NOVEMBER - ALL SOULS MONTH
This being All Souls’ month, it is a very special
time to remember and celebrate our departed
brothers and sisters by offering Mass and
praying together for them at home and church.
Your Mass intention offerings can be placed in
the offering plate placed in front of the ambo or
by placing your envelopes in the weekend
collections with the names of the deceased.
All Souls Day Significance
The commemoration of all the faithful departed
is celebrated by the Church on 2 November.
The theological basis for the feast is the doctrine
that the souls which, on departing from the body,
are not perfectly cleansed from venial sins, or
have not fully atoned for past transgressions and
that the faithful on earth can help them by
prayers, almsgivings and especially by the
sacrifice of the Mass. The date follows All Saints
Day with the idea that remembering the saints in
heaven should be followed by remembering the
souls awaiting release from purgatory. It is a
Roman Catholic day of remembrance for friends
and loved ones who have left for their heavenly
abode. Catholics believe that those who die are
not immediately eligible for the Beatific vision
(the reality and goodness of God and heaven)
and need to be purged of their sins. The Catholic
Church calls this purification of the elect
"purgatory."
On All Soul's Day the friends and relatives of the
departed souls pray and offer requiem masses.
While the Feast of All Saints is a day to
remember the glories of Heaven and those there,
the Feast of All Souls reminds us of our
obligations to live lives on the holy path and that
there will be purification of the souls of those
destined
for
Heaven.
ALL SOULS CANDLE LIGHT MASS
All soul’s Candle Light Mass at St. Andrew’s
will be celebrated at 7 pm. on Thursday,
November 13.
Today, especially we will
remember and celebrate and light candles for the
members of our families and friends departed in
the last year.
