WELCOME
Welcome to the East Tennessee Regional Student Art Exhibition, presented by the Tennessee Art Education
Association and the Knoxville Museum of Art. In its ninth year, the ETRSAE showcases the strength and diversity of
art education programs in East Tennessee, celebrates talented middle and high school students, and supports arts
education. This annual exhibition provides the opportunity for students to participate in a juried exhibition and to
have their artworks displayed in a professional art museum environment. We are so delighted by the quality of the
artworks, the dedication of the teachers, and the commitment of the museum staff to establish a museum/school
tradition for our community.
Public, private, and home schools grades 6–12 in 32 East Tennessee counties were invited to submit up to 15
artworks per teacher. Categories for the competition include ceramic, drawing, digital imagery/video production,
mixed media, painting, computer graphics, sculpture, photography, and printmaking. Of the 927 artworks entered
in the competition, 325 were accepted by the jurors for inclusion in the exhibition. Each participating school is
represented by at least one work of art.
The Best-in-Show winner will receive a Purchase Award of $500, and the artwork will become a permanent part of
the collection of Mr. James Dodson, on loan to the Knoxville Museum of Art’s Education Collection. The Best in
Middle School winner will receive $250. The teachers of the winning student will receive $100. Additional awards are
made possible by the generous support of the KMA’s ArtREACH Fund. Each student in the exhibition will receive
a certificate of participation and the “Best” in each of the 10 categories the winners will receive a museum family
membership.
Scholarships have been made available to eligible juniors and seniors by: Cumberland University, Lebanon;
Maryville College School of Art; Memphis College of Art, Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore; The New
Hampshire Institute of Art, Manchester; Savannah College of Art and Design, Savannah; Watkins College of Art,
Design & Film, Nashville; Arcadia University, Glenside, Pennsylvania; and the University of Wisconsin–Stout.
The student art exhibition is made possible the generosity of our presenting sponsor Regal Entertainment Group,
and additional sponsorship from Pharma Packing Solutions, Emerson Process Management, and Home Federal
Bank. Special thanks to All Occasion Catering, Aside Project Studio, City of Knoxville, Coleman’s Printing &
Awards, LLC, Fast Frame, James Dodson, Jerry’s Artarama, Knox County, Knoxville Museum of Art, Tennessee Arts
Commission, and the Tennessee Art Education Association.
