SAMPLE PAYSLIP EXPLANATION
General Payroll Information
This section contains your general payroll information – including the pay period that the payslip covers,
the agreement the employee is under, your employer and the date that the payment was made.
Payments for Hours Worked and Leave
This Section contains a record of all your hours worked and payment of leave, excluding payments of
any allowances and shift penalties (such as weekend or night shift penalties) as these are outlined in the following
sections. In this section it also outlines the total hours you were paid for.
Penalties
Under certain agreements penalties are paid on top of your hours worked when certain conditions are
met, these can include
• Public Holiday Worked Penalty
• Weekend Penalties
• Afternoon Shift Penalty
• Night Shift Penalty
When this happens you still receive your ordinary time payments as specified in the “Payments for Hours Worked and
Leave” section, these penalty payments are made on top of your ordinary hours payments.
Allowances
This section contains any allowances that you are entitled to under your agreement; this can include items
such as laundry, travel and tool allowances. All allowances listed under this section are taxable.
Non Taxable Allowances
Similar to the above section except all the allowances listed under this header are non taxable, this can
include allowances such as living away from home and meal allowances.
Deductions
The Deductions section contains all deductions that have been taken out of your pay. In this section there
are two columns: Before and After Tax. Before tax deductions includes items such as Salary Sacrifice where After Tax
Deductions would be things such as Child Support Payments. The tax deducted from your pay is also listed here under
the description P.A.Y.G.
