2014 WVCAT Soccer / Volleyball Tournament
The 2014 Middle School WVCAT (West Virginia Christian Athletic Tournament)
for Soccer and Volleyball is being held today, Friday, and Saturday, October 16 - 18
on the campus of Wood County Christian.
The high school tournament will follow next weekend, Friday, October 24 and Saturday, October 25, with volleyball being played at Charleston Catholic and soccer
games at Schoenbaum stadium.
FACULTY IN-SERVICE
NO SCHOOL for students tomorrow Friday, October 17, due to Faculty InService. Classes will not be held on this day for all students in Kindergarten
through 12th grade. In addition, After Care will not be available. School will resume on Monday, October 20, at 8:15am.
PLAN / Sophomore Class
The PLAN will be administered to the Sophomore class on Wednesday, October
22, beginning at 8:25am until Noon. Be sure your student has their social security
number on this day for testing. It is a comprehensive guidance resource that helps
sophomores assess their current academic development, explore career/training options, and makes plans for the remaining years of high school and beyond. The
PLAN can also help focus test preparation to improve ACT scores.
Fall Sports Pictures
All Soccer & Volleyball Players will have their photos taken on
Wednesday, October 22 beginning at 3:00pm.
Photo Retakes & Elementary Class Photos
Mike Hall will be on campus this Wednesday, October 22, at 9am for
photo retakes as well as taking the K5 thru 6th Class photo.
First Quarter Report Cards
The end of the First Quarter grading period was yesterday, Wednesday, October 15.
Report Cards will be distributed on Wednesday, October 22. Signed report card envelopes need to be returned to the school on Friday, October 24.
Scholastic Book Fair
Elementary Grandparents Day
This year’s Scholastic Book Fair will begin with a Special Saturday Book Fair, Saturday, October
25, from 9am to 1pm for parents who may not be able to make it during the week. The Book Fair continues to be open Monday, October 27 through Thursday, October 30, 8am to 6pm.
If you are unable to attend the Book Fair in person, we invite you to visit our online Book Fair at scholastic.com/fair. Our online Fair is available from October 22 to November 11.
Grandparents Day on Thursday, October 30, will coincide with our Book Fair again this year. Grandparents Day begins with a short program presented by our elementary students followed by an open
house. Grandparents of elementary students will have an opportunity to shop with their grandchild after the mornings activities.
We are asking grandparents with grandchildren in both lower and upper elementary to please visit the
book fair from 11:30 to NOON. After the Book Fair and class visit, grandparents are welcome to take
their grandchild with them (with parental approval) for a special afternoon.
This is an exciting time for our students!

School will be dismissed at NOON for all students, K5 thru 12th grades, on Friday, October 31, in
preparation for the SH Fall Social in the gym. School resumes on Tuesday, November 4, at 8:15am
Parent-Teacher Conferences—November 3
Our Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Monday, November 3. Please call the school office
to schedule meetings with your child’s teacher. Conferences are scheduled from 9:00 am to 7:30 pm on
Monday. Due to the full day of parent-teacher conferences, there is NO school for all students, K5
thru 12, on this day. School resumes on Tuesday, November 4, at 8:15am.
Senior High FALL SOCIAL
Tickets on SALE now for $25! Fall Social for grades 9th thru 12th will be held in the school gym, Saturday, November 1. Theme: “Around The World”.
Doors will open at 6pm with PICS at 6pm and dinner being served at 7pm. Purchase your tickets by
Friday, October 24. Price increases to $30 per ticket if purchased after that date.

BASKETBALL TRYOUTS BEGIN: While the fall season comes to an end, we look forward to
our upcoming basketball and cheer season. MIDDLE SCHOOL Tryouts will be Monday, October 27 and Tuesday, October 28. HIGH SCHOOL Tryouts will begin November 3rd and extend through November 7th. All students who plan to play must have turned in their sports
physicals before they may practice or try-out. Athletic fee of $45.00 will be due prior to being able to dress or play in a game. Practice schedule for November will be posted
soon. Please note that a complete travel uniform is required to participate in basketball or
cheerleading. Order forms may be picked up in the school office. Looking forward to an exciting season. GO WARRIORS!

We collect and recycle empty printer cartridges, used cell phones, used I Pads, Digital Cameras, GPS
Devices, Tablets, Toner, MP3 Players, and E Readers. Collection boxes are located in the Administrative Building (100 Building).

