Last Year’s Trunk or Treat!
Trunk or Treating 101 - Not sure what Trunk or Treat is all about? Here’s the scoop:
Holy Apostles will hold their 4th Annual “Trunk-or-Treat” event on Friday Oct. 31, 6:00-8:00 pm.
This event is for all ages and is a great way to celebrate “All Hallow’s Eve.” Historically, it’s the Vigil
of All Saints Day, as instituted by Pope Gregory III in the 7th century…. We just celebrate the occasion a
little differently in 2014!
Parking and decorating starts at 5:30 pm in the parking lot where volunteers will be ushering the
cars. Participants (young, old and all in between!) park their car or truck, decorate the trunk or tailgate in
a variety of ways and bring treats to give the children. Some are simple… some are very
elaborate! There will be a prize for the best overall decoration.
From 5:30-7:30pm the Knights of Columbus of Columbus will be serving delicious chili-frito pie, hot
dogs & chili dogs from the kitchen for $2.
At 6:30pm the parking lot closes for the safety of the children and then the costumed kids begin going
from car to car “trunk-or-treating.”
But that’s not all! At 7:30 pm the big costume parade begins in the gym. Children and adults show
their costumes and a prize is awarded to the best in 3 age categories.
While you are at Holy Apostles on the Vigil of All Saint’s Day… visit the columbarium, aglow with
luminaries, and say a prayer for the dead. For details call the RE office at 888-1182,x-3022 or 3021.
Catechist Certification Classes
If you would like to work toward your Catechist Certification through the Diocese of Boise – save the
date Nov. 15! Three of the 6 courses needed for certification will be offered at an all-day workshop at
Holy Apostles: Saturday, Nov. 15, 8:30 am-4 pm.
Topics to be covered are: Special Needs in the Classroom; Media in the Classroom; and Specialized
Skills. Each class will be taught by representatives from the Diocesan Office of Catechesis. RSVP to
the Theresa or Blanca in the RE office, 888-1182 ext. 3022 or 3021.
Parish Nursing~ForWellness of Body, Mind and Spirit
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
The Knights of Columbus are having a Blood Drive on Monday, October 27th, from 1-6 P.M. We
will be available after each Mass to sign up parishioners the weekend of October 25 & 26. Call Ron
Katko at 377-4553, or Monique Kilroy (Parish Nursing) at 888-1182 ext.3008.
The Flu Season has begun: Hand washing is an important step in preventing the spread of germs
among parishioners. Please note the new signs in bathrooms and lather hands for a full 20 seconds
before rinsing, each time you use the restrooms. If you are not feeling well, running a temperature, or
have a child who is not feeling well, please consider staying home. Cover your cough with the inside of
your elbow, and use hand sanitizer when washing your hands is not possible. Your awareness and
consideration of others is appreciated by all. Let’s stop the spread of the Flu and illnesses that interrupt
our lives. If you are at risk, (over the age of 60, diabetic, asthmatic, or have an immune deficiency)
consider getting your Flu shot w/your Primary Care Physician or at your pharmacy.
Anointing of the Sick: Do you have a planned hospital stay and need the Sacrament of Anointing of
the Sick? Anointing of the Sick can be offered during reconciliation hours, Saturday 3:30-5:00pm,
otherwise, contact the Parish Office to schedule an appointment, 888-1182, M-F 9:00-4:30pm. Know
that non-urgent requests should be arranged during office hours.

Stewardship of Giving
Online Giving: Online giving is easy! You’ll find the online giving link on the first page of our
website. Click the link and then follow the prompts. If you do not want to not receive future tithing
offertory envelopes, please leave a message at ext. 3003, otherwise you will continue to receive them.
We encourage you to continue to receive them so you may have all Holy Days and four additional
Diocesan Collections. Thank you.
The 2014 Idaho Catholic Appeal: Thank you to those who donated on 9/21-22
with a second collection for the 2014 ICA campaign. We collected just over
$6,000 in cash and $3,500 in pledges. This brings our goal closer, $184,117 for
pledges and cash. Our goal is $211,939, leaving us shy $27,822. You may pledge online at
www.catholicidaho.org. Envelopes are also available in the gathering space.
Building On Our Past, Envisioning Our Future: This campaign is closing into completion of the
second year of a four year campaign. Holy Apostles had the largest goal to reach, $1,156,643.
To date we are shy of our goal by $201,120. Outstanding pledges are $383,613.
The parish just received the quarterly 40% kickback to help build our Elementary School
in the amount of $14,103. As you can imagine, every dollar counts. If you have not
yet pledged to this campaign you’ll find pledge envelopes in the gathering space.
ICR Sunday, October 26: Be sure to watch for your ICR renewal insert that will come in October
17th ICR paper! If you wish to continue receiving this valuable paper filled with local Catholic news,
please renew immediately. If you are not yet a subscriber, please take an envelope from the gathering
space, include your name and payment to be added to the mailing list. For those currently receiving
the paper, all subscriptions not renewed by Dec. 1 will be removed and you will miss the
Christmas Special Edition!
Offertory Envelopes: Your offertory envelopes are a valuable tool when tithing. If you are receiving
them in the mail and attend weekly Mass, please use them. For those using online giving or monthly
bank drafts, if you are receiving tithing envelopes and wish to discontinue using them, please call Deb
at ext. 3003 and leave her a message. Thank you.
