Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time

THIRTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
LOVE SHOWN IN ACTION
Do you receive the word of God with joy as the Thessalonians did? Their faith
showed in their actions. They became models for other believers.
The first reading tells us to put our faith into action. This passage is part of a long list
of ordinances God commanded the Israelites to observe. God will judge us by how
we treat our neighbors. God will hear the cries of any whom we neglect or mistreat
and will come to their defense.
In today’s Gospel the Pharisees put the question of God’s law to Jesus. “Which commandment of the law is
the greatest?” (Matthew 22:36) How could he possibly choose from all the detailed commandments the Jews
observed? He was sure to offend somebody by his answer! Of course, Jesus went right to the heart of the
matter. Love is the greatest commandment—love of God and love of neighbor. Everything else is based on
this.
TODAY’s READINGS
First Reading — You shall not oppress an alien, for you yourselves were once aliens in Egypt
(Exodus 22:20-26).
Psalm — I love you, Lord, my strength (Psalm 18).
Second Reading — You became imitators of the Lord, so that you became a model for all believers
(1 Thessalonians 1:5c-10).
Gospel — You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, and you shall love your neighbor as yourself
(Matthew 22:34-40).
SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM
Baptisms (English) are held on the second and fourth
Sunday of each month at 2:30pm. For information on the
requirements; the preparation class for the parents/god
parents, and to obtain a Registration Form please contact
the Parish Office.
SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE
Couples preparing for Marriage should contact the Parish
Office at least six months in advance to receive information
about the requirements and to commence the preparation.
SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION
Communal Reconciliations are scheduled during Advent &
Lent.
Individual celebration is regularly scheduled on Saturdays
from 4:00-5:00 PM or by appointment.
PASTORAL CARE OF THE SICK AND ELDERLY
If you know of parishioners who are ill or homebound and
would appreciate receiving Communion from our Home
Ministry Program, please contact the Parish Office.
THE RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS (RCIA)
RCIA is a process through which one gets to know our Lord
Jesus Christ, as revealed in Holy Scripture and in Holy
Tradition. This program is for those adults interested in
learning about the Catholic faith, and for those wanting to
complete the sacraments of Baptism, First Communion or
Confirmation.

Please note that due to training at the Diocese
the parish office will be closed on Thursday, October
30th.
The office will re-open on Friday, October 31st.
Sign Up for the Thanksgiving Dinner for the
Homeless
If you would like to volunteer for the Thanksgiving
Dinner for the Homeless, please note that sign ups will
begin on November 1st, after 5:30pm Mass, and will
continue after all weekend Masses (except for the 1pm
Mass) for the next three weeks.
Thank you for helping us to continue to make this a
wonderful community event!

for the Annual Thanksgiving Day Dinner for the
Homeless.
We are still in need of new combs,
personal sized toothpaste,
toothbrushes, soap, shampoo &
conditioner, and we will be collecting
until the weekend of November 16th.

TRIGESIMO DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO
EL AMOR ESTÁ EN LA ACCIÓN
¿Recibes la palabra de Dios con gozo, al igual que hicieron los
tesalonicenses? Su fe se reflejó en sus acciones. Se convirtieron
en ejemplo para otros creyentes.
La primera lectura nos dice que pongamos nuestra fe en acción.
Este pasaje es parte de una larga lista de reglas que Dios impone
a los israelitas para su observancia y para respetar su Ley. Dios
nos juzgará por cómo nosotros tratamos a nuestros semejantes.
Dios escuchará los llantos de todo aquel al que desatendemos o
maltratamos, y vendrá en su defensa.
En el Evangelio de hoy, los fariseos plantean la cuestión de la Ley
de Dios. “¿Cuál es el mandamiento más importante de la
Ley?” (Mateo 22:36). ¿Cómo es
posible que él pueda elegir de entre
todos los detallados mandamientos
que los judíos observaban? ¡Sin
duda que ofendería a alguien con su
respuesta! Sin embargo, Jesús fue
derecho al grano. El amor es el más
grande de todos los mandamientos,
el amor de Dios y el amor del
prójimo. Todo lo demás se basa en
esto.
LECTURAS DE HOY
Primera lectura — Dios escucha el llanto de los oprimidos (Éxodo
22:20-26).
Salmo — Te amo, oh Señor, mi fuerza (Salmo 18 [17]).
Segunda lectura — El pueblo de Dios es conocido por su
conversión y amor de Dios (1 Tesalonicenses 1:5c-10).

Gracias para los Desamparados que se celebrará el dia 22 de
