SEAL “Technical Tips” Sample Addition
:
SEAL “Technical Tips”
Sample Addition
“Sample Addition Mode” has been incorporated into AQ1 Software, allowing
the user to stop the run in progress, add samples, and restart the run.
The included example demonstrates the entire process, from the set up of the
original schedule to the completion of the restarted run to which samples have
been added.
Below is the original “Scheduling” screen where the user first schedules the
tray:

After the tray has been saved in ”Scheduling”, the run is initiated by doubleclicking the „Run‟ icon.
The “Tray Selection” screen then appears where the desired tray is selected for
analysis.
The “Options” screen then displays tick boxes where the user specifies
whether they want to auto standardize, perform water baselines, and/or
reset the reaction segment counter.

If the „Auto Standardization‟ tick box is selected from the previous screen, the
“Auto Standard Preparation” screen appears. This screen allows the user to
confirm where the blank and top standard are located. Once the user has verified
that all the information is correct, clicking „OK‟ will start the run.

Once the user clicks the „Sample Addition‟ icon, the screen shown below appears
allowing the user to choose between the following two options: “Stop at the end
of the current cycle” or “Finish all work in progress.” If “Stop at the end of the
current cycle” is selected, the AQ1 will finish the current cycle, immediately go
through its wash cycle, and stop. The samples and/or standards that were
prepared, but not aspirated, will remain in the reaction wells and will be reprepared after restarting the run. If “Finish all work in progress” is chosen, the
AQ1 will continue to aspirate and read all samples and/or standards that have
been prepared and are incubating. The AQ1 will then go through its wash cycle
and stop.

After clicking „Continue‟, the “Scheduling” screen appears which allows the user to
add samples. Both options (i.e. “Finish work in progress” and “Stop at the end of
current cycle”) allow samples to be added to the schedule while the AQ1 is
stopping.

Sample Addition
Notes:
1) New samples can only be added using this feature. AQ1 software does not
allow the user to edit or add tests to previously scheduled samples!
2) If running multiple tests on samples and if scheduling multiple tests for the
samples that are added on, please note:
If ”Sample Addition Mode” is initiated while the AQ1 is still performing Test 1 and
has not started Test 2, the AQ1 will complete the work in the following order:
a) Remaining „PND‟ samples for Test 1
b) Samples added on for Test 1
c) All samples for Test 2
If ”Sample Addition Mode” is initiated while the AQ1 is performing Test 2, after
having completed Test 1, the AQ1 will complete the work in the following order:
a) Samples added on for Test 1
b) Remaining „PND‟ samples for Test 2
c) Samples added on for Test 2
3) Neither auto-calibrants nor manual calibrants can be added to the schedule
in “Sample Addition Mode”.
4) If the frequency counting feature of QC Pro is being used for a test, the QC
Pro settings in Test Parameters must have „1‟ located in the „Start Before‟
field. This will ensure the QC is inserted prior to the first added sample.
