Men's Bible Study
The conflicts of the early Christians in Corinth are in
many ways similar to our struggles today as Christians.
They, too, witnessed division, scandal, immorality, persecution and other trials. In response, St. Paul taught the
Corinthians about the Church as the Body of Christ, introducing them to the most powerful gift of all: the
Eucharist.
Join us for First Corinthians: The Church and the Christian Community at St. Ambrose Pastoral Center every
Saturday. For more information or to register for the
study, call Greg Mattingly at 210-2628 or
[email protected]
DONUT SUNDAY
Please join us on Sunday, Oct. 26th
after Masses for donuts, coffee and juice.
We thank the St. Ambrose School Parent
Association for hosting this month.

YOU CAN UNDERSTAND THE BIBLE
If you want a better understanding of our faith, and a
deeper relationship with God, then you should join us for
The Bible Timeline Study.
The Bible Timeline is a Catholic Bible study that can help
anyone to make sense of the bible and experience the lifechanging power of God’s Word. The study takes you on a
journey through the entire Bible and brings you deep into
each period of salivation history, so that you can discover
the amazing story woven throughout all of Scripture. The
Bible Timeline has helped hundreds of thousands of people
to have a better understand the bible and a deeper relationship with Christ, and it will help you too.
The study will include a series of twenty-four videos presented by Jeff Cavins. (Perfect attendance is not necessary.) Each video will be preceded by a lively group discussion.
St. Ambrose will begin The Bible Timeline on Thursday,
November 6th at 9:30AM and 6:45PM in the Pastoral
Center.
Sign up forms at each entrance to church.
For more information contact Greg Mattingly at 210-2628
or Mary Ann Bray at 465-4049.

COAT DRIVE
The Youth Group and Women’s Group have joined
together again to coordinate the parish Coat Drive.
We are looking for nearly-new coats for children/
adults to donate to those in need for fall, winter and
spring. You could help us by gathering coats at home,
washing the coats, and dropping them off at one of
the large boxes near the front entrance or office
lobby. The drive lasts from October 6th through November 2nd. Thanks!
Thank you so much for your continued contribution to
those in need. Please place your items in the baskets at
each entrance. If this idea does not appeal to you please
continue to contribute as you have been doing monthly.
Any contribution is greatly appreciated. Please check the
expiration date—The local organizations will not accept
expired dates on canned or boxed good. Thank you.
Free Webinar Series: Building a Better Disciple-This fall the Office for Catechesis will offer a free webinar series for Catholic adults. Over the course of five
webinars we will explore what it means to be a Christian
through the lens of Acts 2:42. “They devoted themselves
to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life,
to the breaking of the bread and to prayer.” Full information on the series is being posted at webpage BuildingABetterlDisciple.tumbir.com. What follows is a quick
overview of the sessions (clicking on the links will take
you to the registration page for each webinar).
October 20, 2014 Scripture and Tradition: The Boundaries of Discipleship—Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition. Passed on through the biblical authors, the apostles
and their successors form the deposit of our faith. As the
basis for all of the Church’s teaching they also provide
the boundary lines for discipleship by illuminating the
path that followers of Christ must follow.
https://www2.gotomeeting.com/register/932598546
All webinars begin at 7:30pm. (Central Time) and will
last 90 minutes. Catechists and teachers in the diocese of
Springfield in Illinois who complete all five webinars
and submit the requisite forms to their principle or parish
catechetical leader will be granted 10 hours of credit in
Discipleship and Spirituality. Participation in fewer than
five webinars will be awarded with two (2) hours in Personal Spiritual Enrichment for each webinar attended,
The participant forms will be e-mailed after each webinar to all who participated.

make your Scrip purchasing as easy as possible. Scrip is
also available after most masses. Thank you to everyone
who has purchased Scrip or used their Schnucks e-script

**The Riverbender has secured a bus and driver for St.
Ambrose School. All 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students
are eligible to attend the after school program. There are
numerous activities such as art classes, German classes,
computers and many more available. Call the school office for more information.
**This is a quick reminder to ALL parents. All of the
fundraisers that St. Ambrose School sponsors are used to
help defray tuition costs. The total cost to educate a child
at St. Ambrose School is about $5,100.00 per child. So,
fundraisers are held throughout the year to keep tuition
costs down. Our main 2 fundraisers are the Applefest, and
the auction in January. Please VOLUNTEER and PLAN
to attend the auction on January 31st.
**On November 8, 2014, the 34th Annual Benefit Dance
for the William M. BeDell Achievement and Resource
Center will be held at Julia’s Banquet Center from 8-12.
The band will be Mondin and beer and soda will be provided. St. Ambrose Parishioners, Shirley Weidman has
directed this benefit for 34 years. It is the only fundraiser
for the organization. Please support Shirley and the William M. BeDell Center. Tickets are only $15.00 dollars
per person. For tickets or for more information, contact
Sue Schmidt at 466-4216 or 466-8629. If you cannot attend please consider making a donation.

Congratulations
Congratulations go out to Emily Selby, Megan Elliott,
and Ruby Pruitt for having their artwork selected in the
Missionary Childhood Association Christmas card contest. Their pieces were three out of 24 selected from the
entire nation of entries. This was our school’s third year
to have a winner. Our girls join past winners Claire Spain
and Luke Schnaak. We are also the only school in the
Springfield Diocese to have been selected.
We are also please to announce that Ruby’s artwork has
been chosen as the grand prize winner. Her picture will be
used for this year’s Pontifical Christmas Card. All three
girls were honored at the Mission Mass in Springfield on
October 1st. We received framed copies of their work to
hang in the school and their originals will be displayed at
the Basilica in Washington, D.C. in December.
During the Advent season, you may visit the Missionary
Childhood association website and select to send one or
more of these pictures as e-greetings. More information
will come in the church bulletin.
