MARRIAGE: Couples planning to be married should contact the Church at
least 6 months in advance of the planned wedding date. No other arrangements should be made until the couple meets with a parish priest and the date
and time are reserved. Attendance at a Marriage Preparation program is required in accord with Archdiocesan policy. Further information will be provided at the time of the meeting with a priest.

OCTOBER 19, 2014
Dear friends/Mis queridos amigos,
In a few short weeks, it will again be Election Day, and many eligible voters will head to the polls. There
they will decide who will be our next Pennsylvania governor and representatives who assume various legislative and
judicial positions. Today’s gospel, speaking of both Church and State contains a famous dictum from the mouth of
Jesus: “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, but give to God what is God’s.” The episode is certainly appropriate for
our consideration this Sunday. Traditionally, this pronouncement has been cited to support the concept of the separation of Church and State. Seems easy to me! It becomes somewhat trickier in its application, however, when trying to figure out the extent of one’s involvement in the political process. There are challenges involved in maintaining one’s equilibrium without absenting oneself from any aspect of the human experience. We must not forget that
all of us are also called elsewhere in the gospels to be salt and light, leaven in our world.
The Lord was challenging in His command to “give to Caesar what is Caesar’s.” His recommendation in
this regard was probably very unpopular with his contemporaries. The Jews were an occupied populace required to
pay tribute to their occupiers. When given the opportunity to rescue Jesus from the Passion, the people responded
to Pilate’s invitation to release Barabbas, an insurrectionist noted for his resistance to the Roman Empire. The second part of that verse (“give to God what is God’s”) presents an even more difficult task. It is the important component, so it is imperative we get it right. Giving to God has been popularly called “stewardship” in the modern
Church. Before my arrival at St. Stanislaus, there was a pervasive education effort undertaken to broaden everyone’s understanding of the term stewardship. We know that stewardship before God is never limited solely to money (although finances are a consideration). Rather, God wants us to offer all that we are as gift and all that we have
discovered ourselves to be: people with talents, abilities, time, ideals, thoughts, emotions and other things that help
us navigate through life. Christian stewardship involves everything that God has provided for us.
Understood in this broad way, giving to God would begin with a re-dedication to God of all we are, all we
say, and all we do. This total consecration of self means that everything we attempt to be/say/do has the potential
of being a tribute to God that reflects an individual’s belonging and aspiration to serve.
In the first reading for today, Isaiah speaks of the gift to God of Cyrus the Persian. Without his full awareness, Cyrus’ life became an important part of God’s saving plan for Israel and for humankind. We will never be able
to know with certainty whether Cyrus consciously affirmed himself as “given to God,” but we can learn from his life
and apply it to our own. Most of us have been consecrated to God as gift before we were fully aware of it when baptized as infants. As we grew up and matured in the faith, it became our personal responsibility to embrace our existence as a gift from God, and to live it accordingly. While restaurant etiquette might require a 15% tithe as acceptable, those who are given over to God will settle only for a 100% gift of self. This absolute belonging to God will
necessarily preclude being given over to actions that are any way immoral, dishonest, unjust, or any other word or
work that would desecrate the gift that we are. This absolute belonging will also involve the gift of all we have been
given and all we have to God. When the gift of self is primary, all else follows naturally. Is there anything keeping
you and me from belonging absolutely to God and doing His will?

Today is WORLD MISSION SUNDAY in the universal Church. Generally we think of Maryknoll or the
Columbans, or other missionary religious orders as those on the “front lines” of mission activity. That does not diminish our role on Mission Sunday. Today we remember that, through Baptism, we all share the call to mission;
that is, to bring the Good News of Jesus’ gospel to people living on the margins or in the darkness. Sharing the hope
of the gospel can lead everyone into the light of a brighter tomorrow. For some, that takes the form of leaving home
and family to live and work in hard, out-of-the-way places; for others, it will mean staying closer to home offering
prayerful support, or time, talent and treasure on behalf of the missionaries and those they serve. Mission embraces
many different roles, but unifies us in one goal: sharing the Gospel with everyone, everywhere, no matter how hard
the place.

