PARISH RELIGIOUS EDUCATION (PRE)
Classes for 1st through 8th grade students meet on Wednesday
evenings at 6:15 pm during the school year.
HIGH SCHOOL LIFE TEEN PROGRAM
Meets on the first & second Sunday evening of the month at
5:30 pm in the gym during the school year. Other meeting
times will be given at that time.
HISPANIC MINISTRY
Mass is celebrated at 12:00 pm every Sunday in Spanish.
PRESCHOOL
Our preschool program is conducted from 8:15 am until 11:15
am weekdays during the school year. Children must be four
years old on or before August 15th of the year they would like
to attend. For more information or a tour of our school, please
call 642-4681.

Articles for the bulletin must be submitted to the church office
(by e-mail preferred or in writing , No phone calls please)

Arranged by appointment. At least one godparent must be a
practicing Catholic; another practicing Christian may serve as
a Christian witness. Parents must be registered with the parish.
Matrimony
Arranged with the Pastor at least six months in advance. Marriage preparation is conducted by Rev. Mr. & Mrs. Michael
Gore.
Anointing & Pastoral Care of the Sick
Please call the office if someone is hospitalized or ill at home
and/or would like to receive Holy Communion, Confession,
and/or Anointing of the Sick. (NOTE: the hospital does not
notify the church about admissions.)

DearBrothersandSisters…
Sometimes people ask me what to do in situations when they get angry, impatient with their spouse,
children, family members, friends, co-workers or even strangers. I always say to them that if it is not
necessary to respond right there on the spot – you should really have time to calm down, and try to
analyze the situation a little bit and ask yourself – what was the thing at that time that got on your
nerves??? After that, you may ask yourself if there are maybe any other sources, regarding your life or
the life of the other person, which would be able to trigger these kind of feelings… Finally, see how
you can face this situation in a loving way … as our Lord, Jesus Christ teaches us every day by showing
to us the sign of His LOVE, meaning, His CROSS!!! And pray… below I just listed a couple of prayers for
patience!!! You may even cut them out from the bulletin and keep them in your wallet to be able to
reach for it in those dif icult moments…. (sincerely, Fr. Kris)
PRAYERS FOR PATIENCE
The first prayer references “the enemy,” Satan, the once beautiful angel known as Lucifer, who fell from heaven “like lightning” (Luke 10:18) after rebelling against God.
Christ's suffering, in his life among us and on the cross, helped to defeat not only sin
and death, but also the devil's pride.
O God, who didst crush the pride of the enemy by the long-suffering of Thine
Only-begotten Son: grant, we beseech Thee, that we may worthily recall
those things which in His tender love He bore for us; and thus following His
example may patiently endure all our adversities.
The second of these prayers for patience, while a bit longer, brings up many things we
need to take into account before losing our cool in trying situations:
Teach me, my Lord, to be sweet and gentle in all the events of my life, in disappointments, in the thoughtlessness of others, in the insincerity of those I
trusted, in the unfaithfulness of those on whom I relied. Let me forget myself
so that I may enjoy the happiness of others. Let me always hide my little
pains and heartaches so that I may be the only one to suffer from them.
Teach me to profit by the suffering that comes across my path. Let me so use
it that it may mellow me, not harden or embitter me; that it may make me
patient, not irritable; that it may make me broad in my forgiveness, not narrow or proud or overbearing. May no one be less good for having come within
my influence; no one less pure, less true, less kind, less noble, for having
been a fellow traveler with me on our journey towards eternal life. As I meet
with one cross after another, let me whisper a word of love to You. May my
life be lived in the supernatural, full of power for good, and strong in its purpose of sanctity. Amen.
And, finally, along these lines, we have a short prayer that can be easily memorized
and can come in handy when you’re having car trouble, problems with your family, or
difficulties at work:
My dearest Jesus, teach me to be patient, when all day long my heart is troubled by little, but troublesome crosses.
Patience is necessary in so many situations, such as while waiting on a very slow line
at the Post Office; in dealing with relatives and co-workers; or in trying to find work in
this troubled economy. It is also an important antidote to anger. Our faith recognizes
patience as the corresponding virtue to fight that vice, which is one of the seven
deadly sins.

