Dear Parishioners
The first of our Child Safety Workshops is being held this
Wednesday, 15th October, 9:15 am to 12:45 pm in the
Paloma Centre. There will be other workshops at the end of
the year and early next year. Any of our Parishioners
working with children or vulnerable adults are expected to attend a
workshop. This includes our Eucharistic Ministers who take Communion to
people in their homes or nursing homes, Children's Liturgy of the Word
leaders, youth ministry leaders, altar server trainers, sacristans, Parish staff
members, Parish Council members and Care and Concern members who
visit vulnerable people in their homes.
There is also a Child Safety Workshop at Upper Mt Gravatt Parish in the
Aspinall Centre on Thursday 16th October 9.15 am - 12.45 pm and
Tuesday 21st October 6.30 pm - 9.30 pm.
As an Archdiocese we are committed to protecting and supporting children
and vulnerable adults. Please let the Parish office know if you are attending
this Wednesday.
We had a wonderful Marriage Anniversary Mass on Friday evening.
Fifteen couples renewed their marriage vows ranging from 65 years married
to 5 years married. It was a great night and a big thank you to our
Welcoming Committee for arranging and serving the supper after Mass.
Anyone who has lost a loved one or friend over the last 12 months is invited
to our annual Memorial Mass on Saturday 8th November at 11 am.
Could you please contact the Parish office and let us know the name of
your loved one or friend who you'd like to be remembered.
The Parishioners at Acacia Ridge will notice some work being carried out
on our property on the corner of Mortimer Road (beside the green
house). There is a large commercial sign being erected. This is a
commercial venture agreed to by the Parish and will contribute $1000 a
month to the Acacia Ridge Parish expenses. The sign will be completed
over the next few weeks.
The plans for the refurbishment of Our Lady of Lourdes Church are
now sitting on some desk in the Council. If you know someone in the
Council who can assist us in processing our plans please let me know.
We continue to pray for the success of the Synod on the Family in
Rome and also pray for peace and tolerance in our world.
Have a good week everyone.
Fr Dan.
Next Sunday: 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time: Isaiah 45:1, 4-6, 1 Thessalonians 1:1-5; Matthew 22:15-21.
Reflections on the Readings
for 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time Year A
Introduction
Today, we recall God as the gracious host welcoming all humanity to the
banquet of the divine kingdom. The invitation needs our ‘yes’, something to
be renewed in our daily lives.
First Reading: Isaiah 25:6-10a
We hear Isaiah’s vision of the Lord’s promise for all peoples centred on Mt Zion: to share in the
divine banquet, to bring salvation and the conquest of suffering and death.
Second Reading: Philippians 4:12-14,19-20
Paul rejoices in God’s power and strength at work in his poverty and weakness.
Gospel: Matthew 22:1-14
Jesus tells the parable of the wedding feast with its open invitation and call for personal
response.

There are a few seemingly subtle movements that happen during
this time but they are important. Have you ever noticed the priest
putting some water in the wine? When the water and the wine are
mingled, it’s supposed to point us towards the Incarnation – God
becoming man – water symbolises the earthly, wine the divine.
Have you noticed the priest washing his hands? This is not to
physically clean his hands but rather is a symbolic action of the
priest where he recognises his own sinfulness. As the priest
washes his hands he says” Lord, wash away my iniquity and
cleanse me from my sins”. In this moment the priest recognises
that he is sinful but that God’s mercy and forgiveness is bigger
than any sin we can commit!
Stay tuned next week as we go deeper into the Liturgy of the
Eucharist!

The Liturgy of the Eucharist starts with the preparation of the gifts,
commonly known as the Offertory. Our donations are collected
and the altar is prepared by the altar servers. Our donation is more
than just making sure the parish bills are paid. We should offer our
gifts, our donations, as a gift of love and gratitude for all that God
is doing in our lives. During this time we should also be offering up
ourselves, only after we have given ourselves to God can we truly
“lift up our hearts“.
