On Monday 6 October,
eight of our Year 9

The students went behind the
scenes at the racecourse,
meeting with jockeys and
visiting the weighing room and
paddocks. I was very proud of
them as they were extremely
well behaved and were a credit
to the College.

w/c Monday 20 October
Years 9 and 10 Core (Maths
and English) Assessment
Week
They watched a couple of races
and went into the parade ring to
pick the best behaved and
dressed horse. A few of the
students then went into the
winners enclosure and met with
the trainers. They had a great
day and it has shown them
numeracy in a real life
situation.

Luke Mann (8C) is attracting much attention in the PE Department. Apart
from being a strong member of the Year 8 boys’ football squad, Luke is
fast becoming a name to watch for his performances in Cross Country,
Athletics and Pentathlon. He recently won a Pentathlon Silver medal in
Sutton on Saturday 13 September, setting some remarkable scores in
the following events:





Long Jump 4.42 m
75 m Hurdles 14.26 s
Shot Putt 5.20 m
800 m 2 mins 30 s
High Jump 1.51 m (Personal Best).
Last year he received a Bronze medal in the
Pentathlon and is looking ahead to a Gold medal
next year. Further to this, Luke recently represented the College and comfortably
came 2nd in Round 1 of the English Schools Cross Country Competition in
Guildford.
Congratulations Luke on some highly commendable achievements! Keep
up the hard work!

During the year we run a number of Parent Focus
Groups to seek the views of our parents on
important College issues. We welcome all parents to
come along to these very informal discussions with
light refreshments available. The first meeting to
discuss current issues and future priorities is as
follows:
Friday 24 October
11.30am until 12.30pm
Conference Room, Kingston Building
Watch this space for information on future focus groups!

Are you interested in joining Reading club?
It takes place every Thursday Week 2 in the library from 3.05pm until 4.00pm.
We are an informal group made up of students from all year groups. It is a
chance for us to share books that we have enjoyed with others and perhaps to
try something new!
This term we will be taking the Reading BINGO challenge which will involve
completing a vertical, horizontal or diagonal line of our choice.
No need to book - just turn up!
See you there!

DUKE OF EDINBURGH AWARD PRESENTATION
The next Presentation Ceremony of the Duke of Edinburgh Awards is at Collingwood College on
Wednesday 19 November 2014
Bronze, Silver and Gold Participants already registered and in the process of completing their awards,
must submit all evidence and assessor reports via eDofE by Monday 20 October 2014 in order for this
