Dear Dolvin Families:
We are so excited to let you know about the great progress our School Governance Council (SGC) is making. As
you may already know, the SGC’s Strategic Plan was recently approved by the Fulton County Board of
Education. The SGC has now written our Request for Flexibility (RFF), and will hold an open meeting on
Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at Dolvin Elementary. We will use this open meeting to receive
community feedback regarding the RFF.
Please click HERE to view the RFF. To register for the meeting, click: SIGN UP. You may also submit written
feedback by using the SGC comment box located in the Dolvin Elementary front office.
Please contact Kim Hochman if you have any questions at: [email protected].
Warmly,
Laura Zoll
We need your help!!
We are tracking our student tardies each month. Our number of tardies for last month was very alarming.
Out of 872 students, we had 333 tardies from October 1 st through October 30th.
Please help your child by getting them to school on time. That means students should be in their seats ready for learning at 7:40 am…
not just inside the front door of the school! A student who is tardy is starting the academic day at a disadvantage and causing an
interruption in the learning day for other students. We have noticed a large number of tardy students this year, and the cold weather
hasn’t even hit yet. We have to report to the state the number and frequency of our tardy arrivals. Our school social worker will be
following up with parents whose children have a pattern of tardiness. Students with 15 or more unexcused tardies will be referred to
the Attendance Intervention Module (AIM) program. Remember students on the bus are never counted as tardy, even when there
may be a traffic challenge along the route. Our buses are usually here and unloaded by 7:30 a.m. giving students ample time to get
down the hallways and into class. Thank you for your cooperation.
If you have questions regarding your child's attendance, please contact Sally Frey, Professional Assistant, or Rachel Kitchens-Cole,
School Social Worker, (404) 682-8954.

Kids Care Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive
Help Kids Care support North Fulton Community Charities once again in their Thanksgiving Food
Program! Over 900 families will come to NFCC before Thanksgiving, and wait in the early morning
hours to receive two bags of groceries and a turkey. This aid will keep their family from going
hungry on the holiday.
Please help make this happen by donating non-perishable Thanksgiving food items now until
November 18th. Please drop any donations off in the Kids Care bin in the Dolvin lobby or send
your items in with your child. Crates are conveniently located inside the classrooms for food collection. Please label your bag “NFCC.” Thanks for giving!

Artsonia is the world’s largest online art gallery for students and we are excited to join this
year. Dolvin’s art teachers are in the process of uploading artwork for all of our students
from the first nine weeks. Students are selecting their favorite work to showcase and title,
and the older students are also doing their own uploading as well as publishing artist
statements. You can view the art online, share with family members, leave a compliment,
and also order products with your child’s art at any time of the year! Our first set of artworks
should be fully uploaded by mid-November for your holiday shopping, and then more art
will be available second semester. Artsonia will contact Dolvin parents through email to
create an account, so please look for that email and sign on soon!

Georgia Milestone and Common Core
Looking for a great way to help your child prepare for the common core and the new Georgia Milestone
Assessment? Georgia Common Core Workbooks are a great option! These grade-specific books provide
comprehensive instruction and ample practice on all the key skills and concepts that are included in the math
and reading curriculum at each grade level (Georgia Common Core Standards). These books are available
for grades 1 through 5. Order forms were sent home in VIP folders and are also on the Dolvin website at
http://school.fultonschools.org/es/dolvin/Documents/Common%20Core%20Book%20Order%20Form.pdf . All orders are due
back no later than Monday, November 17, 2014.

Redistricting Meetings Set for New Elementary Schools, Middle School Additions
Three community meetings are set for October 8, November 5, and December 10, to address the redistricting process for two new schools in Roswell as well as classroom
additions at three North Fulton middle schools.
Each time a redistricting effort is under way, the school system holds three rounds of meetings to gather information needed to draft a redistricting proposal that best meets the
community’s needs. Unlike other school systems, Fulton uses a process that encourages public discussion before developing a proposal. This allows the community to have
maximum input in how the proposed attendance lines are created.
Meetings are planned for:
Round One – October 8, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Centennial High School
Round Two – November 5, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Alpharetta High School
Round Three – December 10, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Centennial High School
To maximize input, parents and community members also can participate online through the redistricting website (http://www.fultonschools.org/en/divisions/ops/plan/Pages/
Redistricting.aspx) once it goes live on October 8.
One of the schools (“Highway 9 Elementary School”) is already under construction at the intersection of Highway 9 and Thomas Drive in Roswell. Scheduled to open in
August of 2015, it will temporarily serve as Esther Jackson Elementary School for one year so that school can be torn down and rebuilt on its site. Once the new Esther
Jackson opens in August 2016, the Highway 9 school will re-open with a new identity (official name TBD) to the students in its newly developed attendance zone.
Classroom additions being built at three middle schools (Autrey Mill Middle School, Hopewell Middle School, and Taylor Road Middle School) also require that attendance
zones in area schools be examined so that enrollments can be balanced. High school boundaries will be reviewed at the same time, but only to address any feeder pattern
misalignments that could occur from middle school adjustments.
The Fulton County Board of Education is scheduled to vote on the new attendance zones in February of 2015. Changes in middle school attendance zones will go into effect in
August 2015 with elementary zone changes following in August 2016. The link below is the proposed redistricting alternative maps:
