HOW TO GET THROUGH WHAT YOU’RE GOING THROUGH: What if each week we gathered small pieces of parchment paper, handed out in each program, opportunity to return those in the offering bag, write down the words that signify what they are struggling with, that they
need to get through… then those pieces were assembled into a book that was used in week 4 of the talk - as an example of 1) here are all our stories of struggles 2) use the pain to build your faith, 3) you are not alone! Get in a group! - Add to this the notion of a concerted effort
to have Prayer teams staffed with SG Leaders for weeks 3 and 4 at the end of the service that if you’d like specific prayer for your stuff, to encourage the “you are not alone” concept. - Graphic Idea: Light/Dark, Black/White, negative space, desert - We like the ones that are using
color, trying to avoid B&W - Desert, negative space - mess with perspective, see the cracks of the desert floor and can’t tell if it’s a cavernous space or just a sliver. - I Am by Crowder - Your Promises by Elevation - Have small group leaders available for prayer each week. Especially
week 3 and 4. - Trouble Won’t Go by Enter the Worship Circle - In the Hours by Indelible Grace - Oft in Sorrow by Indelible Grace - Let Me Find Thee by Indelible Grace - It Is Well by Hillsong Chapel - Psalm 121 by All Sons and Daughters - It is Well - Bethel - Song: Fix My Eyes - For

Heart Break - The Brilliance (Very honest cry - asking God if he feels our pain) - Time of Reflection - take the quotes from pg. 2 (the “Important Perspective Before We Write”) and cast those on the screen - very simply white words on black - giving people the opportunity to read and
reflect on a selection of quotes as a response to the message. Intertwine with it that weeks supporting Scripture. Acoustic music can be playing softly in the background. - Bumper - Write on paper - quotes on suffering - famous quote. Each week is three different ones. Kind of
like stories of hope video. They separate and fall, - become the cracked desert of the graphic. Song: Trouble by Imagine Dragons - Song: Wasteland (live version) - NEEDTOBREATHE - Song: Desert Song - Dark Horses by Switchfoot - Song: I Still Believe - Jeremy Camp - This song is
about Jeremy losing his wife to cancer at the age of 24. Could possibly share this story or one like it along with the song. - Song: Everybody Hurts - REM - Song – Is There Anybody Out There, Pink Floyd, could be cool with a bumper or opening moment - Song – You’ll Be Okay by
A Great Big World - Song: Silence by Jars of Clay - Song: Cure for the Pain by Jon Foreman - Song - Jesus Take the Wheel, Carrie Underwood - Song - If You’re Going Through Hell, Rodney Atkins - Song: Rise Above This (Seether) - Song - Wake Me Up by Avicci - Brene Brown Video
Clip - “Haunted House” Ellen video: In the introduction of the message, we’d like an edited (shortened) version of this clip. We’re talking about how when we’re facing scary things in our lives, we often just want to “get through” them and instinctively we grab onto whatever we
can to help us deal with our fear (in this case, the nearest person). Try to clip the parts where the guy grabs onto the woman and hides behind her. - Original Song: Shkendie - Psalm 13 - performed at Edgewater - “Unfailing Love” - Song: Chandelier - Sia - Song: Pain - Jimmy Eat
World - Song – The Monster by Eminem ft. Rhianna - Song – I’ll Be Your Shelter, Housemartins - Song – We Believe in God, Amy Grant - Song - Safe and Sound by Capital Cities - Song Medley: Don’t You Worry Child/Beautiful Day - A guy I went to college with sang this medley at
Northpoint on Easter - Song: Walk By Faith - Jeremy Camp - Song: You are Not Alone - Michael Jackson - Song: House of God Forever by Jon Foreman - Video: National Lampoon’s “Vacation.” The intro of the talk is going to be a humorous take on suffering through family vacations.
I think we will tell the story of the mishaps of a family on vacation (without revealing we’re referring to the Griswolds) and then go to this clip of the family arriving at Wally World only to find it closed. Cut the clip at the point where Clark punches the statue in the nose. - Song:
Sun & Moon by Phil Wickham - Song: We’re All in This Together - Ben Lee - Song: A Life Less Ordinary (Need a Little Help) - Communion Song: Take My Life - Movie Clip - Rocky IV - talking to his younger son, inspirational and motivating speech - Video: in the second Hobbit movie,
we find the company lost in Mirkwood, but then Bilbo climbs above the treeline to find the sun, and their way. - Take Me to the King by Tamela Mann - My Life is in Your Hands by Kirk Franklin - The focus of week 4 is on not wasting our pain...allowing God to use our suffering to
make a difference in the lives of others. - Funny video idea: Someone keeps getting hurt. (stubs toe, paper cut, football to the head…) Instead of the usual anger/curse words, they say “God bless it!” - Video Clip: Dodgeball: If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball - Song:
Demons - Imagine Dragons - Song: Brother - NEEDTOBREATHE - Video: Louis CK tells a story of horrible suffering (albeit about his dog), and is still somehow funny - Video – Suffering can be funny, narcolepsy youtube funny - Song – Joy and Pain, Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock - Song - In
Repair by John Mayer (Eli & Pat) - Story: Rachel’s Charity Water Campaign
MASTERPIECE: Graphic idea: Empty ornate wooden frame with the words “Your portrait here” printed in the middle. On the bottom left is the word “Masterpiece” written like an artist’s signature. - Mosaic graphic - bunch of images from CCC (use #cccbeautiful) Each week the image
is developed more - final week you see the image. What is this image? Ideas: Jesus, crown of thorns - Same idea as above, but its framed. First week is just frame, black background, with center tile - label that says (masterpiece). Each week more images are added. - Photos from
the church form the words Masterpiece. Background is a canvas look. Landscape vs portrait. Portrait would have an art gallery background. - Short animation of brush strokes over a white canvas - word Masterpiece appears. - Bumper idea: “Masterpiece Theatre” style intro, with
the book of Ephesians and pictures of Jesus in frames highlighted. - Graphic Idea: Mosaic of photos of all different people (Community attenders from every campus?) forming one picture--the cross, Jesus, “masterpiece”, etc - *Each campus could make their own mosaic using a
website like this one: http://mosaically.com/ - Set design: Empty large picture frames everywhere on the stage, hanging, placed, etc. - added bonus for Mother’s Day: set up a portrait gallery to get a picture with mom holding a large frame - Would love to see a different art form
featured each week somehow (Dance, visual art, video, music, acting, literature) Not sure how that would work yet, but most (if not all) of the associations with masterpieces are creative in nature - Set idea: potter’s wheel, and a continually forming piece of pottery. each week the clay
is molded further and further into a masterpiece. - No Longer Slaves by Bethel Music - Could be a great new worship tune, or a special for week 2. Beautiful video as well. - Something Beautiful - NEEDTOBREATHE - Dove Commercial - Stop Animation Video (It’s a Homerun I think):
Your Identity In Christ - Turn the Screen into a giant picture by Framing the screen to look like an old painting. - Video idea – Bring back the AT&T Parody for a special Mother’s Day message from Community. We can do better than this: Opening line: “What’s better: Mom or Dad?”
