adolescents with ADHD and their parents reduce conflict and coercion. Robin, A. (2014). Family
Therapy for Adolescents with ADHD. Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Clinics of North America:
ADHD Non- Pharmacologic Intervention. S. Faraone and K. Antshel (eds.). 23 (4), pp. 747-756.

Drs. Alana Conti (PI) and Shane Perrine (co-investigator), have been awarded a 4-year VA Merit
Review Award. Their preclinical studies are highly relevant to the mission for VA patient care and
rehabilitation in that military personnel are at increased risk for traumatic brain injury (TBI) and
posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). PTSD not only worsens TBI symptoms, such as cognitive
impairments, but it also causes TBI symptoms to persist for a longer duration and confounds
diagnosis and treatment. One mechanism implicated in the cognitive impairments found in
comorbid PTSD-TBI is cortical hypoactivation, a condition associated following either TBI or PTSD
alone. Their project, “Longitudinal Assessment of Cortical Hypoactivity in a Model of Comorbid TBIPTSD,” aims to address the long-term effects of PTSD-TBI on cognitive behaviors resulting from
molecular, structural and functional cortical impairments and to investigate long-lasting
rehabilitation neurotherapeutic interventions that target the glutamatergic system.
