Greater Atlanta Day Alumnae Chapter of
Kappa Delta Sorority
Summer-Fall 2015 Newsletter
Greater Atlanta Day has not missed a beat since the spring. We
visited the Delta Air Museum in May. Nine members attended the
National Biennial KD Convention in Orlando in June. GADAC won
the top awards for AC Chapter Excellence, Girl Scout Support, and
our Joint Shamrock with Eta Omega. We also received 7 Honorable Mention awards. Congratulations to everyone for your hard
work. We continue to shine as one of the top Alumnae Chapters in
the country.
The State Day Luncheon in July was a huge success. Executive
Director of Kappa Delta Pamela Nix, a Sigma Phi from Georgia,
was our speaker. Ninety six alumnae and collegians enjoyed a
wonderful lunch at Ansley Golf Club. Thank you to Sally Gibson
and Sally Peebles for planning and orchestrating this great event.
Also thank you to Fio Crockford for sponsoring us at Ansley.
Congratulations to Eta Mu at Georgia College and State University
and Eta Omega at Kennesaw State University for their successful
recruitments.
We kicked off our year wearing our school colors at our September
meeting. Sisters and their guests met at the W Hotel September
27th to celebrate National Friendship Month. We will attend a private tour of the Governor’s Mansion in October. Carolyn Curry author of “Suffer and Grow Strong” will speak at our November meeting. We will round out the year with our annual
Christmas Open House where we bring teddy
bears for needy children.
I look forward to another wonderful year of sisterhood, community assistance, collegiate support,
fun, and fellowship with my GADAC sisters.

GADAC SUMMER EVENTS
2015 GEORGIA STATE DAY LUNCHEON
Hosted by Greater Atlanta Day Alumnae Chapter, Saturday July 25, 2015
The luncheon was held at the Ansley Golf Club. We thank Fio Crockford for making that possible. Our theme this year
was “Finding Great Opportunities.” Displays showed opportunities found by GADAC: Wellspring Living, Interfaith
House and Girl Scouts. Founding member Jan Lammert told what KD means to her. An inspiring speech and slide
show presentation were given by Pamela Nix, Executive Director of Kappa Delta. White roses were presented to five
White Rose recipients, four to Emerald. Roses were presented also to the members present who founded the Greater
Atlanta Day Alumnae Chapter in 1968. Items from KD Boutique were sold. The total number of registered attendees
was ninety six. Thirteen of these were collegians. We are truly grateful to all the members of GADAC who volunteered
and helped make the 2015 State Day Luncheon a success. Sally Gibson and Sallie Peebles, Co-chairs

PHILANTHROPY REPORT
Fall is here and that means cleaning out our closets! What a great opportunity to
donate your clothes to one of Wellspring’s “Treasures” Stores. They are also in
need of books, home décor and furniture. When you donate, then you can shop and
find that exact outfit you need at a very reasonable
price! They are always looking for volunteers to work in donations or in the
store. It is really a “fun” job with many benefits; smiles, hugs and many thank
you! Another opportunity to show we care is to spend an evening at one of the
residential homes in Duluth by preparing a meal for or with the girls, decorating
the house for the holidays or making crafts. If you are interested in any of these
opportunities, please contact Pat Tooke at 678-344-2424 for more information.
The “Treasure Stores” are located at:
Toco Hills, near the Clock Tower and Kroger
404-875-9797
2785 Buford Highway between Pleasant Hill & Sugarloaf Parkway
678-578-6232
AND Watch for new store opening in Marietta!
INTERFAITH OUTREACH HOME
The IOH residents were especially
appreciative of the generous
amounts of paper goods and after
school snacks GADAC members
donated in September. Since we do
not meet during the summer, pantry
supplies run low by the end of August, and once school starts, the
children come home ready to refuel. Some have lunch as early as
10:30 am. IOH also thanks GADAC for helping fund the successful September 11 tennis tournament
held at Blackburn Tennis Center.
The weather cooperated, the players
had fun, and the event netted
almost $4000.
As an IOH Board member, I say thank you also.

GIRL SCOUTS
Girl Scout cookie orders for the troops will be
taken at the GADAC November meeting. Last
year over $400.00 worth of cookies were sent
to the troops. Personal orders will be taken in
January. Checks for both orders will be received at the January meeting. Thanks in advance for your orders .

