Invocation – Pastor
P. We worship in the name of God the Father
C: Who created us, gives us life and breath, and
provides for us.
P: We worship in the name of God the Son
C: Who has redeemed us and offers forgiveness to
us
P: We worship in the name of God, the Holy Spirit
C: Who created faith within us, who sustains our
faith, and who enables and empowers us to
practice our faith in our daily lives.
Sunday School Children Sing
Confession and forgiveness
P: Our God calls to us, inviting us to confess our sins,
Repent of them and to turn to Him for forgiveness.
(Silence for personal confession)
P: Merciful Lord
C: We confess our sins to you this day; those that
we do not know as well as those we know all too
well. We humbly ask for your mercy, trusting only
in the merits of Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Savior.
Forgive us our sins, and let Your Holy Spirit lead us
into paths of righteousness and faithfulness.
P: Jesus came into the world and obeyed God’s law perfectly for you. He died on the cross for
the guilt of your sins. As a called and ordained servant of the Word, I forgive all your sins in the
name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen, let it be so.

Song: The Name of the Lord
O the name of the Lord, it’s like a strong tower;
The righteous shall run unto it and be glad.
O the name of the Lord, it’s like a strong tower;
The righteous shall run unto it. (repeat)
Then they’ll go forth in victory triumphing over the enemy.
Yes, they’ll go forth to kick in the gates of hell,
For they are the army of God.
For they are the army of God.
Sermon Text reading
Psalms 46:1 1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 2 Therefore we will
not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, 3
though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling. 4 There is a river
whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy habitation of the Most High. 5 God is in the
midst of her; she shall not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns. 6 The nations
rage, the kingdoms totter; he utters his voice, the earth melts. 7 The Lord of hosts is with us; the
God of Jacob is our fortress. 8 Come, behold the works of the Lord, how he has brought
desolations on the earth. 9 He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; he breaks the bow and
shatters the spear; he burns the chariots with fire. 10 “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be
exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” 11 The Lord of hosts is with us; the
God of Jacob is our fortress.
R: This is the Word of the Lord
C: Thanks be to God
Song response: Alleluia
Chorus
Allelu! Allelu! Everybody sing allelu, for the Lord is risen
It is true; everybody sing allelu.
God said He would sent His Son, Allelu! Allelu!
And salvation would be won, Alleluia!
Chorus
On the hard wood of the cross, Allelu! Allelu! He
Suffered and He died for us, Alleluia!
Chorus
Now we too can live anew, Allelu! Allelu! Live in Him
3
need all we do, Alleluia!
Chorus
Gospel:
Matthew 11:12 - 19 12From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has
suffered violence, and the violent take it by force. 13For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied
until John, 14and if you are willing to accept it, he is Elijah who is to come. 15He who has ears to
hear, let him hear. 16“But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the
marketplaces and calling to their playmates, 17 “ ‘We played the flute for you, and you did not
dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.’ 18For John came neither eating nor drinking,
and they say, ‘He has a demon.’ 19The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say,
‘Look at him! A glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet wisdom is
justified by her deeds.”
P: This is the Gospel of the Lord
C: Thanks be to God
Children’s message: “Faith Alone.”
Hymn: #657 A Mighty Fortress Is Our God
Pastors Message: “God Is Our Refuge and Strength”
We confess our faith-Apostles’ Creed-sung
We believe in God the Father, Maker of the universe
And in Christ His Son, our Savior, come to us by virgin
birth;
We believe He died to save us, bore our sins, was
crucified,
Then, from death, He rose victorious, Ascended to the
Father’s side.
We believe He sends His Spirit on His church with gifts of
power,
God, His Word of truth affirming, sends us to the nations
now:
He will come again in glory, judge the living and the
dead,
Every knee shall bow before Him, then must every
tongue confess,
Jesus, Lord of all.

Call answer me.
O Lord hear my prayer, O Lord, hear my prayer, come

Lord’s Prayer-sung (tune L.S.B. #733)
Our Father, Lord on Heav’n’s high throne,
Most holy be Your Name. Your kingdom come,
Your will be done in Heav’n on earth the same.
Give us this day the food we need; Forgiven may we be;
Into temptation do not lead; From evil set us free.
All kingdom, might, and majesty be Yours while ages
Run
And even to eternity, Amen. So be it done!

Closing Song:
Shine, Jesus Shine
“SHINE, JESUS SHINE”
Lord, the light of Your love is shining,
In the midst of the darkness shining;
Jesus, Light of the world, shine upon us,
Set us free by the truth You now bring us;
Shine on me, Shine on me.
(chorus) Shine, Jesus shine, fill this land with the Father’s glory.
Blaze, Spirit blaze, set our hearts on fire.
Flow, river flow, flood the nations with grace and mercy.
Send forth Your word, Lord, and let there be light.
Lord, I come to Your awesome presence,
From the shadows into Your radiance;
By the blood I may enter Your brightness;
Search me, try me, consume all my darkness;
Shine on me, Shine on me. (chorus)

SUNDAY SCHOOL TODAY
In Sunday School today, our children will study “God’s Covenant with Abram.”
God keeps His promises, as He did in giving His own Son, Jesus, to be our Savior.
Consider discussing, “What importand promises do we make as a family? How can we
remind ourselves of the promises God keeps for us?”
7
Stewardship Corner
“Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops” (Proverbs 3:9). Do we
carry out God's Commands as He gives them, or do we modify His Word to suit our preferences or
our time? If we truly love God and are grateful for all His blessings, we will not hesitate to do what
He asks of us. By waiting, we show that something or someone is in competition with Him. Isn't
that someone usually ourselves?
COFFEE-COOKIES-FELLOWSHIP
I do not have anyone to serve on the following Sundays, Dec 28 th.
If you would be willing to serve please call LaVonne Rausch @ 632-3712.
PIPE ORGAN REPAIR
We have received $9,784 towards our goal of $20,000 make repairs to the pipe organ. We will
not proceed with the work until we have the funds to undertake the repairs. It is difficult to get
on the schedule for major work. We are on the schedule for January, however if by the end of
October, the balance of the funds are not received, we will notify the organ repair company and
lose our opportunity for repairing the instrument this year. A brief summary of the needed work
includes reconfiguring the layout to enable access for tuning and maintenance, repair chests,
regulate wind pressures, install properly sized blower motor, re-leather wind regulator and all
tuning stoppers, reconfigure winding of the organ, and completely clean and tune.
