With Veterans Day fast approaching, now is the time to post on the District webpage and calendar the events
and ceremonies that your post has scheduled for this event. The web master needs a minimum of 14 days to
include the event on the calendar. Since Veterans Day is on a Tuesday this year, most events will be held the
weekend of November 8th or 9th . That means it must be into the webmaster no later than October 17th. The
District website is 8thdistrictillegion.org.

A thought to consider this year as November 11th nears: Forty-one years ago this October 10th, Spiro T
Agnew the vice-president of the United States resigned in the midst of a political scandal. Gerald Ford
became the vice-president, paving the way to his presidency upon Nixon’s resignation after the Watergate
scandal. Eighteen months later on April 29th, Ford orders the evacuation of Saigon and the next day the last
US Marine presence and the war ends. Over 58,000 US troops dead and over 158,000 wounded. Lest we
forget, as Middle East events deteriorate.
