UPCOMING EVENTS
Thursday 30th October
8.30am Years 6 & 7 Celebration of Learning
Friday 31st October
From the Principal
Last night our School Board met to consider the budget for 2015.
With all this approved it means the school fees are set as well. We
have worked to keep increases as low as possible and while the full
detail will be laid out in the newsletter next week, I can tell you that
the fee for one child has increased by $20 per term, two children by
$30 per term and a family of three or more, by $27 per term. This
minimal increase is dependent on prompt payment by families to
maintain our service to children.

Numbers for 2015: Again a plea for you to let us know if your children
will not be returning to Guardian Angels next year. The pressure for
places in our school is increasing and some classes are already closed
with waiting lists. We appreciate your support in this area.

Consistency of Teacher Judgement
Monday 20 October, as you know, was a Pupil Free Day.
While your beautiful children were (hopefully) sleeping in
and relaxing, the staff of Guardian Angels joined with
many teachers from neighbouring schools to take part in a
process called Consistency of Teacher Judgement. Over the
course of the day, our teachers joined with their
colleagues and they engaged in many rigorous and highly
professional discussions about how we address aspects of
the Australian Curriculum and the Religious Education
Curriculum requirements. We discussed the Achievement
Standards – those ‘snapshot statements’ against which
we, as teaching professionals, are able to make accurate
judgements about the progress of each student. And we
explored the wide variety of methods and strategies
utilised by teachers to assess and ascertain progress and
development in certain Learning Areas. I’d like to take this
opportunity to acknowledge the exemplary standards
demonstrated by your child’s teacher/s as they
represented both Guardian Angels, and the
implementation of the curriculum, thoroughly and
professionally.
Booklists for 2015
Last Friday 10 October, those students who are returning
to Guardian Angels in 2015 should have brought home
their Booklist for next year. The teachers have been
expertly working for some time now to ensure that your
child/ren will have everything they need for a successful
year. As you can imagine, this is an extraordinarily busy
time for everybody associated with a school – especially
yourselves – and most definitely for the book suppliers.
Guardian Angels’ book suppliers for our 2015 booklists is
SOS (School and Office Supplies). We have worked closely
with representatives from SOS to ensure this process runs
as smoothly as possible for everyone. Please note that the
ORDERING DEADLINE for Years 1-6 students, if ordering
through our book suppliers, is MONDAY 10 NOVEMBER.
The book supply process is not a fundraising enterprise at
Guardian Angels and so SOS work so carefully to ensure
that costs are kept as low as possible. If you have not yet
located or perhaps mislaid your booklist/s extra copies are
available through the Guardian Angels’ Parent Portal.
God’s blessings for a happy week …

This fortnight each class will be
looking at the virtue of Mercy.
Mercy is a blessing. We are
practising mercy when we:

Know what people deserve
and choose to give them more than
they have earned
Give people another chance when they make a
mistake
Overlook hurtful things people do
Put myself in other people’s shoes
Let our heart be touched by people who are
troubled and do something to help
World Children’s Mission Day Mass
On Wednesday eighteen Year 6
and Year 7 children (Waylon,
Georgia, Ruby, Saskia, Matt, Jamie,
Shelby, Andres, Ella, Monica, Leah,
Cleo, Nelson, Grace, Laeticia,
Sarah, Laura and Madeline)
attended Catholic Mission’s World
Children’s Day Mass at St Stephen’s Cathedral in the City.
This gave the students the opportunity to join with other
senior students from various primary schools and high
schools from throughout Brisbane, to show their
prayerful support for Catholic Mission globally. The
children were great ambassadors for our school,
congratulations to you all.
Volunteer Thankyou Liturgy and Morning Tea
On Monday 24th November at 9am in
the Church we will gather to give
thanks to God for the many gifts that
have been bestowed on us during
2014, followed by Morning Tea in the
Hall.
We will acknowledge with
gratitude all the time and effort that so many parents and
caregivers have given to our school community through:
reading support, classroom support, sporting team
assistance, attendance on school excursions, tuckshop etc.
etc. May you be richly rewarded for your generosity.
Please see the invitation below.
