LIBRARY CLOSED
October 13th
(closed for Columbus
Day)
We often hear things like “The library should…” At the end of the sentence it
turns out that the library has been doing “…”, sometimes for years, sometimes just
recently.
Here is a list of some of the things people didn’t realize that we already do.
“…have the patio open more often.” The patio is always open. You may
access the patio from the library during any hour that we are open, from melt of
snow to first snow fall. The patio is even open after-hours year-round if you access
if from the town green. The only exception is when there is construction going on.
Unfortunately, we have had quite a bit of construction over the last year or so.
Right now, the patio is closed while a shade pergola is being built by Eagle Scout
candidate, Thomas Lang, and French drains are being repaired.
“…subscribe to New York Times.” The library started subscribing to New York
Times online this spring. You may access it for free from anywhere with your own
computers or personal devices or on a library computer by checking out a four
week free access card. When the card expires, just check out another access card.
“…have Consumer Reports magazine.” We do subscribe to Consumer
Reports magazine and a single user online subscription. However, you will find
Consumer Reports with our reference books and not available for check out. We
found that the magazine was not being returned reliably for others to use. Feel
free to read the magazine in a comfy chair or make a photocopy of the article(s)
you want. You can also get the most up-to-date information in a single search of
the online subscription and print out the article to take home, save it to a thumb
drive or email it to yourself. Just ask a staff person to log you in.
“…have classes to teach people how to use their online library account,
use your databases, access ebooks and eaudio, etc.” We would rather offer
you our undivided one-on-one attention. We sometimes offer classes but we find
that attendance is low and people are at very different levels from each other. You
can call the library and set up a private appointment with library staff anytime or
with our teen tech tutor twice a month.
“…provide notary service.” We have been providing notary service for five
years. All library staff are notary publics and can help you any time the library is
open, even Saturdays and evenings. There is no charge for notary services.
Watch this article for more services you never knew we offered.
Sincerely,
Marti Fiske, Director