Commercial – “Here’s to the Moms” by Google - Video – a message from Mr. T, YouTube - Video/Song – “Treat your Mother Right” by Mr. T. (could be a welcome video, opener) - Video – Jimmy Kimmel clip “What’s the worst thing you ever heard your mommy say?” - Video – “Who’s
Your Favourite?” on YouTube (could be a welcome video, opener) - Song: Masterpiece by Jessie J - Song: Try by Colbie Caillat - Song – “Masterpiece” by Jazmine Sullivan - Video: Dove Real Beauty Sketches (can’t remember if we’ve already show this, but would be awesome to show
and maybe add at the end “you are a masterpiece”) - Song: Firework - Katy Perry (MN) Acoustic version: - Song: Beautiful -Christine Aguilerra - Song: Who Says - Selena Gomez - Book: You are special by Max Lucado. This is a great children’s book about a wooden character who
continues to get “bad” labels, but they fall off when he meets Eli, the toy maker. Somehow use a section of it? - DORI shared this story at Blast - big hit - Combine this idea with the “pass out stickers” idea - Video idea: montage of videos with “masterpieces” like Ghost pottery, Ferris
Bueller art gallery scene, Karate Kid “paint the fence.” Just something funny to start the series. - Upon entry pass out stickers to people with the titles “nerd” “geek” “rich” “poor’ etc. There’s a time in the message where the teacher references the sticker and talks about identity and
instructs people to remove the sticker. Upon exit people pick up a sticker with the word “Masterpiece” on it. - Kids Video - “What’s your favorite thing about mom? - Who are you by The Who - Who did you think I was by John Mayer - In Christ Alone - Grace so Glorious - As by Stevie
Wonder (Nichole Nordeman version maybe) - Helplessness Blues by Fleet Foxes - Third Day - This is Who I Am - Oh Mother Of Mine - “Beautiful” by James Blunt - Beautiful Things – I Am Free - Poetic [live] reading of Psalm 139:13-18 with video display of life in the womb (utilize
excerpts from National Geographic in the Womb)[Follow with] “Always” by Switchfoot - Identity Story (Possible Video?) In the message, we want a story of a mom who struggled with her identity but is finding a new path as she tries to live into her identity as a child of God. I’m going
to be asking Mary Leddon (who leads a number of groups that address this) if there is one great story that’s emerged from her ministry. If we get something that’s awesome, could we consider a video testimony? - The Mom Song - Song – “Jesus Loves the Little Children of the World”
Rebecca St. James style: - Song: Who We Are - Switchfoot - Song: Identity - Kutless (this song is so cheesy but it fits...maybe a slower version for Communion) - Song: Who Are You? - The Who - I Know Who I Am - Israel/Tomlin - Song: Sister Sledge - We Are Family - Song: I’m Not
Who I Was - Brandon Heath - Song: We Are - Kari Jobe (if you haven’t used it yet recently) - Song: Who I Am In You - Addison Road - Remember the Titans Clip - VIDEO - people from all backgrounds reading Eph. 2:16-19 - if not in the message, could be used in the bridge of a song
too. Look at different translations and pick one - What’s Going ON by Marvin Gaye - Maybe mix with MLK I have a Dream speech in video - The Writer by Ellie Golding - Worship Song: Marvelous Light – 1 Peter 2:9 - Song: Masterpiece by Jessie J - Song: Name - Goo Goo Dolls Interactive worship moment: give all attenders a mosaic piece, a broken piece - each service thru communion comes up front to bring their piece to the cross - build a frame that contains the mosaic pieces into a cross frame - a work of art - Song: Progress - Mute Math - Song: Work
In Progress - Alan Jackson - Flaws - Bastille - Helplessness Blues by Fleet Foxes - The Cave by Mumford ‘n Sons - The Skit Guys “Chisel” - Worship Song: Take My Life - Philippians 1:6 - The Church by Elevation Worship - Song: We Come Running - Youngblood Hawke - Song: Build your
Kingdom Here - Rend Collective - Song: I Lived - OneRepublic - LOTR - Fellowship Scene - Communal Art Project - Foil Ball Idea: give each person a small piece of foil. Word of “God” comes in from the sky, “I want you, my children, to make a FOIL BALL. Teacher/host walks through
the dilemma. I can’t do that by myself, but if I hand my foil to you, and you hand it to her, and she hands it to him, then by the time you get to the end, we can altogether make a foil ball - but we can’t do it by ourselves. - Same idea as week 4, but be specific about the five gifts, with
color or shape, and each time you are putting that piece in a specific place -Interactive worship moment: give all attenders a mosaic piece, a broken piece - each service thru communion comes up front to bring their piece to the cross - build a frame that contains the mosaic pieces
into a cross frame - a work of art - Beautiful Things – Gather photographs of local church members and utilize in ProPresenter as background during chorus of song (or run lyrics along bottom of photographs) - APEST Assessment: A brief APEST assessment tool that we’ll have people
take during the message (kind of like we did once with the 5 Love Languages tool...didn’t we do that?). This will help people begin to think about how they’ve been gifted. 100 Pianos Creative Moment - We could go in a number of directions: 1) Just use the 100 Pianos quote by
