IDAHO WALK TO EMMAUS El-‐Gallo Gazette OCTOBER 2014 GREETINGS FROM THE BOARD PRESIDENT Hi Friends:
Just a quick note … super excited and celebrating with you and us all for the upcoming walks. As of
this date, we have 25 women with a waiting list, and 15 men, and still room for 10 more men. There
is still ample time for agape letters if we get those fellows. The teams are in place and the musicians
are ready to go! Eagle United Methodist Church is a happening place for the Spirit of God!!
We are encouraging everyone to participate in the 72-hour prayer vigil for both weekends. The
beauty of on-line is that you don’t have to be on-site, rather in your own home, where you might be
working. It will be very sweet to see where you all can put your prayer time. Sign up as soon as
possible. There will be more information coming on how to sign up.
Agape letters, please no more than 12 per bag that your pilgrim will receive --SPONSORS, as well as community: Don’t forget the following times:
THURSDAY by 7 pm, MENS OCT 16 and WOMENS OCT 23: SPONSORS HOUR … even if you
are not a sponsor, please come to the evening. It is very special. It is vital that we support all
aspects of every weekend if you possibly can.
SATURDAY NIGHTS by 8 pm: MENS OCT 18 and WOMENS OCT 25: Please plan on being at
CANDLELIGHT. Recommended dress is black pants/skirts; white shirts men and women; men
black bow ties if you have them. The Idaho Candlelights are magical and very holy.
SUNDAYS 3 pm: MENS OCT 19 and WOMENS OCT 26: Please plan on supporting CLOSING for
both weekends.
Also, remember to nominate yourself or someone you think would be good for us to have on the
Board. It’s very rewarding. We need 2 names from EACH REGION, west, east, and central.
Thank you so much!
If you have any comments or questions, please contact me or any Board Member.
DeColores,
Char Boyd

Walk #62 Agape drops waiting to be filled.
Within your small groups, reunion groups, among family and friends or even solo, will you
consider preparing a small item of agape that could be used in the dining room, or as a pillow
agape? This general agape should be anonymous, and therefore NOT indicated as from any one
person or group. 50 is a good ballpark number of agape items to prepare for the women's walk,
50 for the men's walk. Any gift that points to the perfect LOVE of our Lord is appropriate.
If you personally know one of the pilgrims, you are welcome and encouraged to write a Personal
letter of love to them. It will be included in the Personal Agape bundle drop on Sunday, or
received at the time of closing in their take home bag.
The men will be accepting your Agape letters whenever and however you can get it to them, but
no later than Candlelight Saturday night. They are flexible like that! It's good to be a man.
For the ladies, we will have Agape Drop Boxes available Sunday October 19th at the Closure of
the mens walk and on Thursday, October 23rd afternoon through Sponsors' hour. If you would
like to deliver your gift of agape at another time, contact Barb Young 208-412-4694.

3 Dear Idaho Walk to Emmaus Community,
Throughout the IWTE weekends, there are various types of agape you can provide to support the
weekends.
Community wall agape: items given to the conference room which are posted on the walls
• Posters and letters addressed to the pilgrims as a group from other communities and reunion
groups.
• Wall agape will begin to be presented in the conference room during the Justifying Grace talk
on Friday afternoon, and will continue throughout the weekend.
Table/Pillow agape: Small gifts for dining tables, or pillows
• Table agape distribution will begin at dinner on Friday and continue throughout the rest of the
weekend at meals.
• Pillow agape distribution will begin Friday evening and continue throughout the rest of the
weekend.
• Table/pillow agape is an expression of God's unconditional love; therefore personal names
are not attached, although Reunion Group names are permissible.
• Agape and anonymous demonstrations of love serve to move the pilgrims closer to Christ, so
their thanks and glory go to Him only.
• Pillow agape can be for pilgrims only - remember that we are no longer secretive about who
pilgrims are and who are not.
Personal agape: Letters written specifically to the pilgrim
• 8-12 letters gathered by sponsors, written for each pilgrim by those in the pilgrim's life who are
supportive of their spiritual journey. Remember that family members may not always be
supportive, and therefore sponsors should be careful to get letters from those who will be
positive and will commit to being a support system for the pilgrim's 4th day walk with Christ.
• It is the responsibility of the sponsor to bring the 8 to 12 letters in a bundle for their pilgrims.
• In order to assist sponsors in preparing bundle, it may be helpful to lightly mark in pencil on a
corner of each envelope an S- for sister, H- husband, F- friend, P - pastor, etc., as letters
come in. Once there are 8 to 12 letters erase markings and bundle (or place in baggie) and
mark with pilgrim's name.
• Give any remaining personal letters to the Agape servants, marked for placement in Sunday
"take home" bags for the pilgrim to read after returning home.
• Individual gifts for pilgrims must be delivered before or after the weekend, so that others don't
feel left out.
Prayer agape: opportunities to pray during the weekend
Prayer Chapel agape: Pray for the speaker before, throughout, and after the talk or during the 72Hour Prayer Vigil.
• for Community members to sign up, and will send reminders to those praying outside of the
weekend facility.
• Snack Agape: Fruit, cookies and refreshments available throughout the weekend.
• The Snack Assistant or Kitchen Coordinator will request community members sign up to bring
snack items.
• Community members will be sent a reminder- with location and time to drop off snack items.
Participation Agape:
• Attendance at Candlelight on Saturday night is a way to show God's presence, and by taking
the time to come and pray communally over the pilgrims, partake
4 •
in Holy Communion and be a witness to their once-in a lifetime event speaks volumes of the
love and concern of the hands and feet of Christ.
Attendance at Closing on Sunday is a way to show God's presence in numbers, to
demonstrate the force of the love of the Community, and allows the opportunity
for interaction and follow-up between pilgrims and community members.
General thoughts about this agape...
• The Agape servants will organize areas where agape can be dropped off during Send-Off and
throughout the weekend.
• They will prepare drop off boxes for wall, table/pillow and personal agape.
• To insure that agape is distributed, please have it to the Agape servants no later than noon
Saturday.
• To Sponsors—Please encourage Pilgrims to leave their watches and cell phones at
home.

6 EMMAUS MUSIC BOOK UPDATES
The Board of Directors would like the Emmaus Song Book reviewed with some newer songs added and some songs removed. To that end, we’re looking for 5 additional folks, preferably two each from the East and Central communities, and one more from the West. Our sister in Christ, Leslie McGown has already graciously agreed to help. The idea is for each volunteer to review the music book, make a list of the songs to remove and a list of songs to add. It should be easy to accomplish while at home and should require no travel. While it isn’t necessary to be a musician, it certainly would help since most of us have our own music books from which we can work. If you would be willing to help in this endeavor, please contact Don Moore at [email protected] or call at 208-‐939-‐0435. Blessings, Don Moore When is an Emmaus Contribution Tax Deductible?
Thanks to the work of Bob Steckley, Carl Christensen, and Debra Vis, the Idaho
Walk to Emmaus is now a tax-exempt nonprofit organization under section 501c3 of
the Internal Revenue Code.
Payments for participation in Walk weekends are not tax deductible. However,
amounts in excess of the $75 per person weekend fee or a general donation given to
IWTE may be claimed as deductions on your federal income tax form.
All weekend fees or donations may be sent to Idaho Walk to Emmaus Treasurer,
Kay Rice at 1819 S Watersilk Place, Boise, ID 83709. As always, check with your
accountant as you prepare to file personal income taxes.
