he Vice-Chancellor of the
Rivers State University of
Science and Technology,
Nkpolu – Port Harcourt, Prof.
Barineme Beke Fakae, has charged
members of staff of the University to
fulfill their calling as teachers.
The Vice-Chancellor gave the
charge while declaring open a one –
month Faculty workshop for
academic and technical staff of the
University, held at the
Amphitheatre. He said that the idea
of seeing Lecturing or teaching as a
job one engages in as a means of
living should be jettisoned for the
real idea which is a call to serve
humanity.
The keynote speaker, Prof. Dagogo
M. J. Fubara, reminded the staff
that the business of the University
was to foster training, learning,
research and character building to
enable man fulfill God's command
of having dominion over all other
creations on Earth.
Prof. Fubara who spoke on “Legacy
to enhance high academic
achievement and performance of
students”, stressed that the whole

At the Workshop, which started
with the Faculty of Technical and
Science Education, the ViceChancellor urged the staff members
of the faculty to lead the way by
doing things right. “You have
always argued that other Faculties
do not have teachers but Lecturers,
this is your test case. You should
lead the way as professional
teachers for other faculties to follow.
“This workshop should not be seen
as ordinary but an eye opener that
should rekindle the passion to do

Prof. Fubara urged the participants
to see themselves as coaches that
might not have been champions but
committed to producing
champions. He advised that trading
sex and money for grades should
not be contemplated as it defeats
the whole essence of education.
“Sadistic or punitive tendencies in
marking examination scripts
should be avoided as this negates
the philosophy of love – one should
be proud of and motivated to
produce achievers and performes
even above one's own record”, he
concluded.

thanked the Vice-Chancellor and
Senate of the University for
organizing the workshop. He
however suggested that Lecturers
from other Faculties should obtain
Postgraduate Certificates in
Education to enhance their
professional delivery of the mandate
of teaching and coaching students.

T
he Registrar of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology,
Mrs. Daba Constance Odimabo, has reposted Ten(10) Administrative
staff of the University to various departments in the University.
The postings was contained in a memo dated September 26, 2014 and
takes effect from Wednesday, October 8, 2014. She advised the affected
officers to handover properly before resuming at their new duty posts. The
list of affected staff is as displayed below.