Dear parishioners,
Like last year, if you return the All Souls Day envelope
(please don’t do it at the last minute…!!! ) we will put
the name/s in the Book of Memory so we will divide the
names for the whole month of November and in this way
we will pray for all of them by name/s at all Masses during the whole month!.
Please put those envelopes with the regular collection or
give them to Judy at the office. There will be a binder at
the side entrance of the church for your convenience to
check the day (and at which Mass on that day/s we have
more than one Mass) we will pray for our loved ones.

Calling all youth musicians! We are forming a youth
orchestra and a sacred music chorale at Holy Cross.
The orchestra will play and the chorale will sing at the 5
p.m. Christmas Eve Mass as well as at Easter. Both the
orchestra and chorale will be under the direction of our
parish organist, Mr. William McDonald. Rehearsals will
begin the first week of November and continue through
Christmas. Easter rehearsals will be announced later.
Any youth of Holy Cross who play an orchestra instrument or would like to sing sacred music are invited to
join. Please call Mrs. Kathryn McDonald (731-2354404) or send an e-mail ([email protected])
by November 2 to register or with questions. Once rehearsals commence, no additional players will be added. All participants must be able and willing to attend
every rehearsal.

Power of Prayer?
A true story: the chairman of the Finance Committee declared the meeting could not be convened for lack of quorum.
He asked one of the ministers present to lead in a prayer. Tired of the lengthy meeting, the minister intended to help
the cause when he prayed: "Lord, we thank you for your Word that says, 'where two or three are gathered in your
name, they have a quorum. . ." The meeting was promptly convened with a full quorum!
Temptations
A pastor known for his hell-fire-and-brimstone sermons was preaching one Sunday morning. During the course of his
sermon, he looked up to the choir loft and saw a woman standing so close to the rail that he could see up her skirt. In
shock, he announces to the congregation, "There is a woman in the choir loft standing so close to the railing that you
can see up her skirt. Anyone who turns around and looks will go blind." An old man in the front pew covers one eye,
turns around and says, "I'll risk one eye!" R.K.

Dear Eminences, Bea tudes, Excellencies, Brothers and Sisters,
With a heart full of apprecia on and gra tude I want to thank, along with you, the Lord who has accompanied and
guided us in the past days, with the light of the Holy Spirit.
From the heart I thank Cardinal Lorenzo Baldisseri, Secretary General of the Synod, Bishop Fabio Fabene, undersecretary, and with them I thank the Relators, Cardinal Peter Erdo, who has worked so much in these days of family
mourning, and the Special Secretary Bishop Bruno Forte, the three President delegates, the transcribers, the consultors, the translators and the unknown workers, all those who have worked with true fidelity and total dedicaon behind the scenes and without rest. Thank you so much from the heart.
I thank all of you as well, dear Synod fathers, Fraternal Delegates, Auditors, and Assessors, for your ac ve and
frui ul par cipa on. I will keep you in prayer asking the Lord to reward you with the abundance of His gi s of
grace!
I can happily say that – with a spirit of collegiality and of synodality – we have truly lived the experience of
“Synod,” a path of solidarity, a “journey together.”
And it has been “a journey” – and like every journey there were moments of running fast, as if wan ng to conquer
me and reach the goal as soon as possible; other moments of fa gue, as if wan ng to say “enough”; other moments of enthusiasm and ardour. There were moments of profound consola on listening to the tes mony of true
pastors, who wisely carry in their hearts the joys and the tears of their faithful people. Moments of consola on and
grace and comfort hearing the tes monies of the families who have par cipated in the Synod and have shared with
us the beauty and the joy of their married life. A journey where the stronger feel compelled to help the less strong,
where the more experienced are led to serve others, even through confronta ons. And since it is a journey of human beings, with the consola ons there were also moments of desola on, of tensions and tempta ons, of which a
few possibili es could be men oned:
- One, a tempta on to hos le inflexibility, that is, wan ng to close oneself within the wri en word, (the le er) and
not allowing oneself to be surprised by God, by the God of surprises, (the spirit); within the law, within the cer tude of what we know and not of what we s ll need to learn and to achieve. From the me of Christ, it is the tempta on of the zealous, of the scrupulous, of the solicitous and of the so-called – today – “tradi onalists” and also of
the intellectuals.
- The tempta on to a destruc ve tendency to goodness [it. buonismo], that in the name of a decep ve mercy
binds the wounds without first curing them and trea ng them; that treats the symptoms and not the causes and
the roots. It is the tempta on of the “do-gooders,” of the fearful, and also of the so-called “progressives and liberals.”