Veterans Day
There will be NO SCHOOL for students on Tuesday, November 11, in observance of Veterans Day. In
addition, After Care will not be available. School will resume Wednesday, November 12, at 8:15 a.m
Attention Parents: We have been challenged!!!
A donor has promised $7000 toward the completion of the baseball field if we can match it by the end
of November. Come by the office and see the specs of what the Warrior Baseball field will look like.
We want to expedite the construction of the dugouts before winter arrives. The poles for the backstop
have been donated, the pads for the dugouts have been poured, the footers for the backstop poles have
been poured. We need about $13,000 to complete the project and be ready for spring sports. That will
enhance the athletic complex here at CLCS. It will also be a recruiting tool for new students. That’s a
fact. Some of those matching funds have already come in so let’s make this project a reality by
Thanksgiving. You may send your donation in to the office marked “Field of Dreams Project.”
Softball field Project Update
We are also raising funds to complete the softball field. Lots of work has already gone into the project
and it is exciting to see the progress. If you would like to designate some funds toward that project you
may send them through the school office marked “Softball Field Project.” We would like to make this
project a reality by the spring. I will be exciting to be able to actually have “home” games at HOME!,
rather than renting a public field.
Congratulations Jacob Guthrie
Jacob, 9th grader, has been selected to the Charleston Town Center’s TeenBoard. He is one of the selected 15 TeenBoard members that auditioned in September from 13 schools in 4 counties. The
Charleston Town Center TeenBoard offers activities in which students will enhance their personal development through exposure to retail marketing, public relations and community involvement. Again,
congratulations to Jacob Guthrie for representing CLCS in this exciting student achievement!
Keeping the main thing, the main thing!

The education that we give our youth provides crucial building blocks for the rest of their lives.
George Washington, addressing the area of education, said, “The best means of forming a manly, virtuous, and happy person will be found in the right education of youth. Without this foundation every
other means in my opinion, must fail.”
The Bible has much to say about “the right education of youth.” In this crucial area, Scripture details the responsibility we carry to instruct our children in the ways of the Lord, and it warns of the
risks of allowing ungodly philosophies to influence the hearts and minds of our young people (see Ps.
1:1).
A recent survey revealed that 85% of parents, of Christian School age students, chose their school
based on safety, student-teacher ratio, reputation for academic success, and a better alternative to the
public school. Unfortunately, many see the primary value in a Christian school as “a safer environment, smaller class sizes, higher academic standards, and better influences.” Although all these benefits are present, the primary goal of Christian education is so much higher. It is to teach our children
God’s Word as a foundation for every aspect of life.
Christian education is not merely a superior social or academic choice. It is biblical—a philosophy
of raising children for God. Cross Lanes Christian School is distinctly different by God’s design.

FLU VACCINE CONSENT FORMS DUE
Flu Vaccine Consent Forms are scheduled to be sent home FRIDAY OCTOBER 31 with ALL STUDENTS. Consent forms must be completed on both sides. Completed forms need to be returned to
the school office no later than date shown on the envelope (Friday, November 7, 2014).
Elementary students have the option of the shot or nasal vaccine. Parent/guardian signature is required
for consent of the flu vaccine to be given. Flu Vaccines will be administered by the Kanawha County
Health Department on Tuesday, November 19.
Box Tops / Campbell’s Soup Contest #1
This first contest ended Tuesday, October 14. The winner was the class that accumulated the most
points by bringing in the most box tops and soup labels. The nicely trimmed labels and box tops are
worth 2 points to the class and the untrimmed only 1 point; but all add up to a Pizza party for the class
that brings in the most labels/box tops. It takes 500 points to qualify for the contests. The winners of
the Pizza Lunch for Contest #1: TBA.
The second contest has begun! You have until December 15 to turn in 500 points to qualify for the
Pizza Lunch!

Have some great pictures of sports, friends, or other CLCS activities? CLCS now has capability for
students & parents to upload their pictures for yearbook. These pictures will be viewable for everyone
who has an account on “replayit.com”. Want to see a certain photo in the yearbook? ReplayIt offers a
“like” button, similar to Facebook, so we know which one everyone likes. Below you will find the instructions for how to start uploading your school pictures.
First, go to replayit.com Second, Select “Find your school to register” Third, Find Cross Lanes Christian
School (Cross Lanes Christian Elementary School for elementary students & parents) & fill out the other information. Fourth, Go to your email to finish registering by clicking the link.... Then upload your pictures!!
School Cancellation / Delay Notification
CLCS will convey to our school parents any emergency information regarding school closings through

Medicine Distribution
Requirements
If it is necessary for your student to take any type of medicine (tylenol, motrin, prescription medicine,
etc.) while at school, a Medication Administration Form must be completed and filed in the school office. Medications must be in original packaging. CLCS does not provide any medications for students
to use.

Beginning with the 2015-2016 school year we will begin to institute school uniforms
into the Middle and High Schools. The schedule will be as followings:

Dr Mitri Ghareeb, DDS
(CLCS Director of Development)
Dr. Mitri A. Ghareeb, DDS, FAGD was inducted into one of the most prestigious fellowships in dentistry last week at a ceremony in San Antonio,
TX. He and his wife, Heather, are 1992 graduates of CLCS. Dr. Mitri became on of a handful of dentists this year to be awarded as a Fellow of the
International College of Dentists. The International College of Dentists (ICD
or “College”) is the oldest and largest international honor society for dentists
in the world. Established in 1928, the College has over 12,000 members, in
122 countries, who have been awarded the prestigious title of Fellow in the
ICD.
Fellowship in the College is extended by invitation only. A
nominated dentist must pass a rigorous, peer review process
leading to the recognition of the individual’s “outstanding professional achievement, meritorious service and dedication
to the continued progress of dentistry for the benefit of humankind.”
Congratulate Dr. Mitri as you see him in the community. CLCS has the
privilege of having graduates of this caliber all over the world. This is just
one example of what can happen following graduation at CLCS. Way to go
Dr. Mitri.
