VACANCIES
Kabarak University invites applications from interested and suitable qualified candidates to fill
the following vacant positions in the University. The University is a Christian institution
committed to Christian principles and values and the successful candidates will be required to
uphold this value system.
ADMINISTRATIVE POSITION:
UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN-KABU 2
Personal Profile:
 Applicants should hold PhD degree or equivalent in Library and information Science
from a recognized institution and should have served as Senior Librarian or higher
position for at least five years in a large Academic Library.
 Applicants with Masters Degree in Library and Information Science with at least 10 years
experience as Senior Librarian or higher position in an Academic Library will also be
considered.
 Must be competent in relevant ICT applications, integrated library soft and e-information.
 They should show evidence of research and publications and other professional activities.
 Be a dynamic person with ability to provide effective leadership and promote teamwork.
Job Profile
Reporting to the Provost (Academic, Spiritual & Student Affairs), the successful candidate will
be responsible for continuous development and provision of efficient Library services. The
successful candidate will be responsible for:
 Overall administration, coordination and management of Library services.
 Formulation and development of Library policies to meet University goals and objectives.
 Oversee the collection, development and management of university resources leading to the
provision of relevant and up to date information resources for the academic and research
activities.
 Developing human resource through staff performance management, assisting in the staff
recruitment and selection and making recommendations for promotion and training of
library staff.
 Planning for the University physical resources and equipment as well as the information
services that will contribute towards the university goals and objectives.
TEACHING POSITIONS IN THE SCHOOL OF HEALTH SCIENCES:
We want to strengthen our staffing position within our School of Health Science. In particular we
are looking for Lecturers, Senior Lecturers and Associate Professors in the following areas:
 Clinical Medicine
 Nursing
 Pharmacy
1) Associate Professor .
For appointment into this position, applicants should be holders of PhD or equivalent
academic degree with;
a)
At least eight (8) years of University teaching experience, four (4) of which should
be at Senior Lecturer level and at least four (4) publications in refereed journals, or
one book plus two (2) articles in the relevant area since becoming Senior Lecturer;
or
b)
Fifteen (15) years of industrial/research experience five (5) of which, should be at
Senior Managerial level in the recent years, plus at least five (5) publications in
refereed journals.
2) Senior Lecturer .
For appointment into this position, applicants will be required to have a PhD degree or its
academic equivalent in the relevant field with at least three (3) years of teaching
experience in the position of a lecturer at University level and continued research as
evidenced by at least three (3) publications in refereed journals.
3) Lecturer.
For appointment into this position, applicants should:
a) Hold a PhD Degree or its academic equivalent in the relevant field;
or
b) Hold a Masters Degree in the relevant field with at least three (3) years of University
as an Assistant Lecturer and continued research as evidenced by at least two (2)
publications in refereed journals(s) in the relevant area.
For all applicants for the above teaching positions, one should be registered and have
current valid practicing license from respective regulatory body.
REMUNERATION AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Appointments to the above positions will be on permanent and pensionable following a
satisfactory probation period of six (6) months. A competitive compensation package will be
offered to successful candidates. In addition to teaching and academic management, successful
candidates for the teaching positions will be expected to drive research, consultancy and
outreach. They are also expected to provide inspired and innovatory subject leadership and
mentorship to students.
