Welcome, Kia ora, Talofa lava
I would like to extend a warm welcome from
the land of the long white cloud, New Zealand

Wellington is the capital city of New Zealand Aotearoa and is situated at the bottom
region of the North Island. New Zealand Aotearoa is made up of the North and South
Island. Lonely Planet 2011 named Wellington the coolest little capital in the world. The
capital city is known for its atmosphere of creativity, hospitality and culture.
The capital is compact and getting around is a breeze. Offering access to markets, Museum
of New Zealand (Te Papa Tongarewa), local attractions and is known for its culinary heaven
for those wanting to experience the local cuisine. There are many choices of cuisine which
reflects a muti culture facet to the city. Wellington City has a population of 197,000, with
the wider region (including Kapiti, Porirua, Hutt Valley and Wairarapa) close to 500,000.
These surrounding regions also offer a host activities from surfing on the west coast to
the wineries of the Wairarapa, there are numerous walks and sightseeing opportunities
throughout the greater Wellington region.
Wellington played host to this event in 2002 and can promise an event that will be every
bit as successful as 2002.
Next year’s World Cup will be hosted by Wellington’s newest Indoor Sports Stadium, Hutt
Indoor Sports, located 15 minutes out of the city in Petone, Lower Hutt. You can check out
what Hutt Indoor Sports has to offer at www.huttindoorsports.co.nz
This purpose built stadium was completed in 2012 and features six courts and facilities
that will rival any stadium around the world and will combine to provide an outstanding
experience for all.
The Opening Ceremony will be held at “Te Papa Tongarewa”, the Museum of New
Zealand, which will give all visitors to our shores an insight into our bicultural history.
The ceremony will include a Powhiri, a traditional maori welcome formally greeting our
international visitors to Wellington, New Zealand followed by Hakari, a meal to be shared.
The Amora Hotel, one of Wellington’s Premium Hotels will play host to the Closing
Ceremony and Prizegiving Awards. Recently refurbished, the Amora Hotel with
panoramic views of the Wellington Harbour will be the perfect location to conclude this
world class event.
The Board of New Zealand Indoor Cricket look forward to next year and thank the member
