POPE FRANCIS SPEAKS TO US
Christ is the “eternal Gospel” (Rev
14:6); he “is the same yesterday and
today and forever” (Heb 13:8), yet his
riches and beauty are inexhaustible. He
is forever young and a constant source of
newness.

NEXT WEEK: ANNUAL MISSION APPEAL
Fr Jim writes: Each year, a specific
appeal is made round the diocese by one
of the mission groups operating in the
Church. This year, we welcome Brother
Michael Richards from the Sacred Heart
Missions, Betharram. (At least we share
the same dedication title!). They are a
French-origin order who work all over
the world. Their UK base is at Olton, in
the West Midlands. I hope he’ll feel
welcome here, and that we’ll do our
best to support his appeal.

St. Catherine’s offers permanent
provision to older men and women with
residential, nursing or dementia needs.

safe place to stay when main carers are
away.
Holy Mass is celebrated
regularly in our chapel with a number
of visiting priests from across our
diocese. If you would like to know
more about our service or to arrange a

FR JIM’S NOTES
CHURCH SOUND. If you wear a hearing aid, use the “T” setting for our loop system.
TAILPIECE: A family of atheists had a clever son who was good at everything - except maths. The local
school could not get him either to take an interest in it, or make any progress in it. Then they heard that the
local RC high school had a superb maths department, so they decided to go against their anti-religious feelings, and send him there. After a couple of weeks, they noticed that after school, he would go straight to his
room, and spend hours studying in silence. This went on for the two years in Years 10 & 11. At the GCSE’s,
he got an A* in maths. In their delight, the parents asked him what made him so good. Was it the friends he
had made? No. Was it the one-to-one tuition for which the school was famous? No. Then what was it?? He
answered: “Mum, the first day I went into the maths classroom, I saw an image on the wall of some guy
nailed on to a ‘plus’ sign. I knew then that they really meant business...”