A.W. Tozer in the conclusion as a way to end the talk and lead into Communion. Here is the quote: “Has it ever occurred to you that one hundred pianos all tuned to the same fork are automatically tuned to each other? They are of one accord by being tuned, not to each other, but to
another standard to which each one must individually bow. So one hundred worshipers met together, each one looking away to Christ, are in heart nearer to each other than they could possibly be, were they to become ‘unity’ conscious and turn their eyes away from God to strive
for closer fellowship.” – A.W. Tozer, The Pursuit of God 2) Use the quote and pair it with a video we find. I’m not sure if the one Docent pointed us to would work but maybe there is some other music video out there (with pianos) that could be used. 3) Use the quote and create our
own original video to go with it. This could be something like we’ve done before where you see people (probably on keys) playing at our various campus locations and when you put them all together it creates one powerful piece. Or it could be something where we film a bunch
of pianists all in one room. Or???? - Song: War Inside - Switchfoot - Song: This is War - Thirty Seconds to Mars - Song: Do you know the Enemy? - Green Day - Song: Courageous - Casting Crowns - Inviting the Power team to do some awesome stuff during the service - Not Strong
Enough by Matthew West - Lord of the Rings clips: Gandalf charging towards Helm’s Deep, Theoden showing up at Minas Tirith after he says he would not ride to Gondor’s aid - On Our Side - Whom Shall I Fear [God of Angel Armies] - Exalted One - Elevation Worship - The Solid Rock
ANCIENT PRACTICES: Bumper Idea: could be a video montage, like the baptism one we did, showing attenders, in baptism, communion, worship, praying etc...maybe interspersed with clips from The Bible miniseries showing the “ancient” practices as well. - Gregorian chants
in background of bumper - Graphics: Indiana Jones Style? - Overall series singalong: “Fall Afresh” by Bethel - Overall series idea: incorporate some ancient (or at least ancient-ish) instruments and music into our sets: lute, dulcimer, flute, bodhran (irish drum), harp, panpipes,
recorder; find a way to incorporate ancient music practice like Gregorian chant/plainsong? - We could also highlight historic/ancient worship practices like hand raising, kneeling in prayer, etc (interesting article about ancient worship practices) - Bumper idea: “Sunday on the
Run(day)” – We follow a family thru the start of their day in super fast motion. It’s Sunday morning, but everything is fast and furious. Each member of the family is seen using high-tech, flashy, super convenient, modern gadgets and technology: Alarm clock, fit bit, shower radio,
coffee maker, newspaper on tablet, microwaved breakfast, car with GPS, and any other modern-day conveniences that help get us out the door and on our way. All of this part of the story is told in super fast motion, with appropriate music that suddenly changes, when everything
restores to normal speed as the family walks into church. It’s an old traditional church, like SSPP, and as the family walks in and steps into a slower and more traditional reality, the camera circles around them, ending on the cross. - Bumper idea - imagery of how our current
practices engage with the past. Person of the past reading the bible on an old scroll crossfades through time to someone of today reading scripture from their iphone. Could be in a style similar to the Noah movie clip showing - Bumper idea - similar to above idea. have someone
walking on a treadmill, on green screen. Shoot them in different time period costumes, as many as we can. Biblical, medieval, renaissance, monk, puritan, etc, as many time periods as we can get to modern day. Final product would be a silhouette of the actor, quick cuts to show
a progression through time - similar to the Noah video clip above. As for the background - could move through time, or maybe not. Might just be a simple scenic landscape background. Bumper would end on the title graphic. Could make one for each week “Ancient Practices Baptism” etc. Title graphic could be simple. - Add media folder on google drive that is of stained glass imagery, old church - b-roll imagery to use behind songs etc. - Someone walking in with a bible - different time period montage
Calvin Johnson 2012 Acura Commercial on Youtube. Simple - Lean heavier on Hymns and Creeds - Lectio Divina - A New Liturgy: Aaron Niequist’s music journey - Sandra McCracken’s new record Psalms: - Use old instruments for worship - or use Apps on ipad’s that emulate old
instruments - Worship House Media has some cool backgrounds like this...I think it would be cool to play on this “old church” motif. - Scenic Design ideas - LOTS of candles and sacred music as people arrive. Maybe a stained glass center piece or something - Stage Design - stage
filled with ancient looking artifacts like clay vases, urns, wooden basins, etc - Campuses should promote baptism classes this weekend and date of next baptism celebration - Even today - right after service, have a class available. - Changed by Rascal Flatts - Baptism Picture Reel from
each campus (Animoto would be easy and very doable for this). Maybe behind the TP as a moment of remembrance for those who have been baptized. - Video: Baptism By the Water Cooler (old Community video) - could use the water cooler as the baptism tool with a new script.
