RE: RTU Damper Question
Jason,
The intent of the dampers on all air streams was to totally isolate the unit if it was shut off. However, since it is a stand-alone unit and we do have the backdraft dampers at all fans, I would be agreeable to not installing the supply and exhaust motorized
dampers if you can provide a credit back to the project for the dampers and associated controls.

Subject: RTU Damper Question
Importance: High
Adam,
We have come across a discrepancy between the prints, specifications and approved RTU submittals in regards to control damper locations.
The TC drawings show control dampers on the OA, EA & SA.
1
2
The mechanical RTU details only show control dampers on the OA.
4
Specifications call for control dampers on the SA, EA, RA & OA
Approved RTU submittal only has control dampers on the OA. Gravity backdraft dampers were provided for the SA & EA.
I have attached the JCI sequence of operations and RTU diagram. Given the SA sequence of operations, I don’t see the SA damper as necessary. The exhaust air discharge is also protected by backdraft dampers at the fans so I don’t see the need for a control
damper at this location. Any dampers that are added at this point will need to be either duct mounted or mounted to the face of the RTU connection.
Please review and let me know your thoughts. We need to get the TC low voltage contractor an answer as soon as possible so please review soon.
Thanks
Jason Schneider, P.E.
