Welcome!
We are happy to have you with us today. If you are a guest, please introduce yourself and ask
an usher for a Welcome Packet. We welcome children and encourage you to worship together as
a family often. Families with small children might want to consider sitting in the front pews to
better enable their children to see and participate in the worship service. "Busy Bags" that
contain quiet activities for restless children are located at the rear of the church and you are
welcome to borrow one if needed. If your child needs a diaper change, to be fed or comforted
during worship, please ask an usher to direct you to the infant area just beyond the narthex.
A Word from Pastor
A wedding is a big deal. I don’t know how many times the father of the bride has looked at me
with a sad expression and commented on his deflated checkbook. They usually comment next,
however, that this is their daughter’s wedding, and she is only going to do this once so they
might as well do it well. In the Gospel of Matthew Jesus says, "The kingdom of heaven may be
compared to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son." Though there is a slight cultural
difference regarding who pays for things, in the time of Jesus it was the groom’s father instead
of the brides, the idea of the best for your child carries through time. The king would have
invited the guests, given them a place to stay, had fine clothes made for them, and given them a
feast that lasted for days. In the same way your Father in Heaven has spared no expense. He has
clothed you in His Son’s righteousness in you baptism, He feeds you in Jesus’ body and blood in
the Lord’s Supper. The king in Jesus parable had some reject his invitation. Some still do. But the
price has been paid for you. God the Father wants nothing more than for you to join Him. Don’t
turn away from the feast. Join Him.

business.’ The invitation to join God in His feast and in His work is easily ignored. The rest of
life seems so much more pressing, and we tend to think that there will be another time when
we can catch back up with God. But what joys are we missing when we set aside God’s
invitation to join Him in His plans and purposes? What inheritance are we trading for the
world’s bowl of pottage?

WOMEN’S LEAGUE NEWS
Our thanks to the lay ministers for serving at coffee hour on LWML Sunday. Also, to
Kristen Stout for the beautiful bell program.
The Fall Rummage Sale is October 16-18. Please save your treasures - gently used
clothing, household items, dishes and small furniture. We also host a bake sale and we thank
you for your donations of delicious baked goods. We appreciate all the help you can provide,
and we know you will enjoy a wonderful time of fellowship.
CRAFTERS WANTED! Table rental is $25. Set-up will be Friday, from 6-9 p.m.
The annual St. Paul’s Craft Bazaar will be held on Saturday, November 15th, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

LWML WAYNE OAK HILLS ZONE FALL RALLY
Ladies, it is once again time to invite your friends and come to enjoy a time of fellowship, learn
about and experience some mission work going on in our own backyard. Our Wayne Oak Hills
Zone LWML is having a fall rally at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church in Livonia, Saturday,
October 25, we will begin promptly at 9:00am-12:00. We will have a short business meeting;
meet Patti Jacques, Executive Director of Gifts for All God’s Children, assemble some hygiene
bags and make some beaded crosses for inner city children and enjoy refreshments. Mark 9:37
"Whoever welcomes one of these little children in My name welcomes Me...." join us to learn
and support the work God has given us to do. There is an in-gathering, each church is being
asked to bring 50+ specific items, please ask or look for the in-gathering box. Plan to join us.
YOUTH NEWS
Our next event for all 7th – 12th graders will take place TODAY. We will meet at church at 5:30
p.m. to go to Salem Lutheran’s Camp Whalen at 12601 Hibner Rd., Hartland MI. Please sign up
on the Youth Bulletin Board in the hallway! DRIVERS ARE NEEDED. We will have a campfire,
games, food and fellowship. We plan to arrive back at church by 9:30 pm. Please ask Pastor and
Mrs. Becker or Mr. and Mrs. Roedel if you have any questions.
ST. PAUL’S PRESCHOOL NEWS
St. Paul’s Day Care, Preschool and Young Fives still have some availability for the
2014-15 school year! Day Care is available from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday –
Friday, and we offer Preschool for 3 and 4 year olds as well as a Young Fives program
for children that will be 5 years old but are not ready for Kindergarten. Check it out!
P. B. and J. (Parents, Babies and Jesus) is for 6 months through preschool aged children
and their parent or guardian. We will have Jesus Time with Music, Snack Time, Project and Play
Time. The next sessions will be October 22, November 19 and December 17. The P.B. and J.
that meets on Wednesday October 22nd will be a Harvest Party. Have your little one wear a
costume if you’d like. A reminder the time is from 10:00-11:00 am in the Young Fives Room.

