Annex A – Restrictions compared to specifications
Hardware
No restrictions.
Features / Firmware / Software
Audio over USB interface is not implemented. Feature will be implemented in a next Firmware version.
Control Plane Aiding for A-GPS is not implemented. Feature will be implemented in Firmware version 02S.
FOAT (Firmware upgrade Over AT-commands). Feature not implemented for SPI interface.
Workaround: use UART or USB interfaces to perform FOAT. The feature will be available when the
modules will be in state “Initial Production” (planned for August 2012).
When using data transfer in “Direct Link mode” on EDGE network, the data throughput is limited to
about half of the maximal data-rate of EDGE network (~100kb/s).
Configuring GPIO to work in mode “Module operating status indication” or “Module functionality
status indication” (see [2] chapter “GPIO select configuration command +UGPIOC”) is not implemented.
AT command +UCERR. The command does not function as defined in [2]. Do not use this command.
Use instead the command +CREG for the status of network registration.
Annex B – Known bugs
Network Status Indication with GPIO pin (see [3], chapter “General Purpose Input/Output (GPIO)”) does
not work according to definition when voice call is active.
Flow Control on SPI interface is not functioning as defined in specifications of SPI. This may cause loss of
data (e.g. when UDP/IP protocol is used) or slower rate of data transfer (e.g. when TCP/IP is used). Avoid
using UDP/IP protocol on SPI interface. No impact on AT-commands over SPI interfaces. AT-commands over
SPI work as specified.
SAP. When the connection to SAP server is lost during a SAP session (e.g. a Bluetooth connection is lost),
the module will terminate the SAP session correctly (issue +UUSAPMODE: 0), but the connection between
the module and the SIM-card is lost.
Workaround: when the module is reporting this URC, check the status of SIM card with AT+CPIN? If the
modules responses with +CME ERROR: SIM not inserted, issue the command AT+CFUN=15 to silent reset
the module.
AT command +UGPIOW. The command AT+UGPIOW=? returns wrong values. Avoid using this command.
AT command +CREG. If network handover (e.g. when roaming) happens while GPRS/UMTS is attached,
the module returns sequence of unsolicited:
URC +CREG:2
URC +CGREG:4
Instead of returning the sequence of unsolicited:
URC +CREG:2
URC +CGREG:2
Workaround: interpret the sequence:
URC +CREG:2
URC +CGREG:4
as an indication of the registration status.

Busy Tone”. Local generation (inside the module) of “busy tone” does not work. When network is
configured so that the module has to generate the “busy tone” locally, the user will not hear the tone.
The module will disconnect the call. To know the cause of the disconnection, issue +CEER command
(response with “cause=17” indicates called party busy).
Annex C – How to enable and configure audio codec MAX9860
To enable the digital audio interface for the codec Maxim MAX9860 (this codec is used on u-blox evaluation kits
EVK-U20-01S and RVK-U23-01S), use the following sequence of AT commands:
Command
Response
at+uextdconf=0,1
at+cpwroff
OK
OK
From now on, the digital audio interface is always enabled and the configuration is stored in non-volatile
memory.
If a new firmware is flashed on the module +UEXTDCONF need to be issued again.
