PEZZAZ COACHES WORK WITH PREMIERSHIP STARS!
Pezzaz Street Soccer coaches, Perry Cocking and Geoff Bonner, were recently asked to work with Southampton
and England international Jay Rodriguez at Southampton FC’s newly refurbished Staplewood training ground. Jay
is recovering from a cruciate knee ligament injury which unfortunately saw the Premiership star miss the World
Cup. Jay is determined to return to the Premiership in the best condition of his life and a better player than he
was before the injury. We were asked to put together a ball work training programme for him that he could work
on as part of his rehabilitation. Perry Cocking had put together a similar programme for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
(now Arsenal FC) back in 2011. We based Jay’s training plan around the 20 Pezzaz Core Skills that we regularly
work on with the children. The first session was a great success. Development squad player Bevis Mugabi joined
in to make it competitive and Gaston Ramirez, who has since joined Hull City on loan, asked if he could join in
after seeing what type of things we were doing. The session was filmed and Jay follows the programme routinely
using the video played through the big screen in the training ground gymnasium. Jay also asked us to show him
some moves to help him gain a yard of space in tight areas to get a shot away. We showed him various moves
from our Skillz to Beat & Deception Moves syllabus topic and we are looking forward to seeing moves such as; the
reverse flip-flap, the chop, roll-step-robana, the slamover (and many more!) in the Premiership soon!
HOLIDAY COURSES
We had a great summer period with holiday courses in Salisbury and
Andover as well as an extremely popular Tournament Day. We have
holiday courses at Winton Community Academy reserved right through to
the summer of 2015 and beyond. Our next course is the October halfterm where this signed Jay Rodriguez picture will be given away!
A GREAT START TO 2014/15!
2014/15 has got off to a great start with almost 200 children attending our
new Kick-Start groups, Player Development Centres (PDCs) and Match-Play
sessions. We spent the summer redesigning our coaching syllabus and PDCs
now spend six weeks concentrating on an individual topic with Medals of
Achievement handed out to all the players on the sixth week of each topic.
Kick-Start sessions follow a slightly different version of the topics and are
awarded a Certificate of Achievement on the sixth session of each topic. Due
to the new scheme all players must now block book with new players being
put on a waiting list when the sessions reach their quota. Pay-as-you-play and
part bookings are still possible with prior consent and are dependent on
available space. Match-Play sessions are for our older age groups and are payas-you-play with no commitment. These sessions are designed for children to
play matches in a pressure free environment and for them to express
themselves and try things that they might not be able to do in their club or
school games.
INTRODUCING MINI-KICKZ (PRE-SCHOOL FOOTBALL SESSIONS)
We have been busy putting together a hugely fun coaching
scheme for pre-school children. We will be launching these
sessions at various locations in and around Salisbury & Andover
very soon. The first sessions to launch will be for children who
will be starting reception year in September 2015. If these
sessions are of interest then please contact us for more
information and we can add your child to our list of budding
young pre-school footballers.
SCHOOLS FOCUS
Please look out for Geoff, Jacob and Phil at various local schools delivering our ever expanding schools coaching
programme. Pezzaz Street Soccer is currently working at; Woodford Valley, Clatford School, Greentrees Primary,
Broad Chalke School, Harrow Way School, Wellington Primary, Wilton Primary and Coombe Bissett. We plan on
organising an inter-schools tournament for all the schools we are involved with early in 2015.
PJC ACADEMY NEWS
A busy summer programme saw the PJC Academy squads play matches against Chelsea FC, AFC Bournemouth,
Arsenal Soccer Schools and Bath & Wiltshire Boys. Two of our long standing players also officially signed for
professional clubs. The PJC Soccer Academy is open to all children and not just Pezzaz Street Soccer attendees.