The classic video linked above is more about inviting people to church. But I would love to dump another entire water cooler bottle on someone. Perhaps combine with sketch idea: “What Baptism Isn’t” - PSA style infomercial. - History of Worship music set - (Look up old Bill Carroll
service.) - Song: “Beneath the Waters (I Will Rise) by Hillsong - “I Will Follow” by Tomlin - Carrie Underwood “Something in the Water” - Clip from “O Brother Where Art Thou” where Delmar gets baptized - “I believe in Science” clip from Nacho Libre - Self Baptism Kit Redux? - Song:
“Take me to the river” by the Talking Heads - Song: “Down to the River” by Ray LaMontagne - Song: “Down to the River” by Paul McCartney - No food or coffee that day - Too Much Food by Jason Mraz - Create in Me by Rend Collective OR a rearranged version of the hymn - Song:
“Our Father” by Hillsong - Weird Al “Eat It” - Campus picks a day to do a fast from food and break the fast by eating dinner together. Could do a smaller version by encouraging small groups to fast and break it together. - even fast right after service - fast for lunch today. - Pick a
date(s) that is leading up to SUS to fast for the fall promotion. - Sketch idea: “Slowing” – guy doesn’t believe in fasting, he prefers to eat without ceasing, and very slowly. - Song – “Hunger Strike” by Temple of the Dog - Song/PC – “Hungry” by David Crowder - Song - “Too Much”
by DMB - House of God Forever by Jon Foreman - Teaching Note: would love to see some talk of the word Selah. Very cool concept that has been used and talked about in the worship world and explored on a couple Hillsong Albums. Would love to see moments where attenders
got to rest during service with some background music. Thinking about even underscoring the entire service that week with music. - Special Song: Below My Feet - Mumford & Sons - Video: Sesame Street - I Take A Rest - Possibly a funny video to insert into the teaching - Clip from
Ferris Bueller showing what Sabbath should/shouldn’t look like - Sabbath Stories: different stories of people pursuing rest, what that looks like in their life - Take communion in silence as a short time to practice resting in God’s presence. We did this to end our Good Friday service
and it was powerful. - Rest by Matt Maher - An interview with my wife - JB - she’s been pursuing and doing really well with sabbath and taught a class at Connections and has 2 young kids and works. - Song: “Welcome, Welcome Day of Rest” - Interesting News story - Song: “Rest
of the Day Off” by Neil Finn - Song: “Go Rest High on that Mountain” by Vince Gill - Song: Psalm 116 (You Turned my Soul to Rest) - Have a meal after church together -that is true communion together - Rip and dip communion - Extended communion time - Thank You Jesus by

for this series by using a concept Andy Stanley introduced: Decisions - Direction - Destination- The destination we’re after is for every person to be growing as a Christ-follower. The directions we believe best facilitate that are the 3Cs (Upward, Toward, Outward). Decisions are the
specific things we’re going to challenge you to to take next steps in the 3Cs. We’re planning on referencing this overall concept for the series in every message. Dave wondered if there was some way to visually illustrate this in the bumper with the Eddy showing how as the
3Cs start moving in our life, they lead us in the fourth direction...forward. - “How I Connect with God” Video: Compilation video of 10-12 people (possibly staff) answering the question: “How do you best connect with God?” in 10-15 seconds each. The idea is to illustrate various
“sacred pathways.” If we use staff, some people we talked about: Kirsten Strand (serving), Tony Germann (nature), Tammy Melchien (contemplation/journaling), Patrick O’Connell (intellectual)... There are nine sacred pathways. Naturalist, Sensate, Traditionalist, Ascetics, Activists,

The TP adds some “bricks” with ways we build walls on it. During a song after the teaching we knock the wall down. - Walls Down by Highlands Worship:

BIG IDEA SERIES
SOME OF THE ARTISTS WHO FTWBTG IN 2014-2015
(could work out after wall building) - Babel by Mumford & Sons (could work out after wall building) - Testimony Video (Requested by Teaching Team): Testimony (preferably from a guy) about how he got real/vulnerable with someone in his Small Group and that led to a deepening of friendship/connection. Team): “The Wall” by Gloria Jay Evans. Picture book parable. Use the images from the book and a voiceover of edited content to create a 3-4 minute story. Come up with a good question to tell people to ask, or thing to tell about themselves. - Connect
Moment/Small Group Push in service - Vulnerable by Secondhand Serenade - Song – “Connect” by Sick Puppies - Song – “Numb” by Lincoln Park - Sketch/Video – “Man Card” – about a man not wanting to be vulnerable, maybe it is a phone call to a help line (like the Discover commercials) or maybe it’s a AA type meeting, VA = Vulnerables Anonymous, or maybe an Old Spice parody – Song
- “One” by U2 - Song - “King of Anything” - by Sarah Bareilles - Song - “Babel” by Mumford & Sons - Compassion Child Sponsorship Video: Since this is the week we’ll be trying to get 400 kids sponsored, we’d like to use a video about child sponsorship as part of the challenge in the message. Teaching Team
decided we’d like to have 5-7 minutes of the talk (the all-church part) be video of Dave with the first part being the same for all campuses and the last minute or two being campus specific where Dave talks about how he has seen God do “more than we can ask or imagine” at each individual campus. - Quote from Dave when we were 3 locations - referenced in Podcast: I believe that one day

RELATIVELY SPEAKING: Series Graphic Idea (if not already made) Old school family sitcom graphics. Relatively speaking sounds like it should be a sitcom - Bumper - 70’s sitcom intro. fake song in the style of a sitcom intro. Lands on series graphic that looks like a sitcom. Bumper for each week, would land on “this week’s episode - Thank you” - Song – “Words” by Hawk Nelson - Live Improv
games – ask for relationship to start the scene - Song - “Words” by Gregory Alan Isakov - Song- “Words” by Train - May the Words of My Mouth by Shane2 - Man on the Street Video - pattern after Billy Eichner who did the MOS interview on the Emmys - Soap Opera type video. Four characters - each one only says one of the words/phrases for the series - No, I Understand, I Love you, Thank
You. - Bumper - Make up clips that in the 70’s TV show style - characters are using the words / phrases of the series. Mom sitting on the bed with daughter, saying, “I understand.” Compose our own theme song - sitcom, 70’s style for this series. Bumper is all four - same song, same clips. Ends with “today’s episode is, ____” Don’t want every relationship situation to be a part of the same
