BLOOD
SAMPLE
COLLECTION
& HANDLING
INSTRUCTIONS
DRAWING THE
BLOOD SAMPLE AT
THE RIGHT TIME
IS CRITICAL.
The recommended draw volume is 3- 4 mL of blood to
generate sufficient plasma for processing the test. If the drawn
tube is not full, a redraw can be performed provided it occurs
within the specified collection window.
WARNING: For accurate MyImatinib test results, the blood
sample must be taken by venous draw.

BEGIN DOCUMENTATION
STEP 4
CENTRIFUGE SAMPLE
Centrifuge 3 - 4 mL of whole blood sample for a
minimum of 10 minutes to separate the plasma
from cells.
1. Record test name, ordering institution
and requester information.
Ideal: Centrifuge sample directly after completing the
blood draw to separate plasma.
2. Record patient, cancer type, drug information,
billing and authorization information.
Alternative: Immediately place whole blood sample
tube on wet ice or refrigerate at 2°- 8°C, then centrifuge
sample within 1 hour of the draw.
3. Record treatment timing details.
NOTE: Samples that are not centrifuged as per
these instructions may cause incorrect results.

STEP 1
FREEZE THE
TRANSPORT COLD PACK
>
– 24 HOURS BEFORE USE
NOTE:
If transport cold pack is not frozen before
time of blood draw, complete steps 1 to 5,
then freeze and hold plasma at a temperature
equal to or colder than - 20º C until
transport cold pack is frozen.
STEP 3
COLLECT SAMPLE BY VENOUS DRAW
Collect 3 - 4 mL of blood into supplied K2EDTA tube. Draw sample
after at least 29 days of imatinib therapy. On the day of collection,
draw the sample before the next dose is taken.
For once-daily dosing: Draw sample at least 21 hours from
the last dose but before the next dose.
For twice-daily dosing: Draw sample at least 9 hours from
the last dose but before the next dose.
DO NOT collect sample if patient imatinib dosing was interrupted.
DO NOT do a short draw; fill tubes until vacuum stops drawing blood.
DO NOT use plasma separator tubes.
STEP 5
CAREFULLY DRAW OFF PLASMA
from the top of the tube using the provided transfer
pipette, avoiding the cell layer, and transfer to
the cryotube.
1. Plasma must be free of cells.
2. Store plasma in the capped cryotube at
2°- 8°C prior to shipment to Saladax.
3. Freeze plasma at a temperature equal to
or colder than - 20º C for shipment greater than
1 week after collection of the sample.
4. Complete any remaining documentation.
