Welcome to the following new pupils:
From the Principal
Kia Ora Koutou
Welcome back to KNS for the last term of the 2014 school year, this week
will culminate with one of the highlights of the year, the KNS Gala. A
huge thank you to everyone who has been involved in the preparations
and planning, this is a fantastic event and one which brings the whole
school community together. I’m looking forward to a great day on
Saturday.
On Monday we welcomed Nicky Giles to our staff. Nicky will join the
office team, having oversight of the medical room.
URGENT - What are you doing to help at this year’s gala? Help still
needed.
As you will be aware our Annual School Gala is being held on Saturday 18
October. All proceeds from the gala will go towards the upgrade of our
school hall. The gala is a huge fundraising effort and an enjoyable
community event. There are still a number of stalls which require more
help for part of the day, so even an hour of your time would be very
gratefully accepted.
There are morning and afternoon shifts on gala day, so you can still spend
time with your family or you could help tidy up once it is over.
If you are able to help support the school and join in the fun please
contact Leaine Devine on [email protected] and she will find a job for
you.
“Lest We Forget”
Those of you who have been in school this week may have noticed a
poster and information regarding Frederick Smith. Frederick Smith was a
Karori Normal School pupil who volunteered in 1917 and was wounded in
action in France a month before the Armistice. The poster is on display
on the wall of Room 25, adjacent to the Admin Block and forms part of
the Wellington City Council’s “Lest We Forget” wall stories project. For
more information about the project and Frederick Smith please follow
this link,

Health & Safety
As outlined in the last Term 3 newsletter, the Ministry of Education’s property team, arranged for a 20cm layer of soil to be
removed from the site of the old prefabs. This work was carried out during the holidays and subsequent testing of the soil
indicated that the site is now clear of asbestos. The area will remain fenced off until replacement classrooms are built. The
Board of Trustees is now in negotiation with the ministry about this project.
If you have any questions regarding this matter please don’t hesitate to contact me.
2015 Class Lists Development Process
A separate newsletter will be sent home today, via-School Links, which outlines the process for the development of classes
for 2015. Please read this carefully and take note of the deadlines, particularly if you wish to contact us about the 2015 class
lists. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me.
Year 0 to Year 7 Children Not Returning to KNS in 2015
We are now planning our staffing and class organisation for 2015. It will be very helpful if you could inform us, if your child
will not be returning to KNS next year.
If your child is in Year 0 to Year 7 and he/she will not be attending our school next year, please email Vicki Lewington –
[email protected] informing her of your child’s last day at KNS and which school he/she will be attending in 2015.
Thank you to those parents who have already done this. This information is necessary to help us confirm the numbers of
classes we need at each level in 2015.
A thought to share with your children: “It is the service we are not obliged to give that people value most.” (James Cash
Penney)