nuclear family. Its about relationships - not just family. Shrink, Boss, school friends. Each week is a different intro? Different situation. Not any word is assigned to any one character. Changes each week. Popcorn, a lot of different clips from 3 - 4 locations. Each week we see four or five of these. Maybe not different people each time. Its a mixture. - Location - In front Buckingham fountain. Like
Married with Children - Series Graphic - people - frozen, overlay of the words. Cast of the fake sitcom. Like Growing Pains. Series graphic should have more of a dated, 70’s background with the same font / text treatment that will be used in the bumper. - Any scene in “Yes Man” with Jim Carrey - Song: Nobody But Me by The Human Beinz - Video idea - “Dude” commercial parody substituting
the word “NO” (could do this for each week with ) - Song – “Great Big No” by The Lemonheads - Video - Never say no to Panda - Rent a panda costume- Will be in the message - Video clip – Steve Jobs says “no” - Have people practice saying “no” in certain situations during message. - Video: Dikembe Mutombo geico commercial - Sketch Idea - A guy is bold telling his co-workers how he will tell
his boss NO the next thing he asks and then each time he buckles and says yes right away. Leads to him working lots of overtime and time away from his family, etc. - Kids saying “no” compilation - A fake Spanish soap opera where people dramatically look at the camera and say “Si” or “No”. Overly dramatic - “Say” by John Mayer - Have John Blumburg do a section of the teaching on video for
all campuses (or BZ) - “Impulse Man” – video about a guy who never says no to any of his desires. It starts off funny…he eats an entire bag of chips, jay-walks, etc BUT can get crazier and crazier as time goes on. - Clip from Office Space w/ the guy with the red stapler just getting walked on and not saying no. - Comcast Bad Customer Service: Choose 30-60 seconds of this clip that best illustrates
how the customer service rep is not listening to the customer. We do not want the name of the company “Comcast” to be in this clip. - Bumper to blackout - “You Just Don’t Get It, Do You” Movie Montage. Can be cut down to 1 minute and obviously remove inappropriate scenes - Song – “I Understand” by Herman’s Hermits - Video clip – Rush Hour “do you understand the words that are coming
out of my mouth?” - Song – “Do You Understand?” by The Almighty - Song - “Spirit Speaks” by All Sons & Daughters. Might be good for Communion - Song - Behind the Scenes by Francesca Battistelli. - Song - More Heart, Less Attack by NEEDTOBREATHE. - Nobody’s Listening by Linkin’ Park - “I just called to say I love you” by Stevie wonder - Song – “Silly Love Songs” by Paul McCartney - Elf
Clip - “I love you” [Clip from Elf when he meets his dad] - Video: How He Loves story video… good love language - Go from message, into video into Communion moment. Video needs to be cut down. - Love Runs Out - One Republic (pre-message or prelude) - Song - “More than words” by Extreme - How He Loves by DCB - Addicted to Love by Robert Palmer - Audio Clip: Need 90 seconds of
the Tonight Show “Thank You Note” music to be used near the end of the talk during the response moment. This could be done live with a keyboard player, but should have an audio clip for campuses that can’t make that happen. - Have people write down 10 things they are thankful for (say THANK YOU) Handout for campuses Tweet what you are thankful for. #cccgratitude - Write a thank-you
note to someone during the service. - Song - “Kind and Generous” - Natalie Merchant - Song – “Thank You” by Dido- Thank You Notes - Jimmy Fallon - maybe TP, or actor does thank you note parody - Could be the intro to the talk. Actual Jimmy Fallon, or live on stage using TP/CP Careful of inside jokes. Maybe start off with Jimmy Fallon clip, while that is going on, TP / CP gets ready at desk,
putting on jacket, then goes live. Investigate to see if there are Jimmy Fallon Thanksgiving ones he has done in the past. - Song - “Thankful” by Kelly Clarkson - Song - “Thank You” by Boyz II Men - Thank you for hearing me by David Crowder Band
HOPE FOR EVERYONE: Christmas Time Is Here by the Chipmunks - Performed live...use a pitch shifter pedal - Worship songs - “God With Us” by All Sons - “Love Came Down” by Bethel/Jeremy Riddle - Worship Song : “All My Hope Is In You” by Hillsong - Something In The Water - Carrie Underwood - I’ve Found a Love by Bethel- Nothing But the Blood (Citizens Version) - Relentless- Hillsong - We
Rejoice - Song - Hope In Front of Me by Danny Gokey - The Christmas story told by children: - Song - Michael Olson - God is With Us - Or we could make our own, recording Kids telling the Christmas story, and then having Adults act it out - Bumper or Week One video idea, Serious Video Narrative: 3 people, they are disappointed, they don’t understand their purpose, they are fearful, they are
hopeless. Perhaps they are all runners, outdoor shots, they reach “the edge” of hope, they’re out of breath, and they’re looking for answers. We don’t know their individual stories or situations, but we hear their subtext spoken aloud as VO – Waiting, Expecting, Hoping. Have I done something wrong? Why are you punishing me? What can I possibly learn from this? - Guy getting off the train
and stops. Everyone around him is moving quickly. Guy getting off the train, and stops or in real time. Everyone is moving slowly. Everyone around him is in black and white. Main person has color - Person looks up, person looks to the horizon. Look to the star? Similar to the Adventure series - but takes place in the city. Create b-roll video from this video that would work behind songs. Song: Everywhere to Me - Scenarios: El Train, Cab, Driving to work, Someone working at a skyscraper looks out the window, airport, See the star, that takes them on the journey that takes them to the sunrise. Series Graphic- Plays off of the idea of the star. Not Christmas cheesy. - FDR quote: We have always held to the hope, the belief, the conviction that there is a better life, a better world,
beyond the horizon. - Christmas Carol Covers - Future of Forestry - Christmas with Weezer - Bumper using general quotes of Hope, VO with footage/pics then move into Bible verses on Hope. - Man on the Street - Asking “What do you Hope for this Christmas” , Maybe the person asking questions dressed as Santa. - This is hilarious, and must be watched: Bethlehemian Rhapsody - Kids
Opening Christmas Presents: Videos showing kids reactions to opening gifts. We wanted one showing excitement and one showing disappointment. - National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation scene - Clip when Clark flips when he doesn’t get the bonus. Only could use if edit out the profanity! - Movie Clip Referenced in Podcast - Ending of Money Ball - Brad Pitt trying to decide to take the job
in Boston or stay in California, listens to a song his daughter recorded for him - Song - The Show by Lenka could work too (song from Moneyball - could be an opener) - Worship Song: In the Secret- throwback for worship. Maybe do a new arrangement leading into a hymn or carol - Last Hope by Paramore - Only Hope by Caedmon’s Call - Only Hope by Switchfoot - Doubting Thomas by Nickel
