Refurbishment & new build
in
an operating train network can
be problematic and challenging.
Understanding
train
operation,
interfaces, cost and safety can be key to
a successful project.
We identify these constraints early on to
reduce risks, minimise cost and reduce
delays. For major station developments
we use our expertise in railway
infrastructure to assist Main Contractors
in formulating the most effective
phasing stages for construction. We offer
the following services:
Listed building expertise
Railway station buildings
Points heating design
Signalling power design
Lighting design and visualisation
CET systems
Diesel fume modelling
Level crossings
Carriage wash facilities
Maintenance depots
Public health
The Tata Group is one of the largest
industrial assets owners in the world,
companies include JLR and Tetley Tea.
Working closely with our parent
companies we have obtained a good
understanding of the challenges
associated with
manufacturing and
production related capital projects. We
work closely with the requirements of
various funding streams to optimise
value for money in CAPEX and running
cost. Our experienced professionals can
provide the following services:

•
Process MEP infrastructure
EFW projects
Energy Audits
Specialist earthing
Compressed air
Domestic hot and cold water
storage and distribution
Fire protection and detection
Steam generation and distribution

Virtual Engineering/ BIM
Poor coordination of MEP systems with
building service zones is a common
cause of problems in the industry, leading
to delays and inefficiencies. Whilst BIM
was still in its infancy, TSP made the
decision to invest in the technology
across all design disciplines to improve
the coordination of multi-disciplinary
projects. The benefit of this has now
been realized during the procurement
and construction of a series of successful
£200M EfW schemes, with fewer clashes
and associated problems. We also use
BIM to model railway infrastructure
projects including detailed design for a
number of depot sidings projects.
In addition to BIM our MEP team offer in
house IES services as well as diesel fume
modelling. The diesel fume modelling
exercise was used to confirm the
feasibility of the 100m transfer deck at
the £120M Reading Station development
project.

Tata Steel Projects - Professional and Personable
Tata Steel projects has a dedicated M&E team with extensive experience and expertise in the design of MEP
systems across the following sectors - Industrial & Power, Nuclear, Rail , Education, Commercial and Retail.
Whole Life Costing
With ever changing legislation on
renewable energy incentives and
increased uncertainty over future energy
costs, it has never been a more difficult
time for a client to select the most
appropriate MEP systems for a project.
In order to assist in the choice of systems
we offer a full life cycle costing service
which utilises Discounted Cash Flow
(DCF) software.
We also carry out sensitivity analysis
calculations which can provide varying
whole life costs for different scenarios
i.e. different fuel costs, carbon taxes, MEP
systems, interest rates and operating
hours. Services include:
•
•
•
•
•
Carbon foot printing
Life cycle costing
Sensitivity analysis modelling
Discounted cash flow forecasts

Innovation
As part of the Tata Group we gain access
to various technologies before they are
rolled out to the market. Working with
Tata Steel , The Welsh Assembly and the
BRE we assisted in the development
of a transpired solar collector system
which is currently installed at Tata Steel
Scunthorpe.
At the current £50M Nottingham Hub
Transport Project we re-introduced the
concept of night time cooling/thermal
mass to provide passive cooling to listed
buildings to our client.

Collaborative Working
For multi-million pound industrial EPC
contracts managing and controlling
the design and installation of MEP
services can be difficult considering
programme, cost , quality and employers
requirements. For projects such as these
we provide client advisor duties, drawing
on extensive experience on these types
of schemes. This adds value to the
project in terms of identifying scope
gaps and design packages which are
critical to the success of the project.
Depending on project we can tailor our
services to meet client requirements,
from “full design duties” through a “light
touch” type of appointment.