Transparency in practice and in operations has become a characteristic of most not-for-profits in the world
in which we live. The word in this context refers to an organization that conducts its financial activities in an open
way without secrets, so that people can trust such actions are fairly and honestly accomplished. While the Church is
not a business, we can learn from the “best practices” of the corporate world. With that in mind, next weekend,
there will be a frank presentation of the “state of the parish” from members of the Finance Committee. A portion of
the Parish bulletin will also be utilized for this purpose. Please listen to the presentations next weekend with an open
mind, as many are not public speakers in their workplaces. There was much accomplished during the fiscal year
ended June 30, 2014, but there remains more to do and concerns about trends that have been noticeable and
tracked over the last few years. For all that you continue to do for the parish, and for the sacrifices you make on its
behalf, know that I am grateful.

MATER DEI TREK FOR TECH ~ NOVEMBER 7, 2014
Mater Dei Catholic School needs your help to raise money to enhance our technology program.
Technology is used every day at our school. We use Smartboards and projectors in each classroom
for instruction. We have two computer labs, one for formal instruction and one as a resource for
teachers to use with their whole class. Through the generosity of our benefactors, 16 desktops were
replaced with new Windows-based desktops during this past summer and the older computers were
refreshed and distributed to classrooms throughout the school. We also have iPads for teachers and students to
share. In grades 4 through 6, each student receives their own iPad to use for schoolwork and homework. This
has opened up our use of technology like never before! We do need financial support, however, to continue to
improve what we use by replacing older equipment and making purchases to stay current with 21st century
technology! So on November 7th, our students will trek to Lansdale Catholic to walk the track and raise money
for technology at Mater Dei. Would you consider supporting us by making a donation? Any amount will be
greatly appreciated- $5, $10, $15, $20, $25 or $50. Or you could donate the cost of an iPad for $379. Please

REGIONAL KAIROS:

BAPTISM: MORE THAN A BATH AND PARTY
Jesus commanded His disciples to go out and baptize
all Nations. The Catechism calls the sacrament of
Baptism “the basis of the whole Christian Life and
the gateway to life in the Spirit” (1213). Although
each Christian shares in the sacrament, we often forget that we have passed thru this spiritual gateway.
All are welcome to attend a presentation by Father
John Masson at Nativity of our Lord Parish Conference Center, located behind the Church at 625 W.
Street Road in Warminster, on November 12 from
9:30 am to 2 pm. Discuss and meditate on the effects
of this beautiful Sacrament and how we can pass
through the gateway and build our spiritual lives on
the strongest of foundations. Mass will be celebrated.
Father John Masson has been serving as the Parochial Vicar at Nativity of Our Lord Parish since his ordination in 2012. During his studies at St. Charles
Borromeo Seminary he earned a Masters of Divinity

¿Cómo anunciamos el evangelio a la gente de nuestro tiempo?
El testimonio de vida. Para la Iglesia el primer medio de evangelización consiste en un testimonio de vida auténticamente cristiana,
entregada a Dios en una comunión que nada debe interrumpir y a la
vez consagrada igualmente al prójimo con un celo sin límites. "El
hombre contemporáneo escucha más a gusto a los que dan testimonio
que a los que enseñan —decíamos recientemente a un grupo de
seglares—, o si escuchan a los que enseñan, es porque dan testimonio". San Pedro lo expresaba bien cuando exhortaba a una vida pura y
respetuosa, para que si alguno se muestra rebelde a la palabra, sea
ganado por la conducta. Será sobre todo mediante su conducta, mediante su vida, como la Iglesia evangelizará al mundo, es decir, mediante un testimonio vivido de fidelidad a Jesucristo, de pobreza y desapego de los bienes materiales, de libertad frente a los poderes del
mundo, en una palabra de santidad.

LOS SACRAMENTOS
Bautismos – Clases bautismales serán el primer Domingo de cada mes
después de la misa. Inscríbase por anticipado con el Padre Forlano. La
próxima clase bautismal es el 2 de noviembre. Todos los que necesitan
bautizar a un niño o una niña o quieren ser padrino o madrina deben
asistir. Normalmente, se celebran los bautismos durante la misa del
segundo y cuarto Domingo del mes. Para ser padrino/madrina o recibir una carta de elegibilidad, una persona tiene que ser: 1) Un Católico
practicante con un mínimo de 16 años de edad y haya recibido todos
los sacramentos de iniciación - bautismo, confirmación, y comunión; 2)

Iglesia; 3) Casado por la iglesia católica o soltero sin vivir en unión