Creek (before teaching or in the middle of it) - Silent Night…? - Reason to Sing by All Sons & Daughters - Problem song - Silence by Jars of Clay - could/should be more of a moment than just a performance song - I Will Wait by Mumford - Be Still by The Fray - High - Young Rising Sons - Rolling in the Deep - Adele (use the clean, radio version) - Hope - Jack Johnson (problem song) maybe
video ideas to go with? - Silent Movie paired with Dustin Kensrue’s “This Good Night Is Still Everywhere to Me” Live - During message - Prayer/Moment of Silence during service (2 minutes-ish) - Signs held by attenders that reflect the disappointment they are dealing with, but hoping in Jesus. - Jesus is getting them through it. Could come on stage during a song. - Clip w/n message – “Don’t
Speak” from Bullets over Broadway (found footage of the angel appearing to Zechariah) - Song – James Arthur, “Impossible” - Plan ‘B’ Story: Teaching Team is looking for a story for this message where a person’s Plan ‘A’ didn’t work out but in the end what turned out to be Plan ‘B’ (or ‘C’ or ‘D’) ended up being God’s Plan ‘A’ for his/her life. If this ends up being a story about a COMMUNITY attender,
we might want it to be captured as a video testimony. - Sketch/Video - “But We’re Bible Characters!” - Stories retold in a modern way, but in biblical garb. Everytime the characters are faced with the unexpected, they react by saying, “But we’re Bible characters!” and they do the thing that the Bible says they should do, reacting in the expected way. - Live or video game show sketch - Define,
Defeat, Develop - contestants are presented with real-life curveballs, and they can either choose to let it Define, Defeat, or Develop them. 9 out of 10 times, they will choose “Define” or “Defeat”, and give a ridiculous peak into their rationale, revealing (and poking fun at) the ways we tend to respond to difficulty. e.g. “[With a smile] I’m going to let that Define me, Bob. I’m going to hold on to
this job loss for a couple of years, and focus my ambitions on developing my storm trooper outfit and avoiding my mother. I’ll probably even take up heavy drinking!” - Super Cut of the Mythbusters Duct Tape Episode: Shows a TON of ways that Duct Tape can be used for different things. - VIDEO - Gift Mart story? - Has someone found their purpose through gift mart who wasn’t expecting it?

I wish none of this had ever happened…’So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to
decide is what to do with the time that is given to us...” - Have something unexpected happen during the service - Flash mob, or maybe a dialog begins between attenders that everyone can hear, or maybe its technical. Vocalist forgets the words and other band members chip in to help? - 28 Chicago Fears: Pick 5-7 of these pictures as a humorous intro into the Big Idea. - Teaching content - list
of Christmas phobias - Video - Face Your Fear - A Christmas Themed Fear Factor type video. Maybe a man on the street style video asking Christmas shoppers to do or think about something slightly scary or nerve wracking. Would you eat this fruit cake from 2013? poor & powerless (into) Go Tell it on the Mountain- Everyone Needs a Little - Kari Jobe - Hope In Front of Me - Danny Gokey (maybe put click behind lyric video) - Would be great to have an intentional invite for the next series to give out to attenders since the message will have a strong call to invite - Song – The Script “Superheroes” - Song – Alesso “Heroes (We Could Be)” A QUESTIONABLE LIFE: Series Graphic Idea: Letters that look like this -- maybe saying “?LIFE” as the logo. We could tie this into the bumper using a stage, light/darkness, people asking questions, - Word Treatment? - Question Mark only? - Question mark upside down - Like “A Questionable Life” at a title - not just part of it. Something with hashtags - Game show type of look - like Jeopardy - Just
a question mark - Make the question mark out of the words “A Questionable Life” - Live Like That by Sidewalk Prophets - Jesus Freak by DC Talk - Reflection moment/questions following every message; give people space and time to consider the challenge - Who are you BLESSING this week? What Risk (questionable thing?) are you going to take to make yourself a better person, and to make
the world a better place? - Bumper Idea: Like Advent(ure), lots of spoken questions, scripture, with moving b-roll of “life” ends with a tag like “We are called to live a questionable life” - Elic interviews Lucas Hall (Jeopardy - Tournament of Champions contestant) - Bumper Idea: One person being barraged with various questions by various other people in his/her life. will flow rivers of living water.’” John 7:38 - Jesus Freak by DC Talk - Reasons Why by Nickel Creek - Corny Video/Song - kiddie style tv show format, teaching the B.L.E.S.S. practice using the song B.I.N.G.O. - The Story of Your Life by Matthew West - Song - “Life” by The Avett Brothers - Song - “Give Me Something To Believe In” by Poison - Problem song that sees what’s going on in the world and
challenging what we see versus what we should be seeing. Power of Forgiveness: A Minneapolis mother, whose son was murdered, now lives next door to and is friends with her son’s murderer. - Forgiveness by Matthew West - Powerful story of forgiveness, Mother forgives man who killed her daughter in car crash. “TP/AD Live Forgiveness Moment” - TP begins the story of the King and the
servant about forgiveness and his mic goes out. The AD comes to stage and says he forgot to change the batteries on his mic pack. He pretends to change the batteries, and apologizes. The TP forgives him. The AD’s cell phone begins to ring out loud. He apologizes and says he forgot to turn his phone off. The TP forgives him. He says he has to take this call and does so on stage. It’s his wife. He
says, “you locked your keys in your car? How could you forget your keys in the running car?!? NO! I can’t come bail you out, I’m running a service here! You’ll just have to wait out there in the cold!” He then turns to the TP and says “Sorry for the interruption.” The TP forgives him. - “Thank You Jesus” by Hillsong Worship (Communion song) - Song - God of Justice - Tim Hughes - MLK Day is the

is wearing a WWJD bracelet and he is behaving like Jesus would. Hanging out with “sinners”, turning over the bookstore table at church. Her solution is to give him a WWAPD bracelet (What Would a Pharisee Do) bracelet and start behaving - only hanging out with good Christian kids etc. - Song - Foo Fighters “The Pretender” - Song - Birdy - “People Help The People” - Original version sung
by Cherry Ghost - Song - Echosmith “Cool Kids” - The intro for the message is a humorous moment on “Combinations that don’t just work.” Here’s some of the text from the teaching notes: Humorous introduction in which you mention 2 things that combined don’t bring about a favorable result (i.e. Sugar Free + Fat Free = Taste Free, Dumb Ideas + Pretty People = Pop Culture). Come up with