“Go Confidently” Handbag Collection is a handbag drive to benefit
women and teen girls in need. This is a project of the KD Confidence
Coalition. GADAC will collect gently used handbags at the October,
November meetings and the Christmas Open House. Please write an
encouraging note noting website (www.confidencecoalition.org) to be
included in the bags.

COLLEGIATE REPORTS
ETA OMEGA CHAPTER, K
KENNESAW
ENNESAW STATE UNIVERSITY, KENNESAW GA
News from Eta Omega at Kennesaw State University continues to be exciting. At the Kappa
Delta National Convention at Disney World Eta Omega won their first National Award, the
Patricia Beecham Nieman Joint Shamrock Award for the most outstanding event in the nation.
The members of Eta Omega were thrilled with winning this award with Greater Atlanta.
In addition, their Chapter Advisory Board (CAB) won the Chapter Advisory Board Award of
Excellence. Greater Atlanta Day members on that board included Emilie Friese, Helen Alston,
Lyn Routenberg, Marie Dopson, Tara Osborne, and new GADAC members Kimberly Shires
(chair) and Courtney Barbito. Sheila Vahey has recently joined the CAB as well.. Many
thanks to these sisters who put in many hours and efforts serving on this board.
Recently, Eta Omega has “graduated out” of the division that exists for new
chapters which provides more oversight and is now functioning well in a regular division. This is a big accomplishment on the national level.
A “Mock Recruitment Event” was held August 30th. Thanks to Joy Hugick,
Sally Gibson, Helen Alston, Shelia Vahey, Karen Blackwood and Dot Mears
for participating. The alums played the role of Potential New Recruits and the
girls practiced their communication skills for the upcoming recruitment. It was
a blast! Several of us were nervous that we did not score high enough to be
asked back to the next event. I highly recommend that more of you consider
attending this next year.
On Bid Day Greater Atlanta had a great decorated
sheet cake and petit fours for the chapter. Lyn Routenberg, Joy Hugick, Pat Tooke and Dot Mears served the cake to the many in attendance. This was a
fun event!
Eta Omega experienced a really
great recruitment this Fall. Quota
was 85 and because the panhellenic at KSU believes potential new members deserve a home and because Kappa Delta
was so popular Eta Omega was allowed to go over quota
and now has 91 new members. The data collected about
this recruitment indicates that Eta Omega is in the top tier of
Kappa Delta chapters in the nation for recruiting. They
have proven that they can now run with the “Big Girls” .
In September Greater Atlanta Day learned that Eta Omega
needed pillows and pillow cases for use during initiation
and Greater Atlanta ordered these ritual supplies for the chapter. Thanks to the many members who wrote notes about their
experiences in Kappa Delta to the new members of Eta Omega. These were included in an email booklet that will be sent
to each new sister. Sisters Stefanie Winborne and Lyn Routenberg will speak to the new members about what Kappa Delta
has meant to them.
Upcoming Events:
Initiation of New Members - October 20, 7 pm. Northstar Church, Kennesaw 30144.
All are invited to the Reception and Initiation,
Initiation of Alumnae Initiate - Sheryl McCollum, October 21, 7 pm, KSU
Senior Transition Service - April 24, 2016 with Greater Atlanta and other alumnae
Chapters.

ETA MU CHAPTER, GEOR
GEORGIA
GIA COLLEGE AND STAT
STATE
E UNIVERSITY,
MILLEDGEVILLE GA
The finished product one year down the road! Fully furnished house including all four bedrooms. KD sign out front! It was a good time to turn it over to new House Corporation. Marie
Dopson of GADAC is House Corporation Treasurer.
Eta Mu was extremely blessed this semester with a visit from LDC, Brianna Blackshire who came
to help with Spirit week and Recruitment. . Recruitment began with a beautiful start of opening the
house for two days of Round One. A recruitment video was shown and a tour of the entire house
was conducted. Lovely conversations were held with 512 potential new members (PNM). This year
the chapter decided to revise their ceremony, with
help from Brianna. They added 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 Bible verse, where randomly
through out the preference room sisters would say a line and ended it together by
saying "love never fails". From a survey of the new members, that was the moment where almost every single PNM felt the love that we KDs share. On Bid
Day the theme was "Beach Town" and it was celebrated at an outside venue in
Milledgeville. Eta Mu could not be any happier with their 79 new members! This
week is Big Little Reveal and the future little ones are running around so excited
for tomorrow nights reveal.