STEWARDSHIP CORNER
God’s love is the energizing power so essential to every life. Christ’s love summons us to a
secure and happy life of repentance, forgiveness, and sanctification. “For Christ’s love compels
us, because we are convinced that One died for all, therefore all died. And He died for all that
those who live should no longer live for themselves but for Him Who died for them and was
raised again” (2 Corinthians 5:14-15). Because of God’s love, we put away all idols which the
devil, the world, and our own sinful nature place before us. That love causes us to put duties
before pleasures, to love God and our neighbors.
NEWS FROM YOUR SCHOOL, CONCORDIA!
CLASSROOM NOTES from Mr. Jim Hoeft (7th & 8th Grade Teacher & Co-Athletic Director)
(Each week a different teacher makes a report.)
The school year is going strong here at Concordia. The 7th & 8th grade class has been a lot
of fun to teach this year. These eighteen students are a very helpful and hard-working bunch!
We are now seven weeks into the school year. Wow! How time flies! The 7th & 8th grade
students recently went on a field trip to the Holocaust Memorial Center in Farmington Hills as a
wrap-up to the novel we read in class. It was a great experience as the students were able to
take a guided tour of the exhibits and meet a survivor of this horrific period in our world’s
history. I’m sure the students will remember this field trip for the rest of their lives.
The soccer season is winding down. The Knights are 5-2 this season. The Knights will be
playing in the Division 1 bracket of the WLAL playoffs for the 2nd consecutive season. They are
playing well and are looking to do some damage in the upcoming playoffs this week. With a win,
the Knights will advance to the WLAL Division 1 Championship match on Saturday, October 18,
at Lutheran High Westland. See the Knightly Knews for details about the upcoming tournament.
The girls volleyball teams are also winding down their seasons. The JV team participated
in the Wildcat Invitational on Saturday, October 10, which concludes their season. The Varsity
team will compete in the WLAL Division 1 League tournament on Saturday, October 18 at
Lutheran High Westland to conclude their very successful season! GO KNIGHTS!!!
Please continue to pray for our students and staff as we strive to educate students in the
ways of the Lord!
CLS FACULTY AT PCW CONFERENCE NEXT WEEK
School will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, October 13-14 because the faculty is attending
the Professional Church Workers Conference at the Adoba Hotel in Dearborn. The conference is
sponsored by the LCMS Michigan District and is for all church workers, not just teachers.
Pastors, DCE’s, and other congregational ministry workers will be attending as well. It has been
several years since all the church workers of the district have gathered together.

CONGRATULATIONS TO MR. ROEDEL
On Tuesday, October 14 at the LCMS Michigan District Professional Church Workers Conference,
Mr. Martin Roedel will be recognized for 40 years of service in the teaching ministry. We give
thanks to God for the blessing Mr. Roedel has been to his students and their families at
Concordia, St. Paul’s, and the other schools he has served in the Midwest. Congratulations
Marty!
CHRISTMAS GREENS AND POINSETTIAS SALE
Students in Grades 5-8 will be selling Christmas Greens and Poinsettias through November 11.
Proceeds go to help pay for their class trips. For Grades 5-6 it is their Outdoor Education Week
in February and for Grades 7-8 it is their trip to Washington, D.C. Order forms are also available
at each campus. Orders must be received by November 11. Items will be delivered on
November 25.