4-6 of these. We’ll want to create Venn diagram graphics to illustrate this. Possibly a graphic sequence that shows the first item, the second item and then the intersection of the two. - Story Video: We’d like a story here of a person who found belonging through an unlikely friendship. Could possibly include 2 people...the person who reached out and the person who was reached. The person
who reached out should be someone who went to others on their own turf. Ideally as story about someone who found their way back to God because they found belonging. I believe John R was going to see if there could be a story from Flo’s Small Group that meets in a pub.‘Song - Foo Fighters (new album) “What Did I do” - “Called Me Higher” by AS&D - Movie Clip: Amistad (slave prisoners
learning the story of Jesus thru pictures in a Bible) - This World by Caedmon’s Call - Shoulder angel / devil sketch. Jesus is on one side, miniature person (self) is on the other. Get increasingly weird - cartoon characters. - Song - Do They See Jesus in Me - Joy Williams - Song
- Trusty and Truey by Damien Rice - Song - Heroes (We Could Be) - by Alesso - Cycle of Grace, Cycle of Religion Graphics: The message will include a piece on a cycle of grace/religion that we’ll want illustrated as a circular graphic with 4 stages. - Story: Patrick and Nancy O’Connell (Video) Patrick and Nancy thought they were being countercultural by living as punk rockers. Eventually they ended
up conforming to cultural norms and being just like everyone else they knew chasing the American dream. But they found emptiness instead. Nancy began searching and started finding her way back to God. The changes in her behavior caught Patrick’s attention and eventually he became curious too and found his way back to God. As they began a new life rooted in relationship with God, it
led them in directions that were truly countercultural as Patrick quit his lucrative job to move to Kansas City to help Troy and Janet launch Restore.

MINE: Song ”You Are Mine” by MUTEMATH - Could be a series anthem - behind the bumper. Need to do at least once during the series if not used in the bumper - “Mine” - clip of the birds from Finding Nemo - Fits week 1 the best - Song “Surrender” - Cash Cash (could be a resolution song after a message) - “Mine” from Pocohontas - Jason Mraz - “Make it Mine” - Mine-itis - Sesame Street clip.
An episode that Brian Williams guested on. Could be something in the episode to use? - Mine Craft parody - does anyone think MineCraft is popular enough to riff off of? - Video: God “making it rain” - Strippers and gangsta rappers would relate to this - Graphic - greenish background with three smaller logos in circles. Mine - a clenched fist, an exploding dot (or someway to represent a land
mine) and a gold nugget. Then each week the one for the weeknight gets highlighted somehow. - Bumper idea: A bunch of different people with different size moneybags (with the iconic money sign painted on) holding tightly to their bags as they encounter each other on the train or walking through the streets of Chicago etc. - Valentine’s Day “Be Mine” slogan in message and challenge.
Ask God for you to realize that He is the source. Ask Him to “be mine”. Play “Oceans” - Little candy “Be Mine” heart - “I Me Mine” by the Beatles - Mine! Clip from the movie Nemo - Balancing Contest - live in the services: We bring people up on stage and have them try to balance different things on their heads as a representation about them relying on themselves as the source. The items can
represent stuff. A toy car, a doll house, etc etc. Maybe a way to start the message that can get referenced later on. - Money (That’s What I Want) by Barrett Strong - The Boyz II Men Version - Song “Where the Money is” - NEEDTOBREATHE - “Thank Me” - A CCC Original Video. We follow a person throughout the day who believes that everything comes from him. Instead of saying “Thank You” he
always says “Thank Me” and other backwards-inwardly-focused things” Need to brainstorm some other gratitude related phrases. (OR make it a hidden camera video where we get people’s reactions to the guy when he says “thank me”) I’m welcome, pleased to meet me, how are we?, mi casa es mi casa, your pleasure, the pleasure is yours - Doxology - “praise God from whom all blessings
flow” - the source. - Video: Daffy Duck “It’s Mine! All Mine!” Suggested by Docent - Video: Don’t Buy Stuff You Can’t Afford - Classic SNL Sketch - “Joyful, Joyful” by Casting Crowns - All We Need - Charlie Hall - Joyful by Charlie Hall - “Enough” by Chris Tomlin - Could be a communion song, coming out of message - “Show Me What I’m Looking For” by Carolina liar - All I Need is You - Hillsong Debt Free Testimony - Song “All I Have is Yours” by Sojourn - Don’t Stop ‘Till You Get Enough by Michael Jackson - Satisfaction by Rolling Stones - The Debtor Games: People are thrown into situations where debt is a possibility and if they do it they “cartoon explode”. (Big explosion then you see the people covered in soot with their hair blow back) - The Mine Field - a guy from the bumper idea
is running through a mine field, clutching his bag o’ money, looking for a safe place to bury it. He starts digging. He buries the bag o’ money and as he’s patting the dirt down with his shovel, he ‘splodes. - “Happy” - by Natasha Bettingfield - “Dear Money” by Josh Wilson - Lending Tree Commercial - Debt-Free Testimony - Campuses should be promoting FPU - Song “Gold on the Ceiling” - The
Black Keys - Song “Multiplied” - NEEDTOBREATHE - Great song to end the series. Sums up all the ideas - I Surrender All (pre and post message) - ascend the hill version - All In or Tithing Testimony - Great week for a testimony! - Heart of Gold by Neil Young (I’ve been mining for a heart of gold) - Tithe Challenge? - maybe an all in push until the end of All In - Legacy by Nichole Nordeman - Whisper
by A Fine Frenzy - Song- White Flag - Chris Tomlin - Parody Song Album Video - “Jesus Paid a Tenth” and/or “I Surrender Some” An infomercial a la WOW Hits commercials, and the hits keep on coming: “Praise God from whom some blessings flow” “Take a tenth and let it be...” “Turn your tithe upon Jesus” “His Eye is on the Wallet” “When my Roll is Called Up Yonder” - Hut Hut Tithe - redux
(?) - Song: Control by MUTEMATH - A meditation on James 1:16-18: Maybe during the worship set or some sort of reflective moment at the end. Maybe it’s a communion meditation moment instead of a full on song. - Tithe Rap - from 12Stone Church honestly a bit cheesy but some funny moments - Ladder on Stage - Epic Ladder Fails - We’d love a compilation either from movies or something
like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1YU_uB_6i18 showing ladders failing. - Great story about an NFL Player who left millions on the table to become a farmer. He gives all the crops he raises away to food pantries to feed the hunger.

