About the workshop
Learning outcomes
All wetlands are under enormous pressure due to
anthropogenic activities. Urban constructed wetlands
are particularly at risk and can also suffer greatly from
unplanned design and inappropriate construction.
Poor maintenance and inadequate repair works also
add to their degradation. Unless properly planned
actions are taken, wetland assets can quickly turn into
a huge liability. This two-day workshop will focus on
these issues, highlight lessons learned from successful
construction and management, as well as discuss
effective, practical management tools.
Participants will learn:
The workshop will include site visits to wetlands at
Sydney Olympic Park.
This is the 42nd workshop that the Authority is
organising.
• The theory of wetland construction
• Principles and designs of constructed wetlands
• Effective construction and maintenance
considerations
• Fast-tracked identification of water plants
• Water plant monitoring and maintenance
• Best management practices in constructed
wetlands
• Practical skills in implementing a wetland
monitoring and maintenance regime.
Requirements
Participants are expected to have a basic
understanding of wetland ecology and management.