OKTOBERFEST 2014
Octoberfest at St. Paul's was a wonderful day! Even though the weather started out dicey,
it didn't rain and we were able to get outside and enjoy the beer tent, the cornhole boards, the
giant Jenga, and the gorgeous new cars! The food was plentiful and the beer and wine flowed!
There are so many reasons to be thankful, but number one here is that God has blessed us with a
loving, generous congregation. Please know that if I omit someone, its not intentional - I'm
grateful to all the terrific folks that worked so hard to make this event such a success!
Thanks to Pastor and Amy Becker for handling all things "Car Show" - the cars were
gorgeous and the t-shirts so classy! Thank you to Rick LaChance and Dick Dawkins and the
dealerships that loaned us those pretty new cars and also to Steve Rooker and Roger St Pierre for
bringing their personal vehicles to drool over.
Kitchen ladies - you were amazing! We served hundreds of pounds of food, thanks to your
hard work! Thank you Mary Rooker and Karen Roedel for organizing the kitchen line-up. Gail
Peterson, Cathy Flinchum, Robin Croft, Christine Wiersig, Shannon Steward, Gloria Myers,
Karen Roedel , Shirley Eiben, Kathe Schutz, Ginny McDonald and Carol Smolka- you all were
incredible and I thank you from the bottom of my heart! Thank you to Julie LaChance for
handling check out and to Heather Molnar, Sara Haller, and Amy Becker for selling tickets,
checking ID's, and handling the raffles. Your smiling faces made everyone feel so welcome!

and Ginny McDonald for final clean-up and washing of tables, etc.
Board of Elders - your beer pulling skills are what legends are made of. Thank you to Ron

Jeff Haller, and Jim Molnar for bringing their Cornhole boards to share. We need to set up a
tournament!
Special thanks to Russ Lapworth and Arts Rental for letting us use that terrific grill, the
coolers, and the Pepsi cart. Thanks to Adam Haller, Dan Haller, and Steve Rooker for taking
back those items after the event. Thank you to Bruce Howard to setting up and taking down the
temporary fencing to keep us legal with the State of Michigan.

To all who helped and I've neglected to mention - my apologies. Thank you everyone who

Saint Paul’s comes together as the Body of Christ. As with any body certain parts are talented
in certain areas and certain parts have duties elsewhere. (1 Corinthians 12) The body of Christ
at St. Paul’s seeks to draw upon those talents that are held in the body of Christ through
election of officers. For the upcoming election there are many posts available. It is the duty of
the Nominating Committee to present the congregation a slate of candidates from which to
choose. At least two candidates for every office. To do that we need your help.
In this, and following bulletins we will list those jobs that are due for election and a
description of their duties. If you believe you have a desire to serve the congregation in the
capacity of one of these offices, and have no conflict of interest in serving in that office,
please submit you name to Pastor Becker, Mike Adams, or John Burhop. With your help we
can gather a strong slate of candidates to serve the body here at St. Paul’s.
Offices in need of a candidate are:
Chairman of the Congregation
a. Shall preside at all meetings of the congregation and Parish
Planning Council;
b. Carry out the expressed will of the congregation as embodied
in the resolutions of the Voters' Assembly;
c. Member ex-officio on all Boards and Committees.
Vice-Chairman of the Congregation
a. In the absence of the Chairman shall preside at meetings of the
Voters' Assembly and Parish Planning Council;
b. Shall serve on the Call Committee and Nominations Committee;
c. Be available for whatever duties the Chairman may assign
d. In the event of a vacancy of the Chairman, he shall succeed to the
office of Chairman for the remainder of the term.
Congregational Secretary
a. Serve on the Board of Communications;
b. Be present at all meetings of the Voters' Assembly and shall
enter the minutes of said meeting in a permanent record;
c. Be present at all meetings of the Planning Council and
shall enter the minutes of said meeting in a permanent
record;
d. Publish meeting time and agenda for all Voters' Assembly
meetings and Parish Planning Council meetings in the church's
Bulletin according to the rules of the Constitution and By-Laws;
e. Duplicate and distribute the minutes of the Voters' Assembly
and Parish Planning Minutes to the Officers and the
Congregation.
