to celebrate the Christmas season with their added classic Follies
Yuletide spectacular! Donation includes lunch, dinner, the Fabulous Palm Springs Follies, transportation and
breakfast and evening snacks.