FINDING YOUR WAY BACK TO GOD: All Weeks, Prodigal Son Stories: Teaching Team would LOVE for the Big Idea Factory to brainstorm creative ways to tell the story of Luke 15:11-24 (beginning through younger son...can leave older son part out) prior to the message each week. That way within the message construct we can just refer to the part of the story we’re focusing on that week instead
of having to tell the story in it’s entirety each week within the message. Possible pre-message ideas: Simple reading of the text during opening worship set, “Man-on-the-Street” video where the story is told with each person saying “this is my story” at the end, Veggie Tales (might work for week 5), etc. - Brick testament - People reading parts of the story each week in different, dramatic ways,
using a translation like the Message (could use testimony people) - Could use multiple translations. - Tell the story through original song - have scripture on the screen during the song that coincides with the story. - Telling the story using the same treatment - mom on the phone, talking to son “really upset that you took everything and left” Keep tension in the story. progressive, each one from
a different perspective. Mom, Drug dealer, Bar friends, girlfriends, mom and dad talking. - Confession booth type of motif - Michael Mark poetry reading of the Prodigal son. - Artist draw images, stop motion telling of the story. - Sand art type of animation telling the story. - Video clips telling the Prodigal son story - shooting snippets of the story, cinematic close ups, similar to the Hosea Love
Story videos for Pursued - Could be like a video blog, character is already past the story, he is walking through the places where he lived the story - filming it - Artistic storytelling sketches: - Watch Burning Bridges video from One Republic for another style idea. 5 different ideas - not a 5 part video. - “Song Moment” within the message: Early in the message we’ll be talking about the longing
for love, meaning, and purpose. We’d like to “lighten” this moment by doing something fun with familiar songs that point to these core longings. Might have 10 second audio clips play encouraging everyone to sing along or the TP could start the phrase and have the congregation finish it. “You Can’t Always Get...What You Want…” “I Still Have Found...What I’m Looking For…” “Looking for
Love...In All The Wrong Places…” - Song - Andrea Summer “Better” - Song - Switchfoot (love to see a new arrangement) “Meant to Live” - Song - Brooke Fraser “C.S. Lewis Song” - Song - Gungor “Wandering” (Problem Song) - Song - Gungor “Heaven” - Song - Hillsong United “Awakening” - Song - Mumford “Awake My Soul” - Song - My Own Little World by Matthew West - Song - Katy Perry – “I’m
Wide Awake” - Song - Linkin Park - “Wake Me Up Inside” - Song - Switchfoot - “Awakening” - Song - Dustin Kensrue “Please Come Home” - Crowder “Come As You Are” - “How Deep the Father’s Love” - Song - OneRepublic “Prodigal” - Song - Shane Barnard “Prodigal Me” - Song - Elevation Worship “Jesus I Come” - Song - The Mission (Original Song - Lucas) - Song - The Michael Gungor Band
“Prodigal” - Video Story: Within the message, we’d like a testimony video of a person who “came to their senses” and saw God redeem their regrets. (select one of the DVD Curriculum Testimony) - Conclusion: Modern Prodigal Song / “Coming Home Part 2” Moment: The message is being planned to conclude with a creative moment where there is a combination of a reading of Philip Yancey’s
modern day telling of the Prodigal Son story combined with the song “Coming Home Part 2.” - Planes, Trains, and Automobiles Clip: It stars John Candy and Steve Martin who are on a disastrous road trip home for Thanksgiving. Late one night they hit the road, but something just isn’t right. - Song - Damien Rice “Trusty and True” - Song - Skylar Grey “Coming Home” Part II - Song - Gungor
“Wandering” (Problem Song, could work for weeks 1 or 2) - Song - 99 Shades of Crazy by JJ Grey & Mofro - Video Story: Jim D’s story of his gambling addiction and how finding his way back to God and the 12 steps helped him get “unstuck” (Dave Richa is the contact to Jim). - Derek Redmond Video Clip: Olympic runner who tore his hamstring during the race. As he limped around the
track determined to finish, his father broke through security and ran to him on the track and helped him across the finish line. - “Altar Call” - altar-call style opportunity for people to come forward for prayer. Included in this will be the opportunity to say “yes” to baptism for those finding their way back to God for the first time - Song - Lord, I Need You by Matt Maher - Song - NEEDTOBREATHE
“Wasteland” This could move into something like “How He Loves” or “Come As You Are” during an extended Communion/Altar Call/FYBTG moment/or Baptism - Song - You Make Me Brave - Song- How Can it Be by Lauren Daigle - Song - Jesus Loves Me by Chris Tomlin - Video Story: Jen Murphy (from the book). Teaching Pastor will set up the story as in the FYWBTG book. Our idea is to have
a video that is a voiceover with Jen reading her story as written in the book with still images illustrating the story. We’d like for these images to be more artsy/blurred images rather than clear photographs. Let’s talk to see if we can figure this out! - Baptism Celebration Video: All-church baptism celebrations planned for this week. We’d love for ADs to capture video of the celebrations at every
